good time to buy, sales because 10th gen cpu laptops are coming
Any big advantage with the 10th gen CPUs?
Single digit increases
10th gen is essentially the same architecture as 9th Gen, with a clock bump and a few optimisations. However being in a laptop, where good cooling is essential you won't see any difference due to thermals.
Yes, 10th Gen increase in heat, good for winter.
Complementary inbuilt heater!
Here's a dealbreaker for 10th Gen: they CANNOT UNDERVOLT! This instantly kills that healthy 5% performance uplift from you. Combined with the price premium and all that, no 10th Gen is a hard pass.
Undervolting and better thermal paste saved my old Dell from constant shutdowns due to heat.
@PowerPants: Well you have more reasons to avoid it then - the same uv trick won't work to save an old 10th gen cpu because it's banned by Intel.
This or something like Aftershock Vaper 15X? i7-10875H (8c/16t) and new 2060 115W (couple of reviews on this 2060 refresh, seems very decent jump from previous gen 80W/90W power limit). There's also another version with 2070 Super (full, not Max-Q, so should be able to put that 240hz screen to good use). Not many reviews for Aftershock, the few I could find seems good.
It definitely seems worth looking out for the 2060 115W, according to hardware unboxed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=971J_bPQCho
so very very tempted…..
