    Good deal. Thanks!

    • Varta NimH Battery Charger Pack
    • Ideal for use in charging rechargeable NiMh batteries which can be used for MP3s, Digital Caneras and many other Electrical devises.
    • Compact Varta Yellow rechargeable Plug In Charger complete with 2xAA 2100mAh and 2xAAA 800 mAh NiMH Batteries.
    • Charges 2xAA 2100 mAh Batteries in 10 to 11 Hours
    • Charges 2xAAA 800 mAh Batteries in 8 to 9 hours.
    • Batteries can be recharged up to 1000 Times.
    • No Memory effect
    • No overcharging
    • Maybe not. I'd assumed that Varta was faster than using a regular charger — the charge times (8-11 hours) are slow!

      • Charging times are a function of the charging current and the battery capacity.

So a "regular" charger will be faster if the battery capacity is lower.

From the figures given the Varta is charging at 200 mA. As the batteries are 2100mAh then its time is 10 hours

Faster charging creates more heat, and heat is the enemy of a battery. 200mA is considered a safe charging time with very low heat generation, and is the most recommended for battery longevity.

  • One of the smallfish on today's COTD is a better deal …

    • i beg to differ, $16.90 is not a much better deal, i was tempted until i saw the shipping price.

  • Officeworks had 4 Varta AA 2500 mah batteries for $9.95 last week - may still be available.

Even though latest batteries are 2500 mah (or more) - still very good value - and can charge 4 batteries at a time (2 on the front and 2 on back side)

PS Just bought one and the charger is rated at 160-185 ma - I think the charge time should be closer to around 14 - 16 hours.

    • OW price is $14.99 now on Varta Ready2Use AA Batteries pk/4 Product No. VA06412404

      Cheers,

  • Picked up two today - charging merrily away as I type. Very happy with the deal. Now to keep my eye out for deals on batteries. I need at least 4 ea more AA & AAA. Will check out OW as NeuBauer suggested. Noticed in Jaycar today that they carry a wide range of rechargeables.

    Cheers,
Live Long and Amp(ere) It Up. (Sorry, that was re-Volt-ing wasn't it? I do have the Capacity for a bad pun, and have been known to be Reactive. Might do some yoga now - Ohm, Ohm, Ohm. Oh well, just call me Henry Faraday. I get no kicks from the mains; 240 Volts doesn't thrill me at all…)

    • teaearlgrey:

My varta rechargeables seem to have some charge already?

Do these batteries come fully charged or need to be charged first?!

      • always best to charge them up before use.

      • Now John, does Sarah know that you're playing with electricity???
To be honest, I didn't check if the cells where pre-charged, and they indicated to be charging for the 10+ hours predicted in the accompanying blurb. I'd be surprised if they hadn't been pre-charged at manufacture/packaging, but as stated by OzPete, you'd always fully charge them b4 use anyway.

        Cheers,
Live Long and be Ever Ready.
