  • For Dell monitor 15% discount is quite common.
Plus you only get one year warranty if you purchase @ DFO
You get 3 yrs standard when purchase from Dell website.

Or you could get a 24" Acer LED monitor for around $160 from any number of outlets. Half the response time, half the power usage and still a 3 year warranty. The Cnet review isn't very flattering about the capabilities of the Dell panel either.

      This is an IPS panel.

      • I wish I knew what that meant.

        • +2

If it's a full IPS then it means that it has real 24bit colour. No dithering. I believe the viewing angles may also be better.

        • Yup better colour reproduction and wider viewing angles.

Morons that post comments like that obviously have no idea, irrelevant of what he read on Cnet they are better than normal TN LCDs…..

        • I have three of these monitors and once you get used to using an IPS panel it makes normal TN panels look pretty faded and horrible… My experience with these monitors has been nothing but great, and they are especially good for putting in portrait mode for coding thanks to the fact they can pivot and IPS panels get the same great viewing angles in both portrait and landscape.

  • yes, the U2312HM at $228 may be a better choice

  • Was loooking to get a dell laptop, wondered if there's anything wrong with laptops listed under the DELL outlet???
It says new but it's around 50% off the same laptop they are selling on the normal dell site???

I've bought several laptops from DFO and had no problem. You just need to be patient to wait for the right config.

I would say it's more like 30% off the normal online price. The best Dell specials will be comparable but only occur a few times a year.

Be aware you can make no changes to the config, not even to extend the warranty. You can however extend it after buying it but that is more expensive than getting a longer warranty in the first place.

DFO does have advantage of faster delivery than normal online purchase, typically 3 days.

In regard to the U2311 monitor, I bought this from DFO early this year for $209, so it does not make sense that price is now higher. Better to wait for another online deal and get the 3yrs warranty included.

      • thanks spockter, would I be able to use Moneybackco for buying off DELL DFO??

        • No. There are no additional discounts. You ring the number on the DFO page and quote the bundle number. They then contact the warehouse and check it is still available and get back to you. If it is not available anymore, they might suggest an alternative but be careful that it still the spec and price you want.

Be careful when buying from the Dell DFO - all the items I have purchased through there claim the condition as "New" however I think they are mainly customer returns.

      1. Purchased a "New" Precision T3500 - boxed was beat up had an address label for a different company, motherboard was faulty from day 1.
      2. Purchased a "New" Vostro Laptop - once again had a label for a different company that was crossed out, the laptop had a couple minor marks on the inside, the power adapter had clearly been used.

I'm not sure of other people's experiences - prices are good however don't expect 100% "new" items from there.

      • gee…so i guess i should hold off buying from them then… :(

      • It cuts the other way also.

I bought a latitude "new" from DFO a number of years ago, sure enough it came with a crossed out address sticker and my new one ontop of it, but it also came with a bunch of extras that the original buyer must have selected, namely an extra battery and an extra charger.

There wasn't any mention of these on the outlet page, so it was quite a bonus =)

I'm still using that laptop, 6 years on. Tough little things those latitudes are.

  • does anybody remember the recent DELL XPS deal (30% off XPS 15" and 17")? how much was the cheapest config for XPS 17?? (ie. with i7 2630QM, 6GB RAM, DVD, 1GB GT 555M)

  • Don't go with the newer model - it's crap. I'd happily trade in my U2312 for the U2311

    • Yea, I just did a quick search. Apparently the U2312HM has crap contrast compared to the U2311H - blacks that appear black on the older model show up as grey on the newer one.

Also, crap - I have 2x U2311H's and been meaning to buy a 3rd to replace my old 3rd monitor (samsung)… now where am I going to get one (aside from this deal which seems dubious if they're selling returned goods)

  • People go for the 2311, much better. i bought 2 when they were 222 matched from HT, so this is a good price. And those worrying about buying from DFO, dont be. I have never had any problems with Dell's return/exchange process so if you are not happy, tell them and they will send out a new one.

I remember when I bought my 2405, I noticed a problem with it (banding when using component input). they sent out a new one within a couple days, which had the same problem, which I complained about again, and by that time the 2407 had come out so they then sent that out out as a third monitor. For over 2 months I had a 3 monitor setup for free while I waited for Dell to send out a courier to pickup the other 2 :)

  • What are the odds of getting a sub $300 24 inch ips anytime soon?

  • U2312HM is currently $50 off from Dell, with 7.00% moneyback via MoneyBackCo, you can get it for about $200 shipped
