  • Hmmm 30amp through a car cigarette lighter. Your braver than me!
Might be good for a laptop, but be careful about how much power you want to pull through it.

    • For laptop I think the smaller version(150w) should be enough and more easy to store since you can just put it on the cup holder.

    • Within the manual they note only to use devices up to 150W through the cigarette plug. Anything over that it says to use the jumper leads straight onto the battery.

  • Judging by the size I very much doubt that is a true 300 Watt inverter, 300Watt peak maybe.
I picked up a Ritmo 300 Watt from MSY for $28 and it works a treat I managed to run some Fluro studio lights (45W x 5) off it without as much as a flicker, charges my macbook pro 17", fast charge AA's for my flashes. its a real battery flattener so if you need more than a few minutes keep your engine running if its under full load.

Be careful with Ritmo products. Every one I've had has been terribly unreliable. For example, my Ritmo universal laptop power supply started smoking and failed after a few months of use. When I opened it I saw the shoddiest construction I have ever seen in consumer electronics.

      • yeah I picked up one for a mate to replace his 90Watt toshiba, started making a burning smell and died. The ritmo is the same design as the one sold at Jaycar but 1/2 the price. I only bought it for 1 outdoor shoot. 12 months it hasnt missed a beat

I bought one of these a while ago in hope of powering my vacuum cleaner to clean out the car (I live in an apartment building, so I cant exactly run a power lead the whole way) and it did not have enough to power it. I am telling you this in case anyone else has the same idea.

    TLDR; this does not "suck".

I hope I am wrong but most vacuum use power more than 1K unless it was a cordless or a small one.

      • nah it was a big beasty domestic one, i just hoped it would work

Appartments usually have a power socket for this purpose. Ask your building manager and he will show you. ( They mostly have a hose connection for car washing and a power point ( mostly locked) for residents use)

      • I did ask but no such luck :( its quite an old building. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I used to dumpster dive outback of DSE and there was always a few of these being chucked. I wouldn't waste my money on one considering the significant number of them being returned faulty that I saw.

That's the best consumer research method I have ever heard.. classic!

  • anyone else read the OP quickly and due to line wrapping see quick blow on the way to work :-)

or was it just me… lol

  • I saw a 600W model at Aldi for about $60 from memory, so that might be worth a look, and you can get a refund within 60 days if it's no good.
