Whilst I really love the idea, I can't bring myself to commit to a non-x86 based Windows device. Despite the various brandings over the years, none have lasted.

For sure! Even to a techie like myself, I'm not too sure if the x86 emulation is going to cut it. I honestly really want to test it out, but $1300 is an expensive test.

Mum and dad that just uses office and entail, this could be a great option however, but it's still an expensive test haha

      • Yes, emulation doesn't cut it sadly. x86 apps run slowly and not all x86 apps work. I tired to install PIA VPN and the installation failed. Had to manually set up VPN.

Best to stick with native ARM64 apps and use web based apps if there's an equivalent.

I bought one of these as a secondary device a few months ago and it's way better than I expected. Easily one of the best laptops I have purchased (even with the limitations of an ARM based device). If you're doing any processor intensive tasks don't get this. Only suitable for light duty productivity tasks and media consumption.

Snappy performance with native ARM64 apps (Edge, Firefox, VLC etc), instant on (really is instant on without any delay), Built in LTE (works perfectly unlike x86 laptops where it can be finicky), crisp high brightness display and quality speakers.

And the icing on the cake is it's fanless, doesn't heat up, super thin and light and the battery actually lasts around 15 hours.

      • I have been hearing a lot of positive things about this as well and its not even reviews or unboxing but real life usage after few months. Its very different from the Surface Pro X despite both of them using a similar processor.

By the way do you think this is a good travel platform for doing photography work? It seems like Adobe currently don't have anything that works with Windows on ARM unless I go the emulation route.

        • It's a great travel laptop but I don't think it'll be suitable for photography work since emulated apps run quite slow.

Here's list of ARM applications that might come in handy but sadly no photo editing apps yet.

        • Their poster app for x86 emulation was actually photoshop! So it runs for sure. Just make sure it's the 32bit version. Obviously it's not as perfect as a native x86 chip, but it works!

Adobe is also moving Adobe cc to ARM64.

If you're a hardcore graphic designer, would I get this as a daily driver, probably not. Do you touch up your camera photos on the run? This might be a worthwhile trade off if you want the battery life and other features. I'd do a lot more research however.

          • @incipient: Adobe did committed delivering an ARM64 port late last year so I think its coming though not in the mean time. I am not sure if I should buy the hardware now and waiting on the promise since things can change.

            • @Davesday: Honestly, I'd wait haha…and I'm generally a fan of these techie things. If you're into productivity, just a slim/light laptop, especially one with a new ryzen 4000 will give you less of a headache. Adobe cc will "just work".

      • it's really pretty impressive if you are using it for light duties. edit: actually might do alright with photoshop but the portability and speed for basic work task is pretty great. Battery life is king also. Totally agree re the performance of firefox edge etc. hopefully lots of others continue to compile for ARM.

I have most of my work apps in a browser now so have been using it for work and runs everything well.

This seems so expensive for what you get as a laptop. But cheap as a 13 inch folding mobile with keyboard.

    • compare this to the surface pro x and I think its a pretty great deal. That thing is expensive but has pen support however I am not a huge fan of how surface 2:1 work.

  • I still prefer the detachable version of Samsung Book.

And that one was Intel bases chipset. I am using it to this very day. Easily the best laptop I ever had for my work and media consumption.

Can't play high intensity games though.
