  • I reckon if I was going to just rely on Integrated graphics - I would save the $100 and get that 3200G you linked.

    • -1

Yes I would do so as well. Note these are not Zen 2 and actually Zen+ so not a significant (read barely) jump from 2400G either. In fact they are just better binned 2400G.

      • 3400Gs are not just top-binned 2400G chips. 3400G and 3200G are made using the 12nm process and while this may not give great IPC improvements, both APU and CPU can be clocked a bit higher and the heat spreader is soldered.

        • 12nm is basically a marketing term of 14nm+. It's just a more mature process compared to 2400G, otherwise identical. It's not an optical shrink, not even a slight bit.

          • @Bigboomboom: 3% IPC improvement and soldered heat spreader means they are not identical processes and 3x00G cpus are not binned 2x00G cpus.

It's not like other cpus which are actually the same hardware but just better binned, eg some of intel's cpus.

  • new 8 core cpus w/ graphics are otw i read

    I might wait for Ryzen 3 3100 or 3300x

    • +10 Yes, please please wait for the 3300X it is a whole generation ahead of the 3400G, much better performance for gaming. It should also be cheaper than this too ($180-200AUD based on it being $120USD).

    • I thought only the G denominator meant it had an APU?

      • +1

G means it has an APU, no designation or X mean it doesn't have on-board graphics

Going the on-board graphics route would be for super low budget builds, or probably more precisely best used for very small form factor use cases. Really, you'd be better off buying a used CPU/GPU for ~$120 each than going the APU route.

Great APU, but if you're buying it solely as a CPU, definitely invest in the 3100 or the 3300X - benchmarks and reviews all hit today. They obliterate the competition from Intel at the same price point (and beyond!), with the 3300X even outstripping a 7700K and the 1600AF (essentially a Ryzen 5 2600) in many tasks.

    • Yeah the 3300x is impressive.
