This is very good coffee, just bought a bad of proud Mary

  • Are the coffee beans from Colombia or Columbia?

    • At least two people didn't check the revision history

      Columbus Ohio

    • Columbia River Gorge

  • How do this guys fare vs 5SC?

  • +1

I reckon in general they are on par, according to my tastebuds.
The 5 senses deal is for a blend from what I can see, and these are single origin.

    • good point. forgotten the deal was for a blend whilst this is a single origin.

still looking for some confirmations from this community on a different brand/roaster to try other than 5SC

      cheers.

I can heartily recommend Two Cracks Coffee.
They have different single origins coming in all the time and the roasts are always suited to the individual bean, keeping the delicate floral/fruit notes on the some of the more delicate varieties.
They have a 'Globally Caffeinated Promo' for $45, giving you a choice of 4 different 250g single origins. Free shipping(AFAIK), and I have always received my orders within 5 days, from the opposite side of the country.
        Just my 2c.

Barrio roast some fantastic single origins

  • Got this coffee last deal.
    Recommended!

    • Is this a good coffee with milk?

      • I drink mine as a flat white. I like it.
        It's a stronger flavor that I prefer.

  • Thanks, my good coffee just ran out and I went back to the stuff from woollies that has been in the cupboard for 3 months… It tastes like dirt!

  • Is it single origin?

  • Been ordering from them for a while. I definitely recommend. But it really sucks to pay shipping just because I'm not in Vic. Be good if they could do free shipping at least for metros

  • Can anyone compare to Manna Beans?

  • What do you people use to grind beans ? Do you all use coffee machines with built in grinder?

everyone in ozbargain uses 404 page not found??
Hehe, link is broken. I would like to know a good cheap grinder as well. which one?

          • @Cataclysm: Thanks. But I was looking for a bit cheaper option
Would anyone recommend the kmart one:
            https://www.kmart.com.au/product/coffee-grinder---black/2260…

Also, I notice in these coffee deals that we have the option to get the pre-grinded coffee.
Are getting the beans preferred instead of grinded coffee?

I have just started to use re-usable pods for my espresso machine, so looking for these options.

            • +1

@jsb: That's a blade grinder, which chops the beans like a blender. Most people recommend a burr grinder for a nice even grind, but if you're not sure if you'll use it much you probably don't want to fork over $200.

You can pick up some pretty cheap hand grinders too. $70 for a good porlex, but the $10 ones I've snagged from here were fine for a few months before things started to go wrong.

Coffee loses a bit of flavor after being ground and sitting around for a while, so grinding the beans shortly before use gets best results.

              • @slimpickings: Thanks mate. I have ordered beans from this deal. Will research more on burr grinders

                • +1

@jsb: If you're going to get a cheapy hand grinder (under $60 or so), just get whatever cheapest one you can find on Amazon/ebay. They're virtually all the same with different branding in that price bracket.

            • +1

@jsb: Don't get it. Good for spices though.

I used to used my thermomix which is basically a blade grinder. Massive difference going to a burr grinder.

Suggest a hand grinder. They aren't hard to use and still very quick.

      • link not working, you got Z in the end,
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/breville-bcg820

what coffee machine do you use?

I love my Baratza Sette 270W(i). It's noisy and expensive, but fast and grinds brilliantly - by weight. I did not get a bargain price for it :)
As you'll read just about anywhere, a good grinder makes a big difference.
For me, this "grind by weight" makes another big difference when I want to adjust the grind as the beans age - and don't need to adjust the time/amount as well.

      • I love the look of that grinder, I almost pulled the pin on that but after research ended up with a eureka atom which is a great, quiet grinder. Definitely like that it has a set of scales built into yours though.

    • Hey bud, I really like my Rhinowares small grinder.

It's cheap-ish (from memory 50-60), Amazon has em, very compact and a nice design. I use a rubber band as an additional grip on the body.

I've had mine for a couple of years I reckon and it's still going strong. Travels well too for camping or longer interstate trips for example. Hard to go back to pre-ground coffee that's for sure.

  • Can anyone recommend me The Coffee Machine for OZB?

  • Smooth coffee. Ordered for delivery in nsw and didn’t receive order for 2 weeks and couldn’t contact them. Once I finally received the coffee I was happy with it.

  • how long 50% off sale is going to last for ?

    Shipping is $5 to SA.

    • Only showing full price in cart - is there a discount code to apply?
    • yes, above

  • Thanks OP. Really nice coffee. Grabbed it in the last deal. Came with a 250g coffee tin which was a nice addition. Recommended.

  • How is this compared to Bay Beans? Thanks

  • Haven't had a chance to try their coffee yet. Order from last time only just arrived today. But just be aware they are slow with postage. And by slow, I mean slow.
Manna are consistently quick and reliable with their orders. Not sure what these guys are doing but there's always a few people with the same concern each thread. Roast your coffee, put it in a satchel and post it. It's not hard.

    • Agree - super slow. 2-2.5 weeks before it gets delivered.

  • I just finished 1kg of these as espresso and personally strongly recommend against using them for a late. Their Sunset Blvd blend was much better with milk in my opinion.

    • No surprise you came to that conclusion. Blends are much better suited to milk than SO.

I wouldn’t recommend buying single origin if you’re a latte, flat white or cappuccino drinker.

  • Would love to try this but all the comments about slow delivery especially interstate kill it.

    • My recent order arrived in Perth in less than a week

      • Thanks but it’s the people who’ve waited 2 weeks or more that puts me off. Seems they are not that reliable. If I live in Melbourne would definitely try though.

  • Anyone received their Spirit of Colombia? Has been a full week since order and no beans have arrived, nor an update!

Tardy shipping persists with these folks. Will likely be my last order with them, which is a shame as the beans are pretty good.

    • Got mine last Tuesday.
They are slower at delivery than other roasters

    • Same here, have still not received……just sent them an email

      • +1

Mine showed up sometime over the weekend. Nice to have received it but a little more communication would help avoid the shipping abyss!
