There are many, many other courses on this site apart from this one,and whilst a lot of them are free, the catch for many of them is that you must pay an "upgrade" fee to access some materials and get a certificate at completion (i noted one i was looking at was $69 to get certificate)OR join "unlimited",(around $370 / year i believe, which gives you just that…unlimited access to many courses with all certificates able to be accessed. There are degree and post grad courses here as well, but they are not included in that "unlimited" fee…their cost varies, but appear to equivalent to uni fees here).

Happy studying.

      • Great Thank you

  • what's the duration of this course?

    • 3 weeks, longer than the estimated incubation period of SARS-CoV-2, so practically useless for dealing with the current pandemic.

      • In Week 1, we will cover how COVID-19 emerged and was identified.
      • In Week 2, we will cover public health measures for COVID-19 worldwide.
      • In Week 3, we will cover what is needed to address COVID-19 in future.
      • …so practically useless for dealing with the current pandemic

Unless the current pandemic lasts longer then three weeks. I'm guessing there's a good chance.

        • In Week 1, we will cover how COVID-19 emerged and was identified.

Too late, we are deep in this sh.t already.

In Week 2, we will cover public health measures for COVID-19 worldwide.

Whether timely or too late from the governments, we are ramping up the measures. Too late to learn about them NEXT week.

In Week 3, we will cover what is needed to address COVID-19 in future.

Remember this is now week 3, and you have been showing symptoms since week 2. Too late.

On a more serious note, we don't need to deal with SARS-CoV-2 (unless it mutates) in the future because

          1. Possible availability of vaccine,
          2. Herd immunity acquired from the disease and from the vaccine, and isolation measures mean the virus will eventually run out of human hosts to propagate, and
          3. China banning the consumption of wildlife, thus reducing the frequency of cross-species transmission.

The lessons learned now will be useful for formulating policies for future pandemics, but it won't be for COVID-19.

Any assessment and exam? Do you get a pass grade if you don't catch the disease, a fail if you do, and a distinction if you catch it but don't pass it on? I wonder what grade Boris Johnson would get?

It's a difficult disease to shake… day 1- 3 mild fever, day 4 cold sweats, day 5 asymptomatic, day 6 -7 heavy chest, day 8 - 9 asymptomatic , day 10 sore throat, today - heavy chest again. It's a roller coaster ride… you think you have it beat and it comes roaring back.

Mate I wish you well - its not something to look forward to.

    • Do you mine me asking what age bracket are you in ?

      • +1

        38

        • Appears the virus is not selective in regards to age bracket.

Have to ask how are you going I realise it's not great but is there anything that we could assist with, if there is gives us a yell .

          • +2

@chrisie: I'm actually feeling pretty good.. my chest is no longer heavy.

For the most part my symptoms have been mild… 38.5 degree temp, no cough. I had one freakout moment - my first heavy chest day. i convinced myself that it was going to lead to pneumonia and put me in hosp. It didn't. I made the mistake of following the 24hr news cycle on coronavirus and the growing death toll. That shit messes with your head.

            • +1

@knackers: Keep smiling , don't forget if you need a hand just give us a yell.
              Cheers

@knackers: Amen…it certainly does.I am a nurse, and have people coughing / sneezing / spitting all over me (i work in an emergency offset clinic) and being in extremely close proximity every day.Just over a week ago i became symptomatic, went and got tested and waited…as did hubby.A few days into quarantine i became more breathless than i ever care to be again,so i ended up in hospital (in the ward set aside for this virus).I have never been so worried in all my life…i was expecting to be intubated at some point soon.
I know it is hard,i know it messes something terrible with your head (and it is getting harder to avoid the news etc),but turn that TV off, stop with the social media and get yourself into Netflix or Stan and watch something that makes you laugh (Schitt's Creek on Netflix and "Family Guy" on Stan will help mo end…trust me.I am relying on them until i get back to work soon.Take care.
PS:I was lucky and tested -ve…for now.

              • +1

@parisienne: I'm going to need the antibody test when it becomes available… I didn't meet the requirement for RNA testing, despite the fact that I presented with a fever and informed my GP that I interacted with a neighbour that arrived from Vietnam. (I shook his hand and let his sick child play with my dog…) Apparently the returning family needed to be a confirmed case.

I did the right thing and self-isolated. I know my body. I don't get a fever when infected with the various influenza strains(with the exception of my first exposure to the flu when I was a child). The only times I've experienced sustained fever like conditions is when dealing with gastrointestinal infections. And with that comes diarrhoea and vomiting. So these symptoms are unique.

My concern is for others that were refused testing… it grants them permission to go to work or to the shop.

                • @knackers: If only everyone would do the same as you and self isolate (even if in doubt…do it),then we could truly slow the spread of this thing.I know it can be boring just hanging around home, but if we are going to get this thing over and done with,we all need to do our bit.We also need to ramp up the testing to include more people…i only JUST made the cut because i was having respiratory issues that were getting more pronounced (despite the fact i am a nurse, had been in contact with many, many people of which no one knew their recent comings and goings OR contacts ,had been coughed / sneezed on etc with NO PPE on and have a hubby who also works in the hospital system).I hope you get better soon…and take care.

              • @parisienne: Hope you stay healthy forever… Godbless you :)
