Have seen these in real life and was very impressed with the quality and finally found a coupon code that still works.

Hopefully this is useful to someone else out there

I bought from these guys before and the shirts are real top quality stuff.

Hawes & Curtis are far from top quality (average fabrics, plastic rather than mother of pearl buttons, no hand stitching, Made in Turkey), but they do represent OK value for money, particularly at this price.

(Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine to see marketers describe products as "top quality" when they clearly aren't.)

      • I agree that they are far from top quality, especially compared to other UK brands such as Pink. I had a shirt from them and it was average. They are on par with TM Lewin etc in the UK. You can always get 4 or 5 shirts for 100gbp on the high street. However, they are way better than most stuff you get here and a lot cheaper. That is why I think this is a good buy- especially as it is delivered.

      • Top Quality in reference to 99% of the shirts you can buy here in OZ is a correct comment. Top Quality compared to the rest of the world is a different story.

These shirts are easily 10x better quality then all the stuff from Man to Man, Roger David etc. definitely worth $33 delivered.

Only 28 years out of date, as that a new record?

I'm digging the hall & Oates era can't wait for the 90s to hit!

      Hahaha fixed. Thanks :)

  • I used to buy from them in London - Top Quality Gear!

  • Wearing one now. Good shirts.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. Tempted to get mine but need to make sure I get the measurements correct….

  • I just bought 3. I was tempted to get 6!!

  • Got 3 too. Thanks :o)

  • so are these comparable to Charles Tyrwhitt?
    http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/
They've got 4 for 100pounds and they will take off the vat.

    • +1

Yes comparable and the same quality.

    • so do you know how much for each after delivery (8.95 pound) and take off vat ? (to australia)
if they come to the same price, i prefer charles's

    • CT do not take off the VAT anymore (unless they reversed that change from 2 months ago). TMLewin still remove VAT.

  • Anyone know about the comparable sizing? I do not want to get something that will be too tight.

  • Yeah all shirts seem to have different shapes/cuts. Bit hard to know if these will feel right without trying the on. I normally pay anywhere from 60-150 for a shirt but a few months ago I got some at Lowes. They were about 35 bucks each so I picked three up and they're just as good as the more expensive ones I buy. Bargain!

  • I got one the other day. Went in with a mate for some. They were ok. Nothing to write home about imo. I still prefer just picking up the bargains at the stores when they are throwing out Aberlards and Geoff Beens and things for $50-70

  • +1

They are very good quality for the price. Much better than what you can buy locally in the same price range.

They can be a little heavy in summer

One plus that I like is that they come with removable collar stiffeners meaning that you will always get a straight collar, i haven't seen shirts at this price with this included.

Watch out for the french cuffs as they tend to curl on their shirts, I own 8-9 and they have all started to curl.

I don't shop there anymore since I travel to China regularly and now have them tailor made for the same price.

In terms of quality this is the order: (my subjective view)

    Kiton
    Charvet
Barba, Finamore,Truzzi,Eton,Borrelli,Fray, donnanna, RLPL (all roughly equal???)
    Turnbull and Asser
    Hilditch and Key
    Harvie and Hudson
    Brooks Brothers
    Charles Thrwhitt
    TM Lewin
    Abelard?
    Hawes and Curtis
    <then a big gap>
<most stuff in oz including van heusen>

    • … good info…. and i thought brooks bro was already very good.

    • How do these compare to Oxford Shop and Rhodes & Beckett here?

Do the have the slim fits of Oxford Shop and Rhodes & Beckett and how do they compare?

      • +1

How bout comparison with Ben Sherman as well?

    • Seems about right.. I would probably group together CT down through Hawes, those four are all more or less the same.

"most stuff in oz" is a little harsh… I think it may apply to the likes of Van Heusen, Oxford and Ben Sherman.. But brands like Rhodes and Beckett, Declic and Herringbone are in a different league, much better quality.. I'd put them above CT or higher.

  • Does anyone have any experience with Dalvey shirts? They have sale coming up on their webiste, 3 x shirts for $195 USD, usually $107 USD each.

I ask as the measurements seem like a true slim fit, whislt all they other british based businesses still make their slim fit shirts far to blousey.

  • How much to shirt fits vary between brands? If I go and try on a Van Heusen or something at Myer and order the same size, will I get something roughly correct?

If not, can anyone recommend a brand with a similar fit to here that I could try before I buy over the net?

    • +1

measure yourself and use the size guide, that's what they are there for, very easy and you only have to do it once. Link is in my post above.

    • Collar and Sleeve length is very easy to measure and see what you are. It is the type of fit that you need to look at. There's Classic Fit, European Fit, and Slim Fit. Classic being the most wide across the chest/waist, Euro mid and Slim the most narrow.

  • How do these shirts compare to Rhodes and Becketts?

Also - what about sizing? If I'm a 41 slim in a R&B shirt, is it the same with all these fancy shirts or is it different much like all other clothing?

Miss getting my clothes tailored in Hong Kong… $40 for an awesome quality shirt (Janzen tailor in Central, Power Company in Wan Chai).

    • Saw link for virtual tailor. Would still like to hear any quality comparisons between R&B.

    • Funny you should mention The Power Company in Wan Chai. I got some suits and shirts made there on a couple of trips through Honkers. Didn't think much of the shirts, I'm afraid. They didn't stand the test of time too well. The suits on the other hand were pretty good. Still wear them.

  • Fantastic deal. Just bought 6 shirts. A guy at work is kicking himself after having bought five "tailored" shirts for $500 last week.

Would never buy shirts off the net no matter the price.

Unless you can try them on you are throwing money into the bin! … as the chance it will fit well is all most zero.

A few facts to clarify some of the comments written about H&C. Firstly, the shirts are made in Turkey in their own factories. This allows a very high standard to be maintained. The shirts are made in 2 ply 100's cotton, which is a high grade luxury quality cotton. The fabrics vary as you have twills, end on end, poplin (best for summer), herringbone twill (best for winter) and the ladies range have some with 3% Stretch. Most UK shirts are manufactured in China, Bangladesh or Vietnam, which can produce to high standards. Not one of the shirt brands listed on this forum hand stitches their shirts, even shirts that cost over £80 each are not hand stitched anymore.
Hawes and Curtis have a 3 month returns policy, so if you don't like the shirts just return them. If you want a replacement they will send out the exchange free of charge. (Once) Delivery is very quick.
The website has a robotic mannequin so you can put your measurements in and see how it will fit. This makes the decision that little bit safer. Hawes and Curtis have slim, tailored and classic fit shirts as well as shirts for the big and tall builds.
VAT is removed at the checkout for NZ and Australian orders. 20% discount.
You pay in UK pounds. This is great with the exchange rate as it currently stands. It is actually cheaper than having them delivered in the UK.

  • hmm im 164cm slim, i think the S size is still to long for me (the sleeve / arm part) if someone wear S, how tall are you?

  • COSMO code still worked for me today (25/9/2011), and they're still doing 3 for 1. Yay!
