Good for those of us who are missing op shops and great as the money raised is going to those in the community who need our help.

They have become disgustingly greedy these days. I'm all for charity and used to enjoy op shopping, but now it is just depressing the way they price their items. Seems as though any decent brand you can expect to pay $20+ for a shirt, even if it is covered in stains and faded..
Lol your name read 007 mins ago when I saw this reply. Nice to meet you Mr bond.
@00: As long as there is no puffer fish I'll be ok hahaha.
It's probably not worth their time to pack and send something without a mark up.
If you had a grungy store to rummage through then a lot less effort would be necessary….
You mean they set their prices based on what people are prepared to pay so they can raise money for their charitable activities and cover their cost of selling the products?
How dare they.
No their prices are based on retail comparisons in a bid to cut out the middle man small business market that grew up by stay at home mums etc. They figured if someone could sell something they salvaged on ebay for twice the price, so could they.
What they failed to factor in was the business costs associated, the small businesses they'd kill off and the general public they'd peeve.
Added to that, they alienate their supposed clients of low ses people (often the ones turning to Etsy/ebay to make extra quid), and take over 10% in admin.
Salvos, Savers and Red Cross are some of the worse offenders.
I had a peek at their online store just for fun…
$30 for dodgy pants what are they thinking??
It's an absolute disgrace and it totally goes against the ideal of sustainability. Not to point out that they make more cash on one single item than the worker made in the whole month stitching clothes… all this on the back of the tax payer because they "employ" either volunteers or for-the-doll-workers… and i could go on!
this is definitely not an OzBargain… lots of stores offer free shipping
Are you seriously negging a charity store?
How dare they

raise money for charity.
The model I've seen is they keep a lot of stock very cheap, then separate out stuff they can use to subsidise their operations. So there's a section in the stores around me for designer clothes / bags / etc with much higher prices, but most of the stuff in the shop is sold at very low prices. I'd expect the online store to have only the expensive stuff.
I don't have a problem with that - if they can use higher priced stuff to help with their core mission.
(I think I'm mainly talking about salvos and Vinnie's, not sure if there's a life line near me.)
This is cool
