Crucial P1 is good but it gets very hot so would recommend a heatsink if you get one. Prices must have gone up though I got my P1 for $148 delivered back in Oct '19

    • I believe P1 is QLC

      • QLC?

        • +2

          Yeah, I believe it is.

        • Quad level . Theoretically lower MTBF and slower . For normal desktop use it will last a very long time and is very quick .

I hape a P1 1TB. It is indeed QLC, but note that for regular day-to-day use it basically feels the same as faster ones.

For most people, even when gaming, this is more than enough, simply because the sequential read / write speeds that are advertised are never the type of data most people actually deal with (unless you're a photo / video editor for example).

Durability (ie, how many write cycles it may last) is lower than the premium drives, but based on my usage (which is actually fairly regular), its not likely to be reached anytime soon. As an example, after about 1 year of use (with about 5293 hours (or 220 days) of power-on-time, I have only written a total of 9.5TB. Out of that 9.5TB, 1TB was the burn-in test that i did on the first day i received it.

The drive has a stated 100TB write life (which is one of the lowest of the main brands), but at this rate, it would take 10 years to get there. This is again from someone who used the PC fairly regularly.

Endurance on the 1TB is 200TB so you'll get 20 years out of it.

Conversely at 100TB for the 500GB, I'll reach it in just under 10 years at ~1TB/month.

        • I've seen other people share that the P1 causes stutter in games and some point to the small cache as the problem.

Have you had any similar issues?

  • +3

    wow prices really have increased.

    • Yes, I've seen this as low as $150 on Black Friday deals. I got mine for $200 one year ago, so this is still a bargain

  • would this be a good drive to use as a dedicated games drive?

    • +1

You won't get any better performance from a higher end drive, if that's what you're asking. Games rarely max out drive speeds, unless you're caching a lot due to RAM issues. In fact, for games, an SSD would mostly do fine.

The P1's write durability / lifespan is not that high, but from my experience, it'll take more than 10 years before the average person writes that much data.

  • Compared to the MX500, Is it worth getting the 2.5" Samsung Evo 1TB for $20 more at $209?

  • Which of these models would be better for my Windows C drive?

  • Price is $220, after coupon code it's $207. Did Futu price jack mid deal?

$220-15% = $187 but the little box says save $13. Maybe that doesn't change as you pick your item specs.

Also $187 at Umart but no free shipping

    • The house always wins…

Nah that $13.50 = 15% off $76.50. Add it to cart, apply the code and you'll see it'll come down to $187. eBay listings with multiple items only show the discount for the cheapest item in the "little box".

Side question, hope this is okay but a lot of people in here seem knowledgeable on ssd drives. I have one of these (1tb) and installed it in my ps4. It would work great at first but then after a while games would start crashing constantly (i think it was after the drive was at around 40% capacity). I've reinstalled a few times, formatted exfat, downloaded their software to check for errors and update firmware (showed nothing).
I've googled and googled but can't find anything on it, does anyone know if this is an sd fault, and if so what terms should i google to try and find info on this?

    • Sorry, this would be something that would be PS4 specific (or maybe specific to your SSD / model). It would be hard to say what the issue was without eliminating some options(best way is to try with another ssd / hdd to eliminate any possibility of issue with the drive).

  • I really don't know what happened to SSD prices, the 500GB is $135 with the coupon!

I know that flebay pricing hikes a bit, but it's the same price as Scorptech, PCCG, etc..

Got my 970 Evo for $128 almost two years ago and my 970 Evo Plus for $135..

  • Is this better or worse than the NVMe P1 that scorptec currently has for $195?
