Samsung Galaxy S with Virgin - 25% off First 10 Months

94

Samsung Galaxy S (not the S2)
$0 upfront on Big Plan $29
$450 credit or $450 talk & text
250MB monthly data allowance
Min cost over 24 months is $696

Buy online and you get 25% off your first 10 months (I believe you save $72.50 - which makes the total cost over 24 months $623.50 as long as you don't go over your "cap").

Seems like a great deal for those who want to get a cheap Android phone - and it runs amazingly on Gingerbread. I've updated two separate phones to 2.3.4 Gingerbread with no problems. Guides on how to do this at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139050

Please don't neg this because "it's not the S2" - I'm aware it's not an S2, but it's a fair bit cheaper.

Posting this up because I just got stung for going over my $300 cap - I thought I had rollover but it turns out the $39 Easycap didn't have rollover >.>

  • 250MB monthly data allowance -> is the biggest problem.

Not really, it will take you 6 months to download 250MB with Virgin !!!

      • I've gone over quota on my 1Gb!
Admittedly I was going a bit crazy, but I pulled down 700mb in a few hours torrenting on my Galaxy S

      • not really ive used over 30gb in month with virgin….

        • Really? Decent towers in your area then, its all about yr local congestion.
Wait, what? 30Gb with Virgin?? How? Metering stuff up?

        • 4gb of wireless, then capped with no excess charges.

20km out of brisbane and can't get adsl let alone adsl2 and they think it's a great idea to put the nbn in inner city brisbane.

  • Gingerbread is also available as an official download through Kies now.

    • Is it 2.3.4 though? I think it might only be 2.3.3, and I've heard of people having battery issues with that one. Still good if you don't want to flash I guess.

  • Pay 90% for first 10 months, 100% for next 14 months, how is this a deal?

      ditto

whoops. Post should read "25% off first 10 months"

    • Yeah please fix.

      • Sorry, don't know why I typed that - fixed now!

man why are we still allowing vodafone deals? its not a bargain if it doesnt work… i dont think the 250MB data is going to be an issue as thats all your going to be able to pull of there network in a month!

Up here for observation mate (its virgin)

      • LOL… thanks… damnit now i cant change my OP…

keep forgeting they are with optus too…

they both begin with V but i guess that doesnt count…

        • Haha no worries. I think you're in about the same boat with Virgin anyway. Lucky to even pull down 250Mb in my area with a phone.

  • No Rollover on your cap Eviltom?
    Outraaaage!

How's this a deal? I'd much prefer to buy this (or another) phone outright and pay $15/month prepaid with LC and get $450 credit and 1.5GB data - http://liveconnected.com.au/index.php/sim-only/pioneer

    • This deal works out cheaper: total cost is $624 minus $400 for the phone = $224, divide that by 24 months and it's less than $10 per month.
Never heard of LC, who do they resell?

      • They resell Optus.

        • I thought they were optus…

Virgin BigCap's credit can be used for international calls. Not with LC.

Virgin has storefronts, so that customers can drop by in case of problems.

LC can only be contacted via email.

Not bad for the phone. I'm just wondering… wouldn't it be better to pay extra and get the version 2 of the galaxy?

  • IMO this is one of the best deals around for a plan with phone @ $29 p/m. Good phone and lots of included calls, etc, with rollover. The 25% off just sweetens the deal.

I am giving it a -ve because of the low data allowance and HUGE excess data fee of $2000/GB.

It really isn't unreasonable to use 500mb in a month without noticing. That would put your excess bill at $500.

This is not a deal. This is a trap.

Sure, you say "I don't use data, only call and text people". Why do you want this phone?

I won't neg the deal, the deal is good but this bloke has a valid point about the excess data charges. $2000/GB is scary! Not that hard to do either, if your kids muck around with yr phone etc.

No Idea why people negged your comment. I absolutely agree.

"Data has one month expiry. Additional usage charged at 0.2c per KB."

Advertising a cheapish price with some heavy hidden consequences is terrible. It would be like signing up to a credit card, with a $100 bonus, a 55 day interest period, but a 120384% interest rate.

reinstating your neg so non members can see your point.

  • OP Might also want to add the $35 credit that you can get by referring a friend.

    • How do you do that? I'm happy to add it but I don't know what it is :)
