TP-Link Deco M5-2P (2-Pack) AC1300 Mesh Wi-Fi System $188 Delivered @ Centrecom

260

An even better deal than the last one thanks to the commenter.

$188 delivered. < $100 per mesh access point delivered seems pretty good compared to the prices of Nest Wifi, etc.

As mentioned by the new young chap in the comments, you’re also eligible for the free T3U adapter via TP-Link website.

Not sure if officeworks or Bunnings sell the two pack so don’t think it can be price beaten :(

  • eligible for the free T3U adapter?

    • This sounds more like a question than a statement.

Can someone clarify? as the condition below just says "participating stores/outlets"

2.To be eligible to receive Bonus Product claimant must purchase any of these models (Deco E4 2 or 3 pack, Deco M4 2 or 3 pack, Deco M5 2 or 3 pack or a Deco M9 Plus 2 or 3 pack) in a single transaction from participating stores / outlets during the Promotion Period.

How do i know if they are participating? I've only seen Harvey Norman actually display this redemption.

      • yes that was a question.

the other shops are displaying the free T3U adapter banner. Centrecom doesnt.

  • How are these compared to Tenda MW6?

I have issues with TPG supplied Huawei router - doesn't seem to be able to handle 30-40 devices i got at home. could anyone comment on the stability of devices hooked on this mesh system?

    • I’m in the same boat. TP Link Deco vs Tenda MW6.

From what I’ve read the TP link has a better chipset and as a result handles more simultaneous connections.

    • +1

Not much of a difference for an average user.

      • Tenda use a slower Realtek processor.
      • TP-Link used a superior Qualcomm processor.

      Tenda MW6 2 pack is almost $65 less than TP-Link Deco M5.

Tenda MW6 is still very capabale of supporting upto 250 Mbps speed and 10-12 concurrent devices.

If you have more than 10-12 devices and have NBN speeds of more than 250 Mbps, go for TP-Link.

I just ordered the Tenda MW6 dual pack, as I have 100Mbps NBN (looking to upgrade to 250Mbps soon) and 7-8 devices to connect. My main concern was to eliminate dead-spots in my WiFi, which a Mesh Wireless will solve.

      • Thanks Paul. I have FTTN up to 50mb/s but a lot of devices. Might to with the TP link. Thanks mate :)

      • I have the MW6 with the tpg wifi/router. I have disabled the wifi function on the tpg router and plugged the MW6 to it. Still ll get dropouts but I’m contributing this to the tpg router.
I tried to disconnect the tpg modem router and just plug the MW6 to the nbn box but I couldn’t get it to work for some reason.
Really love the MW6 though. My place is 560m2 and there are no dead spots what so ever.

        • FTTN or FTTP?

            • +1

@zemphism: Two problems here. TPG require a router that can do VLAN 802.1q. Tenda can't do VLAN 802.1q. Churn away from TPG to get the NBN connection device and MW6 playing together nicely without TPGs router. I suggest Aussie Broadband or Telstra.

              • @Twix: Thanks for that but I’m locked in for 12 months or something atm. I have had people tell me that they have done it but can’t seem to be able to. They pretty much say plug and play for some reason

                • +1

@zemphism: If you don't want to wait 12 months another way around it is to sell the MW6 and get the Deco hooked up to the NBN connection device. Deco can do VLAN 802.1q.

                    @Twix: Cheats mate.

@Twix: Cheers mate. Thanks for that

                  • @Twix: I am with TPG too and looking to get the Deco. With the VLANG tagging issue would Deco automatically work with TPG NBN or still require some setup?

                    • @H-limelight: In the Deco app select custom and input the value of 2 in the VLAN ID and 0 in the internet VLAN priority. Instructions.

Care to share the MW6 deal, please?
        Thank you.

      • if i get 3 pack can one be connected to the 2.4GHZ and other one 5GHZ??

  • can this improve the speed in 2.4ghz ? so it doesn't drop it speed

    • Yes. 2.4ghz in cities and suburbs probably have some interference going on from neighbours and microwave ovens, but if you can provide strong enough signal it will override the interference

      • +1

Set channel for 2.4ghz to anything below 5 to avoid microwave interference completely.

If you want to max out your 5G wifi coverage, set to anything above 149.

        • i do that my 2.4 GHZ speed drop alot

          • @Digitalco: Congestion only… Find a channel below 5 with the least congestion, or put up with intermittent microwave disruptions. Not usually a big deal.

            • @Oofy Doofy: how about the other higher numbers?

              • @Digitalco: Anything in the 2.4 range, from 5 to 11 will be interfered with by microwave ovens.

                • @Oofy Doofy: oh that is good to know but why does the speed drop sometimes if i go higher like 13?

                  • @Digitalco: Congestion? I couldn't say for certain. Might depend on the router and a myriad of other things I can't account for.

Use a wifi analyser app to see if there are others in the vicinity on the same channel on 2.4

  • What about this? $99
AC1200 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System

    https://www.tp-link.com/au/service-provider/mesh-wifi/deco-e3(2-pack)/

    • It looks like they copied the Tenda model, and made a cheaper version that uses a power socket extender (it is plugpack/wifi router in one).. and also they use 100mbit lan instead of 1000mbit. I dont' know anything about how good it is
