Chromecast user here. Only thing I hate about the Chromecast is the dial home check which means it needs a wifi/hotspot connection with internet access even for non-internet streaming. Been a few years since I've researched the firestick, but can someone confirm if these work over wi-fi that has no internet access? I have a couple of scenarios where having this would be handy.
It's not bad but it's a fairly slow device, slow/laggy UI etc. so if you're used to speed of proper media player/box I'd give it a miss.
Tempting but I got hisense smart TV and it has Netflix, YouTube, Stan, prime and sbs.
Only thing this adds is disney plus, but I'm not that keen anyway. I think I'll wait for Chrome cast sale
Vodafone tv has chromecast built in and Disney+ app compatible.

Tried to get an old RPI3 with Android TV working but crunchyroll is way too laggy on it.

If you are asking if it can connect to your phone for internet after enabling hotspot on your phone, then the answer is yes.
Yes mate that’s exactly what i was getting at, as i have no wifi at home, Chromecast won’t allow me to do the initial setup process using my mobile hotspot…

Got mine today, disappointed as there's no app search function from TV, and not many apps available, eg no kodi. Return in process.
Didn't want to research these things before you purchased? I'm pretty sure you can sideload Kodi btw.

No search function is a PITA, unable to sideload SBS OnDemand and 9Now - either just didn't work or parse error)..

Yeah totally as the reviews are that it performs noticeably better. There's no way I'm buying one until Amazon goes 4K in Aus.
