    vs optimum?

ON Gold standard whey? Both are good. Key differences as follows:

      • ON GSW is a blend - isolate and concentrate and whey peptides (in that order), whereas ours is straight whey protein isolate.
      • ON GSW is a global brand, we are only based in Australia.
      • ON GSW has a wider range of flavours, we only have these 5 options currently.
      • ON GSW uses soy lecithin, we use sunflower lecithin
      • ON GSW per serve is 24g protein / 3g carb / 1g fat. Ours is 26.5g protein / 0.4g carb / 0.3g fat
      • ON GSW uses Acesulfame Potassium, we use stevia
      • ON GSW has Aminogen, we do not use any digestive enzymes

Optimum is a great brand and it's a brand we support heavily. Obviously I'm a strong believer in our own product too!

      Hope this helps.

  • Silly question time. I have a few KG of Scitec Nutrition 100% whey remaining and I'm not using it enough because it's way too sweet for me to drink. Nothing wrong with the Scitec but I don't like things sweet.

If I buy the unsweetened Amino Z, can I mix them to reduce the sweetness?

    • Don't know if that's a silly question…it's got me thinking. It will reduce the sweetness definitely, however the flavour will also be less intense. You'll get more of a whey flavour (it has a milky taste, but relatively pleasant overall). Really the other option is just to add more water and dilute the Scitec a bit more, but then it would be quite watery.

      Hope this helps.

  • How would this compare with the WPI from VPA?
I've had other whey protein isolates before and some of them give me a pretty bad bloated feeling since i've got problems with lactose digestion. VPA has been good for me so far, but this price is very good! Thanks!

    • I can't say I'm too familiar with the VPA product, however I've taken a quick look. The macronutrients vary slightly per serve (doesn't seem to be a huge difference). It also looks like VPA use sucralose and we use stevia.

Not cheaper than the equivalent Myprotein/BN black friday 50% off deal. That's a nup from me.

    • All good. There are likely some product differences between the products - we designed ours to be different by being all-natural, soy-free and Australian made (though as per my understanding, BN is also Aussie made). But if these differences don't bother you then although I haven't personally tried these other products, I'm sure they are also good!

      • Jay
    • where is that promo?

    • Myprotein is an overseas company though, spend your dollar here and support Aussie jobs!

  • +1

Why are these so expensive? I can get premium Whey Isolate from UProtein for $29.75p/kg when buying 4kg on normal pricing. I dont really count store credit as a saving so this is just $30p/kg?

    • +3

We don't opt for the cheapest raw materials and we pay a premium for our natural flavouring, stevia, organic cocoa (in the chocolate), sunflower lecithin and the WPI itself. While I cannot comment on other brands, ours is ultimately a different product. Realistically we will never be the cheapest WPI around. Hope this clarifies things!

"May help to boost muscle growth"??? Doesn't sound to confident. I thought it was it's primary function?

    • +7

Not necessarily. Say for example if you're not training and you consume a whey protein, this won't help with muscle growth. A consistent and well-rounded approach is imperative to muscle growth. Protein powder can certainly help with that :)

Whats long term effect if you consume WPI but do not exercise?

        • Well WPI is a milk derived protein and is considered a food, it's effectively just a processed food. As with any food, if you consume too much of anything it won't be good for you.

Lots of people consume WPI without exercising. Just like with any food, you don't need to exercise in order to consume it. Many people may consume WPI if they don't get sufficient protein in their diet through food sources, so it can be an effective tool to compliment a balanced diet. It is also used as a way to reduce caloric intake (for instance, instead of consuming a high calorie snack, you consume a protein shake instead).

  • Are you able to comment on the taste of the chocolate? Have you tried optimum nutrition extreme milk chocolate whey as a comparison? Thinking of giving it a whirl as it is more protein heavy. Does it also contain BCAA's?

    • +1

Yep I've tried the ON one. Personally I like both. Ours is not overly sweet and a good chocolate taste. Because taste is so subjective, if you don't like it we do have the money back guarantee I mentioned above.

BCAA's - yes it does. We don't have the breakdown of BCAA's published. However all standard whey proteins will have BCAA's in it. It's not fortified with BCAA's, but I'm not familiar with any whey powders that actually are off the top of my head.

      • Jay
      • I don't really have a sweet tooth just went with extreme milk chocolate as most people suggested it tasted good. I think I will give this a try, cheers for the response. Always good to support local companies too. A money-back guarantee just makes it all the more worth.

        • Okay great thanks for the support!

          • Jay
    • The flavor is definitely less intense and not as sweet as the ON. Depends what you like, but i ended up switching from ON to this a while ago and haven't considered buying ON again.

Only negative is that it only comes in 1kg bags.

      • Thanks for the feedback on the 1kg bags. We're working on that one so we can save on unnecessary packaging.

        • Jay
    • I just opened a bag of the chocolate this week and it tastes fine. I usually get the BN chocolate which I also like but this one was a bit cheaper at the time. I would describe the AZ one as more 'choclaty' in taste than the BN but not in an overly sweet way, more 'natural' if that makes sense? It's quite nice and I think I'll get this deal as well…..dammit Jay you could have run it last week….. :)

      • Haha! Hey thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it. This chocolate is actually our third iteration of the flavour because we weren't happy with the first two lots that we originally put out into the market following mixed customer reviews. This new version that we released earlier in the year is being really well received and we're sticking with it.

  • Hi Jay

Are you able to confirm the source of the whey please? Is this 100% Australian whey? How about the other ingredients? Is this product made in Australia using 100% Australian ingredients?

    • +1

Thanks for the question. No these ingredients are imported, but we manufacture in Australia. The whey, lecithin and flavouring is from the USA. Organic cocoa (in chocolate) is from the Netherlands.

      • Jay
  • Hi Jay,

How would you describe your Strawberry and Banana flavours in comparison to Bulk Nutrients or ON's Gold Standard?

I find BN's Strawberry and Banana flavours to be too artificial and taste a lot like lollies. Whereas ON's is a bit softer and probably more like the real thing (albeit, still artificial).

    Where would yours sit?

    Cheers

    • +1

Hi Lawagetas. I can't comment on BN's since I haven't tried it. I have tried ON - both of the ON flavours are very good. We avoid the candy-type flavour as many US-based proteins have and ours is more of a natural taste. I'm unsure if this is what you are describing with BN's proteins, but certainly has been my experience with a number of protein powders. Also we don't go for an overly strong level of taste or sweetness. Hope this is of help, taste is often such a hard thing to describe being so subjective.

      • Jay
      • Thanks Jay
Yeah taste is a bit of a tricky one.
Didn't want to waste your time and use your returns if I outright wouldn't like it - but I'll give it a try!
        Cheers

        • All good, while I doubt you'll need to as it is our top seller, the option is there for you. Thanks for giving it a go!

          • Jay
  • Ordered a Chocolate and Vanilla. I have been looking for something without artificial sweeteners (I can somehow taste the artificial sweeteners and don't like them). Can't wait to try them out.

    • Nice thanks for the order and support agentsmith1999! Keen to hear how they go.

      • Jay
  • hey Jay, I just got myself 3Kg a few days ago then then you post this deal!

    • Ahh nuts. This is the problem when we run deals. Did you at least get it during the Black Weekend promo?

FYI it's unlikely that we will be running anything like this again any time soon. Dates are long if you wanted to take advantage though.

      • Jay
  • 2Kg sold out? Option available for 10/1/3/5Kg only.

Edit : Outch got it. need to choose 2 * 1Kg.

    • Yep you're correct. Just add 2 (or more) of the 1kg versions, and it can be different flavours.

      • Jay
  • Any more flavours in the pipeline? :D

    • +1

We sure do :) We have a couple that have been finalised and will released probably within the next couple of months (it's a loooong process…these have been in development for about six months now!). I'm very excited, they taste great.
