Is it international battery week or something? How many battery deals have we had this week?

    • +17

My mistake. Going by the negative votes it is clearly "international lose your sense of humour week"

        • +1

But isn't that how public opinion works? You are bound to get negs when the majority doesn't agree with you.

        • Negs on posts mean sweet f*** all. Let the keyboard warriors neg your posts to their hearts content and just have a good chuckle at how sad they are that you've annoyed them so :)

      • +5

That's my point. You can't voice your opinion here without being negged if your opinion is considered 'wrong'. For instance, I posted on a previous thread about referring to the Law rather than just posting random nonsense because people were upset and I got negged. I guess I'm expecting too much of this voting system.

        • +5

Come on guys, let's focus on the charger. :-)

        • +6

Agreed. I spend way too much time ranting on OzB so I'll just shut up :).

        • +6

i come for the bargains but read for the rants - they're free

        • +1

lol we hate the kheob up the thread, but like the one down here.

        • +1

They only liked it because I said I'd shut up lol

    • +5

Jeez after being continuously "charged up" for all the battery deals, I'm now feeling a bit "drained"

      • +33

if you get too amped, you get exhausted quickly, and your capacity to do the bargain circuit gets depleted. this can turn a positive experience into a negative one when you miss a bargain. although, a can of V can help!

just like they say in those NiCads: it's of primary importance to keep your ion the prize, cause once something gets ozbargained, it's likely to cell out!

  • Bought this from them the other day when the Dick Smith Eneloop deal first came up.
Amazon shipped it the next day.

  • +1

do you just need a straight through plug adaptor to run this? Does the AC adaptor accept 240V?

    • +2

I think you need a plug adaptor, which can be got from the $2 shops, I believe the input voltage is 110~240V

    • If the AC adapter is the same as the one on my BC-900, you can carefully bend the two prongs so they'll fit into Australian sockets. Much more secure than wonky adapters, just don't blame me if you break it.

  • I wanted to get a Maha MH-C9000 from Amazon but they wouldn't ship to Australia. I wonder why they do this?

    • +1

The seller of Maha MH-C9000 is not Amazon, it is just fulfilled by Amazon

    • +1

Maha has a local distributor, that's why Amazon won't ship. They're supporting a monopoly.

I went onto eBay and purchased a Maha Powerex MH-C9000 shipped for about AU$70 direct from a US supplier with first class postage, complete with power adapter for Australia. Local eBay sellers selling through the official distributor charged at least $20 more. The US sellers had dozens of sales (AU model) while the local sellers had just a couple.

      • I did exactly the same earlier this year. Cost me about $70, although I do have to use a wall-plug adaptor. Its a bit ridiculous that Maha lets a local distributor charge so much.

I didn't buy the La Crosse at the time because of technical differences and it was withdrawn from sale on Amazon due to unit failures.

  • Anyone know how many you can buy and keep the shipping ~$10?
Maybe we could so some small buying groups and save…

    EDIT:
Seems you can get 3 for $13 shipping.

  • Nevermind. :)

  • +2

top charger, i got one 2 days ago, in Australia it seems you either get a cheap 'n nasty charger which ruins batteries quickly or an expensive lab grade charger, this fills the gap perfectly! note the normal price is $US49.95 so it's down to US$27.49, plus $US10.98 shipping, it's US$9.99 plus some weight charge of US$1.49/pound which i didn't pay after i chatted with a rep about it :)
if you're wondering why you should get this instead of some cheap yum cha ebay charger, this has variable charge rates, full restore modes, shows actual capacity etc perfect charging for the perfect Eneloop batteries so they'll last a lifetime

  • I already have the maha version of this one. I'd say they're roughly equivalent so this price is good. My next charger, when I become rich and famous, shall be http://www.mahaenergy.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=408

  • Great charger, I have the similar BC-9009 Battery Charger, seems to be roughly the same but for $41.27USD you also get a travel bag, 4x AA + 4x AAA NiMH & C/D adapters. I found the bag really handy to store all my battery stuff together. Would highly recommend.

    • Where did you buy the BC-9009 From? It seems like Amazon will ship the BC-700 to Australia, but not the BC-9009 or BC-1000

      • Yeah just found this out too. Strange though because one of the seller's on Amazon is listed with international shipping rates, but as soon as you try to get a shipping/total order amount using that seller, it stops and says they can't ship to that address.

      • They will ship the BC-1000, try this link:

        http://amzn.com/B004J6DLD4

        • Agree, just not the BC-9009 as its via Smarthome and not Amazon sales. Don't know if I can justify the price jump to the BC-1000 though.

      • Didn't notice that. I bought it back in January, came direct from Amazon. Looks like it's only 3rd parties stocking it now, no Amazon stock :(
You might have luck with the "show everyone who sells it through Amazon" link, but combined with shipping & the fact most 3rd parties either don't international ship or it's crazy expensive to ship, I doubt it.

Excellent charger. Have a paper clip handy to jump start "dead" batteries. Sometimes you'll put a shitty battery in and it doesn't detect it so you just have to bridge the positive terminals of the "dead" battery and another.

    • Wish I knew this trick before, I used a dumb charger to jump start then would switch it. While doing that Accidentally plugged the wrong power pack into my bc900 and fried it

  • +1

    thanks op

  • This is pretty much the regular Amazon price… Good charger though.

  • +1

This is awesome! I've been wanting to get this, but couldnt find one on amazon that would ship to Aus..

What about Maha.. anyone know where to get a cheap Maha MH-C9000?

    • thomas distributing will ship to Australia, (average) shipping cost is not too bad once you go crazy and buy a whole heap of batteries at the same time.

      • Thanks, but when I looked at Thomas Distributing, it was quite expensive.. For that price, I can buy it in Aus.. free shipping/pickup for aud69

  • I got one of these chargers at the start of this year from Amazon (not quite this cheaply) and they're really quite amazing. imo, the best value for money charger one can buy.

  • Great deal I have been looking for a decent charger, 1 really need a 12 way for eneloops for my 2 x battery gripsbut at this price I can grab 3.

    • Can you contact me via my profile??

  • Seems like the true OzBargainer charger :-D

  • +2

A bit off topic but I have had a rezap battery charger for a number of years which I use to recharge alkaline battery's would this work ok for the eneloop's?

    • -2

would certainly fry your eneloops, which are nominal 1.2V compared to 1.5V for alkalines

      • the rezap also charges Ni-Cad and NiMH batteries amongst others.

        • Hi ausbob71,

I jumped on the rechargeable batteries bandwagon and have been using my rezap for the last 3 years (at least), I have recharged Energizer and Duracell alkalines plus various others.

And of course Ni-Cad and NiMH batteries from Eneloops, Duracell, GP and various others from DX.

No issues with any of them.

It has saved me money in the long run from buying standard batteries.

          Cheers.

Edit: I would stay with the rezap since it is still working, an Aussie company, can also detect dead batteries and recharge alkis UP TO 15 times. I managed to recharge some Energizer alkalines 12 times before having to dispose of them.

    • I've been using the ReZap on eneloops for years, with no issues.

  • Just grab this charger with additional 8 pack AA Eneloop for AUD 60.26
    Hope that still bargain..

  • It stated 1 left in stock so I purchased it. Now site says "In stock but may require an extra 1-2 days to process".

  • I'm thinking about purchasing this but I don't see the point personally. What are people mainly using the batteries for? I just have my mouse and my torches.

    • +2

wii remotes, kids toys, digital cameras, other remotes, keyboards

for me it is mainly kids toys that make sounds/lights

  • whats the advantage of this charger over a DSE one i already have?

    • I do not know what charger you have however if it is a cheap one then it will just put voltage into the batteries for a period of time until it think they are all full.

This charger will charger each battery individually until it is full.

You can also discharge your batteries until they are flat, doing this can help make the batteries last longer and prevent the memory effect.

And it can also test your batteries to show how good their health is.

  • Are we able to leave the batteries in the charger 24/7 until they are ready to be used? I don't like to have batteries just lying around as they can drain on their own. I want the battery to be at 100% when I need it. I know this charger prevents over charging, but is it an issue to keep the batteries in the charger for months until needed?

    • I wouldn't leave batteries on charge indefinately, but I don't know for sure if it's dangerous or damages the batteries. I've converted to LSD batteries such as Sanyo Eneloop and I now have no problems with batteries being flat when I want to use them. I think everyone who's ever tried the Eneloops would agree that they're fantastic.

      • I bought the Eneloop's from the last deal, just waiting for them to arrive. But I was thinking of doing the same with them once they go flat. I just want to have a charging station in the house that always has batteries so you don't have to search the house looking for batteries when you need them.

        • I just want to have a charging station in the house that always has batteries so you don't have to search the house looking for batteries when you need them.

Once the batteries have charged place them into a cup or container.
Use that container to only keep fully charged batteries

  • NO no and no.
The one thing that definitely damages rechargeable NiMh batteries is overcharging.
They heat when the charge and the electrolyte boils off. Result knackered batteries.

You are far better off undercharging than overcharging them as they have no memory effect.

Once again: its OVER charging that kills batteries.
    That is all.

  • Amazon says the BC-700 can't be shipped to Australia…am I missing something here..(Note: It has been a long day)

    • Amazon says
      In Stock.
Ships from and sold by ANTOnline.

So amazon may have sold out which is why you cant get it sent here as ANTOnline might not send things to Australia

    • There were some that shipped from Amazon directly, they shipped to aus. This one doesn't ship to aus

  • Thanks excite :)

I've got mine now and it's looking good (I'm refreshing some old batteries now) :)

    • The instructions said that it won't charge bad batteries, which got my hopes down.

But I've now brought back a number of bad AAA batteries (ie GP charger said they are junked) from < 90 mAh to around 480-515 mAh :)

      • +1

also check out the paperclip trick mentioned earlier in the thread for dead batteries

        • Thanks. So that'd be creating a parallel circuit for charging, to get a completely dead cell going?

(memories of short circuiting something at school, by accident, haunt me :P)

        • I thought the instructions said to make sure it isn't plugged into the wall when you do it :)

        • no idea tell you the truth, i havent tried it yet

      • I thought the instructions said to make sure it isn't plugged into the wall when you do it :)

It will need to be plugged in for it to work.

What the paper clip is doing is bringing some voltage from the good battery across to the bad battery so the charger does not see a bad battery rather it sees 2 good batteries.

The charger will then charge both batteries.

You do not leave the paper clip there, you can remove it once the charger starts to charge.
If the charger stops charging the battery as soon as you remove the paper clip you will need to leave it there long enough to bring the battery up to a charge where the charger will want to charge it.

        • Oh, I didn't do the paper clip trick.

I have an old charger that doesn't check on battery condition and used that for a half a minute instead.

However the 2 batteries I had to fix, turned out to fill up at 145 mAh and 4 mAh. The latter is definitely being retired and I'm not sure about the former :P

    • +1

you are welcome, and glad to know that you brought back dead batteries :)

  • these are back in stock from amazon and shipping to australia,
unfourtunately our exchange rate has nose dived ;)
