Home Internet for Six Months Only

Hi all, hopefully someone will be able to help with home internet options.

Quick background just built a house and will be living in it for 6 months only, so can’t commit to any 12/24 month contracts, house is NBN ready. Basically just wanting to know most cost effective way to have internet for 6 months.

Thank you in advance!!!

I recently got iinet (TPG network) non-Nbn and got a 6 month contract with the first 3 months free (ULTRA3 code if I am not wrong).

    Superloop is also no contract.
Check if this deal is still going.

why only 6 months? Seems a waste? Most companies you can churn or relocate or even no contract.

    • Likely first home owner grant and then turning PPOR to IP. Reason for not transferring is probably because uncertain where to live 6 Months from now and want to survey the new place to see which ISP is good/bad.

      • Oh I know, I stand by my comment seems like a waste…

      • Spot on mate!

    • Moving back in with the parents post 6months, have their own plan…

  • will be living in it for 6 months only, so can’t commit to any 12/24 month contracts,

There are many month to month NBN plans around. Just about everyone is doing month to month no lock in contract.

But you can't eat your cake and keep it too. Month to month means paying for a connection fee and modem if required. You won't get that 'free'.

    • Cool, cheers for that mate

      • nbn charge $300 for new developments.

        • my house is already NBN ready? Who would charge the $300?

          • @MJD91: You pay $300 to your ISP. They should tell you about it when you put in an order.

@MJD91: Its a 'One Off' New Connection fee, its a Government Legislated fee, charged by NBN Co upon the initial connection request from the end users provider, they could absorb it, but they wont, so they onset the fee to you as the end user. Any other connection request by future occupier wont get the fee. Its basically a money grab to help pay for the nbn network

            • @Austaurean: oh right, I wonder if I could hold off for 6months and get a tenant to pay it lol. Even with a tenant cost would probably still fall to me I guess.

              • @MJD91: It's unfair on the first tenant but you can get the first tenant to pay.

              • @MJD91: I think you would be correct, i feel its a landlord responsible charge to pay as its not part of the end users plan, i.e. its part of the provisioning of a service, which is owner responsible.

@MJD91: Not sure with exact terminology, but I had to pay for a $300 connection fee for new development. This was charged by the ISP to do some minor cabling and installing a grey box that your modem can connect to. I've asked ozbargain if this is standard and it is.

My grey box was installed in my garage. Hopefully someone can give you a bit more details about it and if not, let me know and I can send a picture of my grey box

  • Best case scenario if you were on a 12 month contract, you'd be paying ~$50 a month for internet, so 6 months is ~$300.

Could you get your quota for $300 worth of data on sim with annual expiration and 4g usb modem? I see a few good plans for 80gig a month, or those aldi ones that could tie you over for that time.
