  • Bleh..VIC missed out…~

  • Alternative link https://www.greaterunion.com.au/cinebuzz/join.asp?memberID=4…
I couldn't get the page up that was originally linked.

How do you know you missed out Ying?

  • It let me enter the comp. anyways, I guess I'll have to wait and see, thanks!

  • Well, i got to the page. It says: Please select the cinema where you would like to see THE SQUARE.
There's only NSW, QLD, SA and WA. No VIC!!!~ Not fair!!~ >_<

  • To all the Victorian residents, be glad you don't have to get suckered in to waste your time with this mediocre directed and acted Australian film.
It seems that Greater Union can't get the numbers in, so they give away tickets in hopes that they can make up for it in popcorn and drink sales.

  • actually, Kuric — the film makers routinely use these free screenings as a way to market (primarily Australian or independent), as they would otherwise struggle to get them out to audiences, with the tiny distribution budgets they survive on. the biggest part of the cost of film-making these days is the post-production / distribution / marketing where the artists make back a small amount of the royalties to live on and to fund their next work.
I haven't seen this film, but there's bound to be a cinema full of willing patrons ready to watch it, and some of them might get something out of the experience, no matter how you thought it was — either way, people will tell all their friends what they thought, good or bad.

the cinema chains (such as Village/Hoyts/GU/Palace) offer their facilities at a reduced rate for these screenings, because they're not paying for showing the film but, as you say, they get something back from their candy bar customers (personally I refuse to partake of their junk food price gouging).

for those people interested in this kind of event — you should look into a membership with AFI or other film organisations, where your annual fee will give you discounted tickets at every cinema session and ongoing free screenings.

  • has anyone got tickets yet?
