May 6 Updates:

  • All orders now shipping within 1 day.
  • Our customer service team is about 2 days behind on emails and are doing their best to catch up (all are doing overtime and we have just hired more people too).
  • Thank you EVERYONE for your patience and overwhelming support while we have been scrambling to get these orders out.

Deal Notes:

In case you're unfamiliar with Amino Z, we're a supplement manufacturer/retailer. And now we're making hand sanitiser in our facility (who'd have guessed). All the obvious reasons why with the gyms being closed.

We are again doing this completely in-house. There's no importing of product and everything is local (ingredients, labour and packaging). Frankly we're just making basic, no-frills hand sanitiser. This is the TGA COVID-19 formulation.

Here's the rundown:

  • It's in an ugly plastic jerry container (We found these after literally days of hunting down containers)
  • I personally created the sticker in Photoshop (Hence why no-frills as this represents the extent of my graphics design skills. As a side note, I am still very jealous of the artwork skills of some of the distilleries.)
  • It's 80% ethyl alcohol (ethanol) with distilled water and propylene glycol (1.45% v/v) and hydrogen peroxide (0.125% v/v). This has been updated as per the TGA guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic here. This is a slightly viscous liquid formula and is not a gel.
  • It's 100% Australian: We make it in Sydney. Ingredients are all Australian sourced. The bottles are manufactured in Victoria. The labels are printed in Queensland.

The deal is $19.95 each (that's for 1 Litre). Order 4 or more and get free shipping, otherwise shipping is $9.99 Australia Wide (or you can pickup for free).

Plus you'll get $5 back as store-credit per unit. It will be credited to your email once the order ships out and can be used as a discount on any future purchase. Perhaps some added motivation to get back to the gym when they reopen? :)

Orders will now ship within 1 day.

As compared to when we initially launched the deal on April 14th, our cost prices have gone up as I've had to scramble to find more ingredients. However since there will be a slightly longer lead time than last time, I figure it's only fair to keep the deal identical. Plus the previous experience was terrible for some people who spent hours trying to purchase, I cannot in good faith increase this price for all of those who missed out. Instead the only change is that we're accepting credit card (MC/VISA/AMEX) payment directly (using eWay) as to avoid the higher fees of other payment processors (ie. cut out the middle man so we can still make this feasible).

I am aware there have been a number of hand sanitiser deals on Ozbargain lately. I'm hoping that this represents good value given the costs of the components we had to source. Happy to answer any questions!

  • Will be interesting what happens to the ethanol / hand sanitizer market when the corona lock downs are finished, when so many companies are gearing up ….

    • +1

I think a lot of people are doing it as a stop-gap to the market AND wanting help other locals. I just realised it doesn't take much to make this at home from scratch with a relatively inexpensive setup.

  • bloody hell… site's getting ozbargained… cloudflare snapshot is all i'm getting at the moment…

    • +1

Sorry about this, we've never experienced traffic anywhere near this level before. Working very hard on getting things back online and I'll keep the original post updated.

      • Jay
      • out of stock now… i didn't get a chance order yesterday with the site doing down. OP any idea when you'll allow more orders?
        cheers

  • +5

Probably hoarders doing their hoarding work now.

  • Does hand sanitiser have a use by date, or will it be as good to hoard.. asking for a friend.

    • they do, usually would last for few years (2-3 more often)

    • Apparently, the alcohol evaporates faster than the other ingredients. This changes the percentage of alcohol content. At some point, the alcohol content will drop below the minimum recommended by WHO and so will be less (or ineffective) at sterilising your hands.

      • Anything below a 90% formula (75% here) it should be pretty stable. Something like a bottle of methylated spirits (95%) is more likely to degrade, mainly by absorbing moisture from the atmosphere

  • +1

    Yeah sites crashed

    • Yep looks like it

    • Yep way too much traffic for our server! We're working hard on this and will keep the original post updated.

      • Jay
  • Cool stuff.

You make ur own supplements too?

    Didnt realise.

    • Thanks for the upvote! We sure do. We manufacture the Amino Z range in-house (protein and amino acids) - it's a low priced range that we offer.

      • Jay

Maybe there should be a limit on purchase numbers? I assume there will be people going to buy a heap and starting hoarding again or brodening.

    • Once the server is working again this is a very good point. I did not know how many units we would sell but given the current traffic, we may indeed need to implement this.

      • Jay
  • Tried to complete payment but website stopped working

    • Same boat :(

    • Could you send through a private message with your email if in doubt about payment going through but the order not being processed properly? Otherwise if it didn't go through at all, I'll be keeping the original post updated once the server is responding properly again.

      • Jay
    • same, cant even open checkout :(

  • It’s kinda fun to keep refreshing the post and see the counter for the number of clicks keep climbing up. :)

This is the post everyone’s been waiting for! Hopefully other vendors bring down their prices now.

    • +1

Thanks for the support! Yes it's pretty amazing seeing that counter…on the other hand it's no fun when the website crashes ahhhh!

      • Jay
  • Anyone actually bought one yet?

    • We have had a number of orders go through but there are periods where no one has been able to order. We're working on this and I'm keeping the original post up to date as much as possible

Great deal - don't understand how people go through a litre of sanitizer though, even considering circumstances.

I've had a 100ml one last me 2 months already. Am I doing it wrong?

    • +2

      You bathe in it silly.

      /s

    • If you're using it to disinfect surfaces like door handles, phones, trolleys, packages that you receive, etc, it's not too difficult to use up a litre. If you're a family of 5 it'll go even more quickly.

      • wth — people actually use hand sanitiser to disinfect packages and phones?

        • Officeworks did with an item I bought this morning… the outside plastic of the box of the item I bought.

    • you are not hoarding for World War Z

    • 1000ml/7 = 142.85ml.
For a family of my size, atm it wouldn't last long. Not gonna buy because we're now largely at home except for one person and have plenty of left over hand sanitiser.
For yourself, a litre is a lot lol.

    • Agreed, we're hardly leaving the house, so we haven't even gotten very far through our 50ml bottle. The people buying these are never going to use it all, and supply is not going to run out.

  • Can I reserve one by leaving a comment? 😬

    • So sorry about this Hellochris. The team is doing everything they can to get the website back online and I'm updating the original post as much as possible. Orders are currently going through, you just need to be very patient with the website.

      • Jay
  • Site is getting ozbDDOS

    • Sure is. We have just not been prepared for this one. Website is responsive again at present however!

      • Jay
  • Oh god your website is toast. Not prepared for Ozbargainers but that's a great price! Glad to see there's still people not wanting to take advantage of the current situation.

Side note: I love it how you have "nutritional info" for this hand sanitiser lol.

    • You are 100% correct. The deals we have ran in the past have generated a fraction of this traffic. Thanks for the support though! We are working hard on this to get it operating faster, it is going through now FYI (just really slowly!)

      • Jay
  • Fantastic, OP - I wish you also sold dispensers of some sort.

    • They do. There is a pump bottle combo

      • thanks guys, will check when their site is back on. I was looking for an automatic one for my small office.

    • Just scroll down a tad, they do.

    • +1

Just refill a small dettol hand sanitiser

      • Just refill a small dettol hand sanitiser

It works for me personally but not in the office unfortunately.

    • Thanks for the upvote!! Yep we have the little spray bottles:

      https://www.aminoz.com.au/simple-sanity-spray-bottle-100ml.h…

It's $3.95 if you buy them together.

      • Jay
  • Im here for the Ozhammer shows

  • I you lot are only ordering ONE

    Dont be greedy

    • I wouldn't be too optimistic. I'm sure there's plenty of hoarders on ozb.

      • Hoarding over 1 Litre of sanistier is dumb. 1 Litre should last atleast a year

        • +1

Not if you filling a bath tub with it.

    • Perhaps they have the ability to make ethenol themselves?

  • +4

Every sanitiser post makes me wonder where Nayld eBay is when you need him.

    • yep, thank you Nayld for deals before the isopropyl shortages ….. still have 4 litres left.

    • I was just thinking the other day how lucky all the "I don't know how I'm ever gonna use 5L of IPA" crew got.

  • +1

Good Job OP. Currently using Zoono, so good for the year atm.

    • How do you find the Zoono? I’m still waiting for my order.

      • +1

Good, its foaming style, but goes on like normal sanitizer and dries up.

I ordered mine 01/03/2020, received it last week

        • Yes, I have an email confirmation and they have sent my order from NZ. I’m waiting on Auspost now.

          • @toasty: Austpost is useless tbh. Took 3 weeks from Sydney. I updated my comment above as I misread your 1st question. Thought you were asking how to find Zoono :)

            • @pformag: Yep, it’s almost a week over Auspost’s original delivery date but, to be fair, it was Easter and I’m sure they are experiencing more demand than usual. Thanks for answering my question. :)

    • All good but thank you for posting!!

This isn't WHO certified at all. Where is the 3% peroxide???? Cutting corners…..

    • +8

This is wrong, WHO recommends 0.125% for the final product, with 80% ethanol. < You read the wrong area on the WHO recommendation.

But this isn't a certification, it's a recommendation, totally different. It's also proven >60% ethanol will kill the virus.

OP hits right on the mark, as water with ethanol is more efficient than higher percent ethanol to denature the viruses.

      • +6

I'll stick to 98 octane just to make sure then

      • +3

Just a fyi, WHO recommends the following:

        https://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/Guide_to_Local_Production.pdf

        Final concentrations:
        • Ethanol 80% (v/v),
        • Glycerol 1.45% (v/v),
        • Hydrogen peroxide
        0.125% (v/v)

        OR

        Final concentrations:
        • Isopropyl alcohol 75% (v/v),
        • Glycerol 1.45% (v/v),
        • Hydrogen peroxide
        0.125% (v/v)

      • +5

        https://www.tga.gov.au/hand-sanitisers-and-covid-19

The final formulation of the hand sanitiser must contain only the following ingredients:

        EITHER ethanol 80% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade or food standard grade) OR isopropyl alcohol 75% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade) in an aqueous solution;
        sterile distilled water or boiled cold water;
        glycerol 1.45% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade);
hydrogen peroxide 0.125% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade); and
does not contain any other active or inactive ingredients, including colours, fragrances or emollients.

The OP has used the wrong formulation. Should have used 75% isopropyl alcohol and not 75% ethanol.

        • maybe that's why its so (relatively) cheap - ethanol is cheaper to buy than isopropyl alcohol

          • @Maglia Nera: But only needed to go to 80% with less water

        • perhaps they can offer to bump it up to 80%

          • +2

@cyrax83: Do you trust a manufacturer who can't get the basics (chemistry, reading and comprehension) right? If this was a Chinese company I think everyone will be outraged…just goes to prove "Made in Australia" is not a guarantee of quality and reliability either.

            • +2

@assailantsky: Can't be too harsh on them - they are a supplements company trying to shift into something to stay afloat. They don't make sanitiser by trade.

              • +2

@cyrax83: I didn't downvote you, but I don't think I'm being that harsh. Making hand sanitisers are quite easy compared to making supplements (solution vs powder), now I would be quite suspicious of their supplements if they can get the basics so wrong.
