another eBay classic eligible items sale !
I'd rather waste my time browsing through the 20% off eligible items later this month instead

    • +1

Shouldn't expect otherwise. The good ol' days of sitewide coupons are over

      • -8

        Because of people abusing it.

        • How was it being abused?

        • +1

how did people abuse their sitewide promotions? more like eBay got rid of it to save up for their once-in-a-year eBay plus month/weekend/day promotions, i.e. $99 airpods, 99 cent deals

          • +1

@skido: People bought their own items.

            • @xsacha: my brain cannot process. how does that help them in any way? let's say you list a $1000 item. spend $900 buying your own item. and? you saved $100 but you spent $900 on an item you have?

              • +1

@skido: Probably because you don't end up paying yourself?

                • @dosada: oh right. but there are still eBay and PayPal fees? unless the discount is big enough to cover all those

              • +1

@skido: eBay covers the 20% discount, not the seller. Presumably there’s price points where you can list an item for more than you paid then sell to yourself and the 20% covers the insertion and PayPal fees.

From the example you might sell an item for $1000 that cost you $800 initially. When you repurchase it you make a purchase of $800 but eBay gives you the full $1000. You then subtract fees etc.

I doubt it was all that prolific but tbh and the coupons are single use and capped on the purchase amount. Rather I can’t see how it would ever be ever be economically viable for eBay to keep those offers up, especially site wide ones. If you have to basically give away your profits and then some to get customers to the site there's a big issue, and you can't devalue the brand in the long run by having those sales frequently otherwise people will just wait for sale times to make purchases. If there was abuse you could limit sales in certain ways to help mitigate that.

This does not work for me - I guess the items I'm after are not eligible. Relieved because I made a purchase earlier today!

  • tried the code on a car part, and it didn't work

  • +1

    Too kind Ebay, too kind…

  • +5

Tried on 2 products I am eyeing, worked on neither.

  • Does not work for me as well.

    • why'd you upvote then lol

      • +1

I voted "+" before trying the code. (:. Came back to say it wasn't working. Most likely targeted which seems to be the case

  • +2

What is this? A discount for ants?!!

    • 5% on 1k = $50. Better in my pocket than not. The question will be whether it works on the 1k+ of product that I may need to buy (which I often do).

    • This discount needs be at least 15% bigger than this.

  • Any good 400gb+ microsd cards?

  • +5

When the list of terms and conditions are longer than the list of bargains, you know you've done it wrong!

    • +1

Looks like they have decided that copying and pasting terms and conditions is easier than pricejacking everything.

  • Did you get an email? What’s the subject?

    • Came up in my ebay summary under vouchers

  • +2

I don't even pay much attention to dodgy eBay anymore.

  • +5

How is 5% off a $50 minimum spend worth advertising? Add that it's a select list of items and also seems to be a targeted deal and it all seems pretty pointless. Saving anything is good but chances are you can find what you want 5% cheaper somewhere else without all the ifs and buts.

Edit - 5% looks even more like $#!T when I've just been hit with an extra 10% on a digital code from NZ that arrived immediately via email…

  • +2

Negging the 'deal' not the OP. 5% off with a min spend is hardly a deal anywhere nowadays. Digging through lists of approved categories and then having to spend 1k to save just $50?

    • But it is, 5% off is a deal

  • +1

ebay australia are racist and discrimination. why eligible items only instead of everything? there are reason shoppers move on to Aliexpress and amazon.

    • Racist because you don't have a code to work on your item !

      • -2

i dont even care to check anymore haha

    • +1

      Ehh, that's not racism

    • +1

Agree defund the sexist eBay !

  • $2.50 saving on $50 is hardly a bargain. Especially if you have to trawl through all the items trying to find Eligible Items

    • Yes I wouldn’t do that. I’m not sure who would. I just check it against items already in my cart or on any purchases I need to make before it expires. It’s not like it 15% or 20%. It’s only 5%. I’m the OP

  • I got a $10 off code for today only (Ebay Pus member) I have something in mind

  • My bad that some people might be loaded with 4% Ebay off cards and with this 5% they might be able to find a purchase double stacked nearly 9% off .
Might make Ebay cheaper than Amazon on something :)

  • +3
