That's a very good point. Depends on what the user's main requirements are. The Sony has a 1-inch image sensor shooting 15.3MP stills, which is a lot bigger than the sensor on a GoPro (1/2.3-inch sensor for 12MP). It is also capable of shooting in the S-Log2 picture profile, which may appeal to camera geeks who like to do their own post processing.
With such a wide angle lens on F4, I think Sony has made the right call to preserve battery instead of autofocus, since the depth of any shot from this will not be very shallow.
It's the same reason many front facing cameras on phones lack the auto focus as well.
So in other words. Pretty much it is always in focus
Good camera, but no continuous autofocusing may be a dealbreaker for many.
