Amino Z Hand Sanitiser 1L $19.95 ea + $5 Back in Store Credit ea (Free Delivery 4+ Units, Else $9.99) - More Available @ Amino Z

May 6 Updates:

  • All orders now shipping within 1 day.
  • Our customer service team is about 2 days behind on emails and are doing their best to catch up (all are doing overtime and we have just hired more people too).
  • Thank you EVERYONE for your patience and overwhelming support while we have been scrambling to get these orders out.

Deal Notes:

In case you're unfamiliar with Amino Z, we're a supplement manufacturer/retailer. And now we're making hand sanitiser in our facility (who'd have guessed). All the obvious reasons why with the gyms being closed.

We are again doing this completely in-house. There's no importing of product and everything is local (ingredients, labour and packaging). Frankly we're just making basic, no-frills hand sanitiser. This is the TGA COVID-19 formulation.

Here's the rundown:

  • It's in an ugly plastic jerry container (We found these after literally days of hunting down containers)
  • I personally created the sticker in Photoshop (Hence why no-frills as this represents the extent of my graphics design skills. As a side note, I am still very jealous of the artwork skills of some of the distilleries.)
  • It's 80% ethyl alcohol (ethanol) with distilled water and propylene glycol (1.45% v/v) and hydrogen peroxide (0.125% v/v). This has been updated as per the TGA guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic here. This is a slightly viscous liquid formula and is not a gel.
  • It's 100% Australian: We make it in Sydney. Ingredients are all Australian sourced. The bottles are manufactured in Victoria. The labels are printed in Queensland.

The deal is $19.95 each (that's for 1 Litre). Order 4 or more and get free shipping, otherwise shipping is $9.99 Australia Wide (or you can pickup for free).

Plus you'll get $5 back as store-credit per unit. It will be credited to your email once the order ships out and can be used as a discount on any future purchase. Perhaps some added motivation to get back to the gym when they reopen? :)

Orders will now ship within 1 day.

As compared to when we initially launched the deal on April 14th, our cost prices have gone up as I've had to scramble to find more ingredients. However since there will be a slightly longer lead time than last time, I figure it's only fair to keep the deal identical. Plus the previous experience was terrible for some people who spent hours trying to purchase, I cannot in good faith increase this price for all of those who missed out. Instead the only change is that we're accepting credit card (MC/VISA/AMEX) payment directly (using eWay) as to avoid the higher fees of other payment processors (ie. cut out the middle man so we can still make this feasible).

I am aware there have been a number of hand sanitiser deals on Ozbargain lately. I'm hoping that this represents good value given the costs of the components we had to source. Happy to answer any questions!

@assailantsky: Chemistry education will tell you the difference between ethanol and isopropyl alcohol is minor, both will work just fine.

The CDC doesn't even bother to distinguish between them.
              https://www.cdc.gov/infectioncontrol/guidelines/disinfection…

The only reason isopropyl alcohol is so commonly used is liquor laws and the abuse potential of ethanol.

              • @greatlamp: I'm sorry but my chemistry education tells me otherwise. Structurally they are different and their molecular weight is different. Functionally (polarisation is different hence why their activity against virus envelops and bacterial membranes are similar but different). There're reasons why TGA recommends and legislate certain formulas, and it's not up to us or the manufacturer/seller to pick and choose and say "oh she'll be right".

This product is sold here to Australians so I think Australian laws and regulation apply.

              • @greatlamp:

Yep. This is why we sell Metho, so that people can't buy it cheap to get drunk easily.

            • @assailantsky: The vendor has responded and updated the formula, very responsive. GO "Made in Australia"!

    • Thanks for the comment! The website is improving, albeit slowly. Orders are coming through at a very high rate at present and if the server is down, just try again in a few minutes. Very sorry about this, we did not expect the overload!

    • So sorry about that AMLagonda. Orders are now going through but the website is still very slow. It may be worth trying tomorrow when the website settles down but I'm terribly sorry we did not anticipate such a spike in traffic.

The way Australia Post is at the moment, it won’t arrive until this pandemic is over.

    • Yeah by the time it arrives there will be sanitiser with iso and aloe gel, which feels a lot better on your hands.

Auspost is about 3 business days behind they have advised us. We've updated the ETA's in our checkout, but they are certainly struggling to keep up with online demand.

      • Jay
      • They are lying to you. 3 business days is an absolute lie.

Check their Facebook page and read all the angry people waiting for their packages. I’m still waiting for something coming from Melbourne to Perth that I ordered almost a month ago. Normally takes 3-4 days.

  • Also, anybody have an opinion of the Ethical Nutrients 'Daily D'? Any other brands that you prefer?

  • Whilst like everyone i can't get onto the site due to it getting Ozbargained, Aminoz are great. Have been using them for years and can't speak highly enough. Definitely recommend the Ozbargain community getting on the Aminoz train. Great deals and great service!

    • Thanks so much for the support, I really appreciate it jayjosephceltics. You're right we're getting smashed, completely and utterly.

Finally, a vendor that doesn't price gouge. I don't need one and probably won't buy one because I still have some but I'm sure there will be plenty people who will buy from you! Thanks mate!

    • Finally, a vendor that doesn't price gouge

Yeah it's good to see. Unfortunately people will take advantage and still hoard this kinda stuff getting way more than they would ever need. Some may even buy in bulk to try and and resell and profit from it. The so called "Aussie spirit" goes right out the window in times like this.

    • +5

You'll hope that this vendor has used the right formulation for hand sanitisers as approved by TGA

  • Web site is being Ozbargained. Not responding to requests.

    • Yep absolutely, the website is under a lot of stress at present. Orders are going through (a LOT of them). Very sorry about the inconvenience, but you will be able to order if you're patient. Or just try in a few hours when things should settle down a little more. Again very sorry about this.

      • Jay
  • Can't buy it lol

    • Web page eventually loads up in about 2 minutes. Be patient. Not sure how long it will take to get through the checkout.

      • It loaded, tried to add to cart and just get a cloudflare error.

        • Yeah sounds like it's not connecting to a server database.

Hi OP, being a chemist (not the pharmacist kind), I'm a bit curious about your formulation and what kind of ethanol and propylene glycol you've used here. With your description, your formula don't seem to comply with hand sanitisers formula excluded by regulation from TGA for cosmetic use (link):

Quote from TGA: "The final formulation of the hand sanitiser must contain only the following ingredients:
EITHER ethanol 80% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade or food standard grade) OR isopropyl alcohol 75% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade) in an aqueous solution."

You've quoted 75% Ethyl alcohol in your OP, which is ethanol, you'll need to use isopropyl alcohol for a 75% formulation. Please confirm the percentage of each ingredients used in your formulation??

No one wants sub-optimal and non-compliant sanitisers.

    • So you work in a professional lab?

      • +7

Yes. And no, I don't work for the TGA. The approved formulation is posted on the link if you want to decide for yourself.

        • +5

Just confirming it was a pro lab. I almost thought you were involved in some kinda "Breaking Bad" style operation…

    • +1

      Hey nerd,

Had a quick question. If you want to dilute methylated spirits (95% ethalol) to 75% is it just c1v1=c2v2? We don't need to worry about the mass and density of ethanol right, just the volume?

      • +5

You'll want 80% v/v for ethanol. Density and mass don't matter, hence the % volume/volume.

        • righto. Ahh I diluted it to about 73% so hopefully its better than nothing.

          • +4

@ChickenDinner123: Also I won't use diluted methylated spirit as your main hand sanitiser. The reason is the other 5% (water and other unknown) could potentially be dangerous with long term exposure. That's why TGA says to use food grade ethanol at the very least.

            • @assailantsky: Fair enough. However the remaining 5% is a mix of water and a small amount of bitrex (pretty non-toxic). I try to use it to wipe down items and mostly use soap or what little sanitzer I have for me hands.

          • +2

            @ChickenDinner123: https://www.cdc.gov/infectioncontrol/guidelines/disinfection…

Anything between 60% and 80% is fine. Killing time might vary a little. Chemists usually aren't so pedantic.

      • +12

        Hey nerd

        This had me in stitches…

    • This post needs to be higher.

    • +9

      Thanks for the note here.

I responded to your comment way up higher in the thread, but I believe you raise a fair and valid point.

Although I'm unsure if the prior formulation would fall under the "cosmetics" category, I think it's overall better for everyone if we updated the formula to reflect that which has been provided by the TGA. We're looking to provide a product for the current crisis and we want it to be a quality product. As we have not yet bottled it, we will make that amendment so it's TGA compliant.

Appreciate the feedback and you bringing this to my attention.

      • Jay

Thanks Jay, replied to your earlier post and I have removed the neg. Hope you sell tons of the improved formula!! Thanks again.

PSA - awesome price, but not to the WHO standard or TGA guidelines

As such, am gonna revoke my + vote for this deal - sorry OP

    • having doubts as well as per the WHO standards

    • +4

Just a note, we're revising this formulation to be compliant with the TGA guidelines. Quality and value is very important and as I own the company, the last thing I want is for us to be selling a product considered to be substandard.

Appreciate the honest (and fair) feedback.

Is anyone else a little concerned that we need ads telling us to wash our hands?

We have become disgusting animals, actually worse than animals if we need to be reminded of simple basic hygiene.

    • +3

+1 on this, I've witness guys dont even wash their hands after visiting the little boys room in the office. Imagine having to shake hand with those "animals" (pre-COVID of cos). Absolutely disgusting!

It is what you do to people you don't like.

  • Jay@Amino Z,
This is a massive opportunity for your business to get a heap more customers. over 7,000 clicks on this deal.

Do some marketing, have a min spend and use hand sanitiser as one of your dollar deals when the customer checks out.

Great deals on Amino Z and they have a price checker before you checkout so you always get the best price.

    • Thanks for the suggestion budgetman! Really appreciate it. We certainly weren't expecting this level of response, but perhaps we can continue to offer more value with similar deals!

Eh, just wanted 1L for when I go on my placement rounds next week, but I seriously can't be bothered with all of this effort. Have been refreshing for almost an hour now. Whatever, just not worth the effort will probably sell out anyway before I can buy it. GL to those who can be bothered and get it.

    • Sorry AjsGuns and I completely understand. Our website doesn't normally generate anywhere near this traffic and so frankly I don't blame you. Orders are going through now however the website is still very slow. All the best with placement next week.

      • Jay
  • "our backend team is slowly bringing it back online"
Can somebody with website managementy chime in with this…
What does that mean? Simply waiting it out for people to stop refreshing, shoring up extra bandwidth, re-writing bloated code or hosting across load-balanced servers?
    I'm guessing the first option…

    • Looks like they enabled cloud flare, the site should be good from now on, unless their server drops off for a different reason.

      • No, it had CloudFlare from the get-go & is still down now most of the time. CloudFlare just stops attacks, doesn't do much for legit visitors like us OZ'br's

        • +1

Site's working fine for me. I just didn't order because it seemed like a bit much cost for an ethenol/glycol based liquid

    • This is code for me doing everything I can do streamline code and turn off unnecessary features, while waiting for the admin team to give me updates. It was actually a combination of all of the above. I'm very sorry for the terrible experience, we were ill-prepared for this spike and that's completely on us.

      • Jay
  • I GIVE UP! Been trying for an hour but can't checkout :(

Bought 500ml Enya sanitizer at Chemist Warehouse Turramurra last month for $7

    • +5

And I used to go to work by public transport like most ppl….ur point?

      • I think he's point is that you can get 1L for $14 by buying two of those 500ml….compared to $19.95 here for 1L, although getting one container may be more convenient than two 500ml ones….

  • -5

Why is there less COVID19 cases and more people buying hand sanitiser. It doesn't make sense. People think COVID19 is lurking somewhere like under their toilet seat?

    • +4

Because sanitizer is going to be the norm for a while. When cities start to open up, people still need to be precautious when going out to prevent a second wave (as evident in Korea and Singapore). One of the precautions is to use sanitizer after touching public surfaces. While you may not see much use for sanitizer in a home environment, it is the most convenient method of disinfecting while out and about.
