Will they do 25% cashback too ?

how does this compare to Makers Mark? I don't know too much about bourbon but I quite like Makers Mark when I tried it before

    • I know people love it, but im not a big fan. I prefer more oaky flavours. This one however, with ice, I do like. Just happened to finish a bottle!

At this price (and especially with the 25% cashback), Maker's 46 is a no brainer vs the standard Makers Mark.

I find Maker's 46 to be a richer, more complex version of Makers Mark - plus since it is 47% ABV, you can put in a teaspoon of water, or an ice cube to open the flavour up without watering it down.

Out of all the higher-end, sub-$100 bourbons, its my favourite so far.

      • Have you had Turkey 101? That’s probably my favourite sub-$100 bourbon but I’m keen to try this.

        • Have tried Turkey 101, Rare Breed, and Longbranch.

It's personal taste of course, but I prefer Maker's 46 over any of the above. Not that any of them are bad, they're all very-good-to-excellent, but given a choice at a similar price, I'd pick Maker's 46 when I want something easy drinking but tasty.

Well, I'd choose Rare Breed sometimes, depending on the mood I'm in.

They have dropped the price on this to clear out the old 750ml stock, so you might even get yourself an extra 50ml.

  • Yup, this is exactly what I intended to get (and just did). Reviews very highly for the price on a few youtube channels I watch and this is a great price even before the cashback!

  • How does this compare to blantons green label?

    • Big fan of Blanton's. Haven't tried the 46 though to be fair.

    So $45 then with shopbsck?

  • +1

Sweet, combined with the 25% off that is awesome.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Usually treat myself with a Woodford but I'll give this a go

  • Damn it missed the cashback by 3 minutes

Next best trick is to buy woolies eGift cards via shopback/cashrewards for 5% off and buy from BWS using them.

Not as good as 25% off, but better than 2% regular cashback.

Delicious bourbon. Brownest of the brown liquors… so tempting. What's that? You want me to drink you? But I'm in the middle of a trial.

Would this go well with LA Ice cola?

    • Prefer AC but each to their own

    • Fine, it's only $60, have it however you like. :)

  • Got the order confirmation on 19:59.

  • how does this compare with Hogs 3 Kentucky Straight Bourbon (sells for $40)? newbie on bourbons here

    • +1

I find the hogs a bit sweet. If you like JD then you'll prob like the hogs.

An extremely good bourbon at $60 let alone those that were lucky enough to get for $45 each

  • nice!

  • +1

Don't add lolly water to a good Bourbon….on the rocks is the only way to enjoy it…

A good price no doubt. However…

$60 still seems rather expensive for what is essentially a by-product of Laphroaig.

(In advance, I thank you all for your downvotes)

    • I have no idea what you are talking about.

Laphroaig and Makers are both owned by the same people, sure. But the liquid's couldn't be more different. So why mention Laphroaig?

      • +1

I think he was referring to the fact that Laphroig (and some other scotch manufacturers) use bourbon barrels to age their scotch.

To be marketed as "bourbon", one of the qualifiers is it needs to be aged in new charred oak barrels, which means there is a large secondary market for used bourbon barrels … which the scotch manufacturers buy and and age their product in. It also adds something to the flavour of the scotch.

So that's probably what Suit meant with his acerbic remark calling Maker's 46 a "by-product" of Laphroig.

      • Qwujibo is spot on. More specifically, Laphroaig only uses Maker's casks.

I'm not a scotch snob per se. It's just, for some unknown reason, I have always found maize based spirits utterly repulsive.

I guess thanks to its farming subsidies, the USA's love affair with corn isn't going to end anytime soon.

      • Laphroaig is good stuff.

Macallan would season their cask with sherry, then the sherry gets dumped and essentially wasted. In Laphroaig's case, at least their turn their by-product into money, which is a better resource management strategy.
