  • I might be wrong, but I thought the same modem was on sale a while ago, for like $60-70???

EDIT: Yep, it was a different model, move along…

    • It is not a modem. It is a wireless N router (single band) with gigabit switch. The main attractive points for this router are: (a) two USB ports and (b) custom firmware support (quite a few).

Asus had the $30 cashback promotion before, but it ended.

      • DOH! thanks netsurfer, must learn how to read…lol

    • The RT-N12 is for sale for about $60, but doesn't have USB outputs and NAS capability.

  • This router is really fantastic.
Yes, there are ones that will do the job for less but if you're after rock solid stability that can handle a seemingly infinite number of connections you can't go past the RT-N16.

  • I'm glad that ppl like this router, and hopefully this deal.

  • I would be interested but I'm waiting for more comments :)

    • have a look at mine below.

  • Good router, have had it for a while with Tomato firmware and doesn't skip a beat. Good buy at that price as I paid around $170 8 months ago.

    • I have the same setup with the RT-N16, but with an additional RT-N12 also running Tomato as a wireless to ethernet bridge giving me four ethernet connections in the lounge room. Both great!

    • I second this.
Been using this with Tomato USB for just over a year (at around $170 just like TonightAt11)
Easy to setup and works flawlessly.

    • I run an oleg based firmware with my RT-N16… coz. that one is more optware really I think. The WebGUI is not as nice as the Tomato one, but I am more into Linux stuff (DNS, WebServer, SQLServer, SANE (Scanner server), Samba 3 etc…).

As for RT-N12 (or RT-N13U), you don't really need to run custom firmware if all you want is make it a repeater. In fact, the stock firmware might be better. It has a wireless repeating feature - just flick the switch to repeater mode(which basically connects to your main router wirelessly AND extend the wireless network at the same time) - this way, you extend wireless range & all 5 ports are available (so wireless - LAN extension on top of wireless extension). You can probably achieve similiar setup with Tomato as well I think - but need a bit more confirguration.

      • The manual seemed to suggest it would disable the ethernet ports with the stock firmware in the wireless repeater configuration. It is dead easy to do that in Tomato as well…

  • Great prices rep!

The router is awesome at this price and after $10 off is close to the Asus cashback inclusive price, even though that cashback scheme has already expired. I got one while cashback was on and slapping on Tomato firmware just makes it even better

The other good deal is the Avermedia HomeFree F210 at $109 (after $10 off coupon), which is cheapest I have ever seen and $20 cheaper than the last deal found elsewhere: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51159 and next cheapest on staticice is $160 (that too from Penta aka never in stock!): http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=homefree+f210&s… As for a review of the product, see the link of the past deal above, even jv liked this, so that's saying a lot :)

Remember people, if you like a rep deal, then click + to encourage them to post better deals in the future. Also ask for anything specific you're after, it's only through our feedback they'll know what we want - that's how we got mobileciti to give great deals on so many different sd card models.

    • thank you for your appreciation…:)

  • I've got my RT-N16 currently hooked up to the internet using a ZTE MF668 (aka Telstra Elite Next G USB modem).

I'm running dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin on the router so as to get the 3g USB modem support.

Regarding the deal - the price seems pretty good for NSW pickup; shipping to Brisbane is $14 (thus 125+14=139).
MSY sells it at $139, and Umart sells it at $143.

  • +2

So so deal as MSY is selling $135. If I have this sent to me as I am in Melbourne, it will be $139.00 after discount.

  • Thanks..grabbed one of these..sounds like an awesome device!
