      • I have a Harmony 650. If you program it to control a Fetch, it will turn on the Xbox.

The IR codes overlap, so there is no way to avoid this (other than removing the IR functionality from the Xbox or completely turning it off, as referenced by neighbouring comments). It would be awesome if Fetch were to produce a set of alternate IR codes that didn't cause this issue (just in case anyone is listening).

    • You can download the Fetch App onto your Smartphone, then use that as a Remote Control.

  • Great!! Was looking to buy last week, great saving thanks OP

  • Still got my mighty fetch somewhere in my store room doing nothing… Hoping for a flash mod in the near future to remove optus locked in.

  • Can it be used in another room with my current Optus subscription?

    • NO. You can't mix "Retail" and "ISP" purchased boxes - this has been an issue for some time.

  • How can you tell if your fetch is 4k?

    • The Mighty is 4K, Mini is not. I don't need to tell you that you need a 4K TV as well ;)

  • NVIDIA shield is better

    • Car to expand on why it is better?

  • Got one with my Aussie BB contract but I wish it had support for Plex… DLNA support is so ugly.

  • I have a Fetch Mini through Optus, running on my Samsung KS8000 which is 4K compatible. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade to the Mighty and watch standard TV, Netflix, Stan, Amazon, Optus Sport etc… through the Mighty over the Fetch Mini or Samsung apps directly? What are the benefits?

    • +1

Picture-wise I guess there is no difference, however I've been following a forum discussion on Netflix/Samsung TVs and Dolby Atmos, so if you have an ATMOS enabled system the Samsung TV will not recognise it, but it will through the Fetch.

      • Thanks for that. I'm running a Sonos Soundbar which I don't believe has ATMOS (the Arc does though I think). So other than that, there is no real benefit apart from ability to record TV which doesn't phase me much.

      • Is this issue specific to the Samsung KS8000? Because I have a 2020 Samsung Q70T with Q90R soundbar and I can confirm that both Netflix and Prime plays Atmos via the native apps in Samsung. Disney+ on the other hand doesn't want to play Atmos.

  • Looked at their site but couldn't find anywhere where it tells you what you get out of the box (ie without any additional subs)?
It says "Free-to-Air Catch-up TV apps built in" does that mean you can watch FTA in real time or only as catch up? For FTA is it just the regular 7, 9, 10, ABC etc, or is it all the variations 7 Mate, 9 Go etc Are there any other channels in the standard pack?

Why do all these pay/streaming TV companies make it so hard to understand what you're getting for your money?

    • +1

You can watch FTA in real time, you can pause-rewind it, you can record it, and you have access to their catch-up apps (via Freeview Plus). All FTA channels are included, it's just like your in-built TV tuner except a lot more features.

You can see all channels available on their TV guide: https://fetchtv.com.au/tv/guide

  • Can anyone comment on if this unit can record free to air with subtitles?
I am still using good old Windows Media Centre because of this

    • I just checked a free to air recording of mine. It takes ~20 seconds to appear after starting playback or fast forwarding.

      • Sounds good, thank you

    • I have the fetch gen 2 box and it records free to air and subscription channels that supply subtitles.

The subtitles work about 98% of the time. I've had the odd episode record with glitches to subtitles which become unusable.

Also abc iview app on it includes subtitles.

  • I use a VTV and kodi streaming movies etc from my PC.
What is the benefits of this mighty? Can kodi be installed on it?
Also, if I want to record series, can I do it easily?
I’ve got Vodafone tv, an old Apple TV 3, wondering if there’s a big positive to this one given I mostly stream torrents

    • +1

Series recording is great, can also be done remotely on mobile app

  • Still have a free Optus fetch box no more contract so don't know what to do with it and they didn't ask for it back.

    • +1

Useless unless it is used by someone on Optus unfortunately!

      • I know, so can't even use the parts inside?

  • +1

Thanks OP, my parents one is coming up with a Hard Drive failure message lately and they were looking at replacing it.

  • Can you install apks on this?

    • +1

No, it is not an Android box.

  • Any Fetch Box experts here? I have an Optus locked Fetch Mighty as I used to be Optus Broadband customer, but I am not with Optus Internet anymore and they still let me have the box, but they deactivated it so I can’t really use it. Are there any ways at all to make it work even just like a PVR with Free to Air channels? It doesn’t even work for Free to Air channels now. Thanks

    • +1

I think not. Wouldn't let you pass the activation screen.

      • Any hacks? So frustrated with a mighty box that is not mighty at all. Don’t want to rip it out yet.

      • I have read the other thread in the link. Say if I come back to Optus Broadband, will they be able to unlock this Fetch box and let me use it? If even a slim chance that they can unlock it, do I need to get the subscription pack for it to work or I should be able to get away with Free to Air and PVR function without paying monthly for channel pack? Thanks man.

        • I don't believe so. I have one with my Cable Internet and they once cancelled my internet for some unknown reason, which also stopped the Fetch from working. Even after they reconnected the internet, I had to send the fetch box back and get another one as they couldn't do anything remotely.

          • @Agarwal: This is true. I picked up x2 unopened OPTUS Fetch Mighty Boxes (Household collection rubbish days). They were as good as door stops. Optus could not do anything even if I had an account and subscription. They just send customers a new box. Its disgusting really as two brand new units just goes into the landfill like the many many others that follow. Should be a law against it! Oh, I did removed the 1TB drives and kept the remotes……..so not all landfill.

        • The answer to the above, above questions (and below) is yes and yes but why bother, I'll explain,…..

If by luck you have an Optus Fetch box like I have which is still unlocked (the first popup screen the unlock RED section, I think Red) to get passed this section as mine is, the original owner of my Optus box has it still registered under his Optus account,.. why my box is unlocked
(sellers on eBay or owners of these Optus Fetch boxes state this,. trying to sell there Optus Fetch boxes,.. so buyers beware read on),.. note: retail versions don't have this unlock section screen

But second screen (activation screen exactly as the retail version activation screen) you need an activation code which retail Fetch supplies to you for once off $1 activation fee easily online, this retail activation code can not be used on an ISP Fetch box version (the ISP has to provide this activation code to you) trust me I tried many times and even cloning a retail 1TB hard drive to put into an Optus Fetch box hoping I can bypass the ISP lock features, the locking screens/features are in the firmware chip so impossible to bypass, can't bypass activation screen you won't be able to use any features of the Optus Fetch box

Yes I've spoken to Optus agent, funny the Optus agent was willing to unlock an Optus Fetch box (first unlock screen), mine didn't need this

Yes the Optus agent was also willing to supply an activation code (second screen) at a monthly cost, that monthly cost is basically the cost to rent a new Optus Fetch box from Optus anyway

So why I said why bother

And why sellers on eBay/Gumtree are not actually lying selling there ISP boxes saying Optus can unlock/activate there Optus Fetch boxes but are certainly being misleading trying to cash in on there worthless ISP Fetch boxes

Mind you I have friends with Optus on great plans from years back and there basically getting the Optus Fetch Mighty Box monthly for free,. If compared to what Optus current broadband monthly prices are

I still prefer retail Fetch box as I hate paying monthly fees for hardware I won't get to own after contract is finnished

Everyone's situation is different my internet for my retail Fetch boxes comes from my Optus 4G simcard dongle modem which is shared with my mobile 4G Optus plan I.e data sharing,.. all above accounts costs me $50 a month so I'm ahead there
Could possibly be used for a family though I doubt my 125GB data would last long lolz

    • NO. "ISP" FETCH boxes are useless if you don't keep them activated. As other comments have said, they can't be unlocked.

  • Sorry to ask. I couldn't quite find the answer. But is this locked by any chance? The one that is being sold?
I see comments suggesting that the ones from optus is locked only to optus services is that correct? Just wanted to make sure before spending my jobkeeper on this :)

    • No, it is the retail version. When people talk about locked boxes, they mean ISP provided boxes being locked to only work with that specific ISP. E.g. Optus provided box only working with Optus.

    • +8

What are you talking about? Fetch are constantly updating the interface.
The entire UI was overhauled in 2017, and there is another UI overhaul happening later this year. They just added new Parental Controls, and their Multi Room feature is the best in the business. Plus it's 100% Australian.

  • +1

I like FetchTV. Very often you get free access to the paid channels especially during school holidays.

  • +1

NVIDIA VS FETCH TV VS APPLE TV
    Should do some analysis.

    • +1

Totally different items. Fetch is good for those that want to watch Free to Air and record multiple channels with the added bonus of having some Online stuff included eg Netflix, Stan and so on.
Nvidia and Apple TV are more geared for Online stuff rather than free to air and recording etc.

      • +1

While everything you said is true.
Both the AppleTV and Nvidia Shield can do PVR/FTA recording when used together with other devices, such as an HD Homerun and/or TV Mosaic.

  • What am I missing? Reviews seem very poor for this item.

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/fetch-tv

    • Yeah a lot of poor reviews there indeed and the lack of decent support. Now I know a lot of reviews appear when things go wrong as most people that are happy tend to forget/have no reason to go out of their way to say good things. Has one thinking indeed especially with so many grumbles. Will have to read more of them. Having said that, it does have a two year warranty and if things turn south over and over, just ask for a refund.

      • +1

Update: Was on the edge on whether to buy or not. The reviews tipped me into the "will hold off" for now. Sounds like a lot of hardware or software issues with the units and total lack of customer service. Will stick to existing Panasonic PVR for TV, Rasp Pi (Kodi) for NAS Media and Chromecast for Netflix/Kayo and the likes. I have a Vodafone TV box but it's not in use (doesn't record). Would be silly to add a Fetch TV to the mix but love the concept.

    • I have a fetch gen 2 for a few years and overall its a great device thats very handy to use but its not without bugs and quirks. Also I've had to get into the habit of checking the fetch box before the evening to monitor clashes as the fetch gen 2 only allows 2 fta channel families at once. Probably not as much of an issue with the mighty as it apparently allows 4.

The most annoying bugs I'm currently putting up with is I always set a recording 5 minutes before and there is a button you press on the remote control to skip 5 minutes but after an update a while back the button doesn't work at the start of a new recording. So when watching a new epsidoe I can't press the button a skip the 5 minutes and start the ep I have to fiddle with the fast fwd button instead which is annoying and timewasting.

The other bug is with series tags. Footy classified has two eps a week now. The footy classified series tag thinks wednesday new episode is a repeat of mondays when its not and won't automatically record. I've also had issues the series tag for the rachel maddow show on msnbc not recording the live episodes at 11am and recording the repeats later in the day which doesn't work when the repeat doesn't air due to breaking news. Also episodes of anderson 360 on cnn not recording despite and active series tag some days.

  • I love my Fetch box, I bought another for another room. Thank You sh4hp

  • +1

Wait, no plex client? Is this real life?

  • +1

Does it provide any additional function if u already have a smart tv. It can already record into external hard drive and has all apps loaded.

    • +1

Series recording is great, up to 4 channels can be recorded at the same time. Can also schedule remotely on mobile app

  • The best !!

  • How does this compare to a Humax PVR with IceTV? My other half still likes to record stuff off TV so we have a subscription.

We're on iiNet NBN if that makes a difference..

    • +1

$1 activation no ongoing fees, unless you want their TV packs.

Series recording up to 4 channels at the same time, can also be set up remotely on mobile app to records

      • Thanks, do you need to be on any specific plan… I see Optus plans mentioned a lot…

Not too sure on these boxes, as I don't really use our Humax!

        • +1

After activation you can view all free to air channels, catchup tv etc. Has apps for stan, netflix etc.

If you want more channels then you subscribe to them like you would with foxtel. The packs are $6 each see here https://www.fetchtv.com.au/packages

          • @cojones: What is the EPG like? We pay around $8 a month (I think) to IceTV just for the EPG

            • +1

@beebul: One of the better ones out there, and no cost, note only 7 day EPG. Works really well on the app also, wife proof and series recording is easy. https://fetchtv.com.au/tv/guide hopefully this link works

  • where to get premium channels If i buy it here?

  • +3

Was enough for me to bite, thanks! 😀

  • if I buy this fetch tv hook it with my nbn and just buy knowledge pack? does that mean ill be just paying $6 per month? or is there any other cost?
    thanks

    • -2

you need to rent their fetch box also.

      • if I buy this? then why should I rent? ill just use ethernet from router/modem to this box?

        • You are correct, just $6 per month if you subscribe to the pack.

      • +1

If u buy retail box as per this offer there is no rental for hardware, only if you subscribe to extra channel packages https://www.fetchtv.com.au/packages

        • +1

          @cojones: Yeap, was what I said :-)

  • Hi, if you pause Live TV (time shift function) or record live TV and watch later, how is the fast forward or skipping doing? Is it smooth and fast so you can easily skip Ads? I have a Topfield PVR box and it’s very good in that function, but with the TV’s built-in PVR function through USB port, it’s very slow and clumsy, clunky in skipping/fast forward/rewind.

    • Maximum 32x Fast Forward and Rewind.

      Can also forward/rewind at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x.

      • Because its freeview you can only fast forward ads, i think the humax can skip them completely. It's a small trade off and not a deal breaker for us with the other features.

  • I own Fetch Mighty Retail box, it's great when it's working but started to show it's age (prob HDD was failing)
Contacted fetch and ask for a repair of HDD or ways to get a new HDD shipped.
The answer was they do not offer such a service and I must purchase a new or factory refurbished unit. Yikes.

luckily, HDD was still somehow readable, so hooked up to the PC and cloned it. didn't manage to clone 100% but enough to boot up and update to the latest software.

    Pros:
Free EPG, Enough Apps to cover my needs; Netflix,Stan,Amazon Prime, Hayu, and free to air stream like SBS/ABC, etc

    Cons:
    No repair service as stated.
Apps will freeze time to time, I have no choice but to power cycle at this state.
Netflix Interactive like Bandersnatch will not work. (I got PS4 for that, so not too much issue for me)

I looked at getting alternative PVR, but discounting service/repair issue, Fetch still looks like a winner.

  • I love my Fetch Mighty (through Optus). The only thing that annoys me is the lack of apps (Prime Video, Disney+) which maybe rectified soon, and the bloody remote. It's useless, the left direction button works about 1% of the time. Tried to get a replacement through Optus, but was told I had to pay for it, which is strange since we never own the box.

    • You can use the retail version remote compact version, there on Fetch eBay under $30

Actually your right why pay for it, ring Optus tell them the whole boxs doesn't work instead get a whole new boxs, I'm sure they'll wanna keep your business

  • I like everything about the Fetch accept for:
    * No automatic framerate / refresh rate switching based on content, FTA is 50Hz content, but Netflix, Youtube etc is often not, so you have to manually switch.
    * No appstore, for example, if you want Disney+, you need to wait until Fetch push it out.

  • Has anyone successfully upgraded their HDD on the Mighty? I'm looking to put a 4TB WD Black or Purple drive in and clone the factory drive (which is a 1TB WD green apparently).

  • -6

Persoally I see NO USE for the Fetch Box.
All the apps are available FREE on any other device including Chromecast, FireStick and all Smart TVs including old ones.
Its cheaper these days to buy a Smart TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can buy PVRs very very cheap on Gumtree and facebook if you require that function and most TVs today have that function built-in
You CANNOT change the apps so you cant add the BEST FREE movie app (Tubi)
Yes you get 30 movies a month to choose from for a subscription of $1/mth but how good are the movies?
Id rather have Tubi and choose what I like and most people have nettflix anyway

I was going to buy one but concluded that its a useless DINOSAUR

    • +3

Yeap but this tread isnt about your personal needs and is about a $299 Fetch box. The fact that you wrote what you did clearly shows that your are missing the whole point of where and who the Fetch Box is marketing itself towards. If however you did have to go out and buy a Smart TV (which usually have slow crap EPGs) and a seperate PVR for recording to, and a Chromecast type of device and so on…….then I suspect a $299 Fetchbox may well end up being a might dandy purchase to consider. A lot cheaper and much more convenient than having multiple devices assuming one had none to begin with.

  • Important caveat all should realise with this deal: if you purchase Fetch through your ISP (Optus, iiNet, Internode etc) you CANNOT combine subscriptions with this retail product. The retail box will work on your TV, but you won't have all the subscribed channel packs, remembered favourites, Multiroom functionality etc. that are provided with your ISP Fetch account They will effectively be two separate devices that share nothing. It's a real shame, I'd jump at this deal otherwise.

    • Under My Stuff/My Media Hub all Fetch boxes come up also as STB (IP devices) so I'm guessing the boxes are showing up as DLNA devices anyway if true multiroom doesn't work under the My Stuff/Recordings tab (between ISP and retail Fetch boxes)

So if you just want to share TV recordings to another room (say bedroom) I guess you could add a retail say mini box to an ISP Mighty Box that has the TV recordings stored

Honestly I've never tried this as all my Fetch boxes are retail but another Fetch box is just another DLNA device

      Can anyone concur 👌

  • The only reason I keep thinking about this box is that you can subscribe to the mtv channels - this appeals to my missus as she loves their crappy reality shows.
Does anyone else know a way of subscribing to MTV in Australia without foxtel or one of these boxes.
We have a Vodaphone box may be there is an app but I haven't found it.

    • +1

I think Vodafone box is an Android box and I just searched the Android play store with MTV and nothing I can see first off comes up to what you need, maybe try yourself though usually a paid service like MTV would be first on the search list and I'd say the same with Google search

I have an app installed in my Android phone called "just warch" it will basically list were any show is showing either FTA, Foxtel, Netflix etc nothing comes up for MTV, maybe cause MTV is more of a channel then a show

      • Thanks Italkdigital - I checked and it looks like a vpn on the vodafone box will allow you to watch shows on the American MTV site.
I will give that a shot.
        Thanks for your reply.

  • I’ve just read all the comments and I have a couple I questions.

I have a tv in 2 bedrooms just hooked up to a DVD player because there is no antenna connections and I haven’t got around to getting someone to put them in. If I connect the fetch mighty to the tv and antenna in the lounge room and connect a fetch mini to each of the tvs in the bedrooms, I’ll be able to watch FTA tv without the need for an antenna in the bedrooms, right?

Can you watch different channels on each of the boxes at the same time?

Are there any offers on the fetch mini out there?

    • +1

Watching FTA TV in the Mini's in the bedrooms - Yes, assuming you have Ethernet or Wifi coverage between the Mighty and the Mini's, and they are all on the same FETCH account. Note there is a limit of 3 FETCH boxes on any one account.

Watching different channels - Yes, you can watch & pause different live TV channels across all boxes. You can also watch recordings made on the Mighty on the Mini's

Mini offers - haven't found any myself. Looks like they are all around $169

The feature you are referring to called Fetch "Multiroom". Might be worth having a look at the user guide - link below.

      https://www.fetchtv.com.au/pdf/Multiroom_user_guide.pdf

      • Thanks. Looks like I’ll be jumping onboard this deal and will be on the lookout for 2 fetch minis.

      • @ atwilliams
Don't you mean you can watch the FTA Recordings from another Fetch box that's what multiroom is? As I don't think you can watch live FTA from another Fetch box
(but saying that I've never tried it)

I'm just saying above cause the above person (@jonoredv) was asking (I think) can anyone flick through any FTA channel and watch live FTA channels (without an antenna on the Fetch box) from another Fetch box through Wifi

But also saying that if your recording a FTA channel there is no reason why you can't watch that recording from another Fetch box while it's recording through WiFi (I know that works)

        • From what others have written/ replied plus I’ve done some more reading on the fetch website, you can watch fta tv and recordings from the mighty (which is connected to an antenna) on a mini in a bedroom which isn’t connected to an antenna. You can also programme the mighty to record shows using the mini box.

          • @Jono05: I have 2x Mightys and 1x Mini can test that for you tonight from my Mini too one of my Mighty 👍

That's watching live FTA on a Mini (not connected to an antenna) from a Mighty (WiFi networked) that has an antenna connected 👍

Honestly I assumed you couldn't but the Fetch boxes always surprised me with features I didn't know they had

100% I know you can link 1x Mini to 1x Mighty (ONLY ONE) and the Mini controls the Mightys recordings schedules basically turns the Mini into a Mighty as from the Mini EPG you can set FTA recordings of course the Recordings are stored in the Mightys hard drive not Mini

          • +1

@Jono05: Hi JonoRedv, bad and good news,.

I actually tested it on my Mini as my concept of it I was right,.. so no your Mini (without antenna) can't grab the FTA antenna signal from another Fetch Mighty (that is connected to an antenna) over home wifi

Great news (the good news) is would you believe I didn't even realise this was a feature as hidden in different tabs

From TV tab /then Catchup Tab, pick a catch up service like 7 PLUS (some services like 9 need to setup with account/password) from there there is another tab to the right called /Live TV

So you can watch live streaming of FTA channels (with No antenna) from the internet,.. so this feature is even better as you can use this service as a stand alone with either the Fetch Mini or Fetch Mighty box, you don't need 2x boxes all you need is WiFi internet or Ethernet connection around your home as this service is from the internet not antenna, note also,.. (I checked) you can not record this live FTA streaming but there's catch up FTA section anyway

I'd go for this Mighty offer since you don't need 2x boxes to get to watch FTA in your bedroom without an antenna, yes you can't record antenna FTA but you can record (just checked) any subscription packages you sign up with, Optus sport and (can't check) maybe Netflix Stan etc

            Hope this helped 😃

            • +1

              @Italkdigital:

your Mini (without antenna) can't grab the FTA antenna signal from another Fetch Mighty (that is connected to an antenna) over home wifi

It can (it was enabled 18 months ago) - I have it setup with my Mighty and Mini:

"You can share Free-to-Air channels to your Fetch Mini from a paired Fetch Mighty or Gen 2 box. So you don’t have to connect your Mini to your TV antenna. (Your paired Fetch Mighty still needs a TV antenna connection to receive and share digital Free-to-Air TV)"

              https://www.fetchtv.com.au/pdf/Multiroom_user_guide.pdf

              https://www.facebook.com/fetchTV/posts/1922163011163719?comm…

              • @kirt: My Mini and Mighty are paired
Ok thanks that means more testing as great if this works for me, I wonder if the Mini needs to be on the same account for pairing as that could solve the 4th fetch box's issue (as I'll get mum a Mini)

Just so I'll do the same to test as your setup so basically your changing your FTA channels the same way as if you had an antenna on the Mini? I.e. up and down on remote, press number 9 on remote for channel 9 or select channel from EPG

Anyway my other suggestion streaming Live FTA certainly suits those that only want to purchase one Fetch boxs not just FTA as the subscriptions are also listed in the EPG as the FTA channels

EDIT: I'm tempted to remove my Mini on my current account and add it to another new account to test to see if pairing still works since over the same WiFi then I can test if the subscriptions would work also, would fetch advertise this if possible or the 4th Fetch box they'd want you too pay for another set of subscriptions, sounds possible in theory lolz

Man I've gone on in this thread, whoops sowie 😃🤪😀👀😎👍👌

                • @Italkdigital: Ok got it going,.. I had to force an up date to the firmwares, by hitting blue, yellow, green, red buttons in order on remote,. and went through activation etc again

Funny I entered my Mighty activation code into my Mini thinking ok it works though Fetch server was smart enough to default it back to my Mini activation code from my one account

My experience from my Mini is laggy watching FTA over WiFi from my Mighty though I do have a weird WiFi setup WiFi over powerline adapters though streaming recordings have always worked and antenna signal is just another data stream as it's digital tv over the air

Also noticed on Mini once you connect it to normal antenna and scan all channels this over WiFi feature seems to stop working though again my WiFi has a weird setup

                • @Italkdigital:

basically your changing your FTA channels the same way as if you had an antenna on the Mini

                  Yep.

my other suggestion streaming Live FTA certainly suits those that only want to purchase one Fetch boxs not just FTA as the subscriptions are also listed in the EPG as the FTA channels

There are four FTA "virtual" channels listed in the EPG (ABC is missing), but they link to on demand content, not live TV:

                  https://www.fetchtv.com.au/press-releases/fetch-partners-wit…

…but as you say, the FTA catch up apps have a live TV section in them, but not for 10Play, and I know some sports have black outs on the live streaming services, so not everything is available.

Edit: Good to see you got FTA streaming working ;)

@kirt: Thanks for your input,.. certainly these helpful little features are giving value to the Fetch boxes

I still want to test taking my Mini to my cousins house (forgot to take today) I know viewing recording works from Mini to Mighty, (was crappy as had slow internet though will connect to my 4G optus mobile that does 260Mbps at his place) I wonder if multiroom would work, especially the Mini working without an antenna and streaming FTA, again RF is digotal

Gonna also move my Mini to a new 2nd account see if pairing Mini to Mighty still works cost of a $1 activation 👍 and see what features might work over 2 accounts and 2 Fetch boxes 😎
