@leexm101
I suggest you actually look at a detailed comparison between the old 42009 Mobile Crane MKII and its modern successor the 42082 Rough Terrain Crane, rather than just clinging blindly to nostalgia.
They are extremely similiar and the Rough Terrain Crane is noticeably longer, wider, taller with the boom/crane extended and has smoother motor actuation for its powered functions. I would also argue it's the better-looking and far more detailed model of the two, as the old canary yellow colour scheme of older industrial Technic sets looks rather dated nowadays.
Lego is still designing Technic sets just as complex and intricate as those renowned flagship Technic sets of old.
I think the rose tint on your glasses is a little too dark.
Not sure if you're serious. The biggest Technic sets of today are much more complex than the biggest sets of my childhood. They still have plenty of kid-appropriate Technic sets though, as they should.
Yeah I think he hasn't actually bought a Technic set in several decades.
Look at the Bucket Wheel Excavator, Rough Terrain Crane, 6x6 All-Terrain Tow Truck or the newer Liebherr R 9800; flagship Technic models have never been more complicated.
Hell, just building the Rough Terrain Crane took me 3 attempts (meaning several partial tear-downs and rebuilds) because of the fiendishly complicated gearbox and drivetrain and the rather inadequate instruction manual diagrams you had to work with.
I think Lego is being incredibly generous recommending most of those models to ages 11 and up.
11 year old me never knew what a limited-slip differential was or why it was so important than they're aligned in the right orientation.
Haha yes. I'm so not a fan of having to backtrack because something was unclear in Technic instructions.
Dang… Feel the wrath of Lego technic fans haha you shoulda known better man this is OzB
Similarly, and posting here because of very limited availabilty (from my quick postcode searches anyway) is the Compact Crawler Crane 42097 from Big W for $89 (if you are lucky enough to find stock)…

Got that one with this : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/524777

This is the same price as target. Free delivery too
Buy from target to support local business
This is not available at target
Target is useless and their website is a pile of crap.
After finally submitting an order on the Bugatti Chiron after 3 hours battling the website they cancelled my order because I used an Outlook email address and customer support couldn't do squat for me.
I'm steering clear of them in future.
What is it with LEGO Technic and cranes, so many different cranes.
I know right! What's with Lego and cars, so many cars..its been done to death. Totally agree mate.
Got to love the description for the specs, Numbers of Pieces 8
ordered from Target.

Better Engineering in this Land Rover Defender than the actual car.
