As a mechanic there your told to quote front and rear suspension on every car that has over 60,000km. Cars in new car warranty, cars with no problems. They claim it's essential to anyone that isn't mechanical minded.

As a mechanic I always used tyresales .com or eBay as they were always near the workshops buy in price.
Thanks for the insider info :) Many years ago, one of my Pedders struts snapped and I went to a mechanic and they said they have to replace the whole set of coilovers instead of just replacing a strut (Only purchased 3 years prior but couldnt get the parts any longer…). Do you think that was a true story or could they have got just a part or just lets say the front two instead of all 4?
It depends. Maybe it's time to replace all 4 for your car?
As if it's possible or not, yes it's possible to replace the struts only and reuse the old springs but it would take more work to do that (if the mechanics don't have the equipment) and hence might cost more than the coilovers.
P/S: I'm not a mechanic but did replace the struts myself. Talking out the springs and put it back (without a proper spring compressor) is a pain in the a$$ to save 2xx$. Next time I would replace the whole thing.
Can you take the car you want to purchase to get the free inspection? They can point out thing not necessary to fix and up sell what need to be fixed, then I can use it as weapon to bring the car price down. All this is FREE
