840

Not sure if it’s all stores, but I went into the Reject shop today at Highpoint, they had 50% off all Easter eggs.
6 pack of Cadbury cream eggs was only $2
Mars egg $3.50- normally $7.00
Enjoy!

I assume that they're considering clearing all perishables, in case they have to close.

  • It is across the country Easter Chocolate sorted!

  • I went into the Reject shop today at Highpoint,

Why are you going to a shopping centre?

    • -5

You know why; entitled (profanity). I apologise to them if they're an employee

      • +15

Please remember retail staff still have to go into shopping centres and continue working while they still have jobs.

    • +1

      Why are they still open?

  • I mean like, if you were going out wouldn't it have made more sense to go to Myer and enjoy bigger discounts?
Quite honestly - I can buy a bar of chocolate from Coles/Woolies while running in for the essential milk and bread if I really need.

Going against tradition, we stopped doing Easter chocolates anyway a few years ago and instead gave small gifts. Find it's better to have something you'll use and keep rather than just getting an overload of chocolate I can't help but eat too much of.

    • +2

Myer Easter Chocolate is massively marked up anyway. This chocolate was much cheaper to begin with.

  • It's leftover from last year

Are those parallel imports? The Mars writing inside the box is that weird comic sans kinda font you don't usually see here.

    • I noticed the "treatwise" badge so I would say its Australian.

      • +1

That logo is more prolific on UK based confectionery. Most likely made for the UK market.

The creme eggs will be made in the UK too.

  • +4

Please don't go out just for cheap Easter eggs

Get TP while you're at it?

I dislike this post on so many levels.

But now also because I was forced to upvote a comment by JV !!

I dont see why without making grand assumptions.. I've been out twice in over 3 weeks now trying to do the right thing but still gotta live, no grocery deliveries possible. In my area reject shop is right next to my supermarket, i actually needed to go into it last shop because bulk buying bastards cleared woollies of a few items.

      • You went in there to buy essentials, not bargain hunting. That would seem fair and appropriate. And thank you helping us all by restricting your movement, you may not think or see how it will help. It will.

  • 40% off at Woolies will do that

    • The supermarkets won't close, so only discounts post Easter I'm guessing.

      • ?
My local woolies is doing 40% off at-least one type. Red Tulip 6 pack IIRC

        • +4

Oh Red Tulip, how far you have fallen.

I remember as a fat child, how I would love red tulip more than any chocolate in the world. It tasted special, it tasted like easter… But in the last few years, Red Tulip changed, and tastes almost as bad as compound chocolate.

          • +1

@Heaps for Cheaps: When Cadbury bought out Red Tulip they changed the recipe to use Palm Oil. Although they stopped using it in the Cadbury brand chocolate they never changed back Red Tulip. I will never forgive Cadbury for ruining my childhood favourites: Humpty Dumpty Egg for easter and Red Tulip chocolate coated peanuts for Christmas.

          • +1

            @Heaps for Cheaps: I agree 100%.

A 250g Red Tulip Elegant Rabbit would be the most indulgent Easter gift you could receive. The chocolate was super-smooth and you couldn't get that taste at any other time of the year.

I made the mistake of buying one a few years ago. Dry mouth feel, crumbly texture and generally horrible to eat. I actually double-checked the expiry date thinking it might have been old stock. I ended up throwing the rest of it out.

Apparently the current owner of the Red Tulip brand in Australia, Cadbury Australia, ditched the original recipe in 2013 as part of manufacturing cost-cutting and SKU rationalisation.

@[Deactivated]: Eggcellent description of how it has changed, spot on exactly how I felt. Talking elegant rabbits makes me think of deli cups now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbdge5-kGCY

@[Deactivated]: Ohhhh I remember those Red Tulip elegant rabbits. I'm sad to hear they have also gone the way of so much nowadays. Not that I buy much/any easter chocolate - most of it is either horrid cheap tasteless muck, or you're paying double or more just because it is egg-shaped.

        • Weekly catalogue special, not a store wide clearance of Easter eggs

So 70% off easter eggs instore at Myer was unacceptable for a lot of people, but 50% off easter eggs instore at The Reject Shop is perfectly fine? :/

    • +1

Yes. Myer generally jacks up the price before discounting.

      • +1

I think he is referring to the complaints about going out shopping at this time.

        • Yup that's exactly it.

  • Where's the Candy eggs these days? They keep forever…pure sugar.

    • They are the ones that are always the last to clear at the stores, and in the last few years I just haven't noticed them coming in at all.
