Bought MHW on Steam, just a heads up it's a really grindy looter-shooter - so if you're into that then it's for you, personally I'm not so I refunded it.

It's a hell of a great action RPG which needs team work in order to do well. It's also difficult (even though this is the easiest in the series)

Agreed. Also low-key offended that monster hunter got referred to as a "looter-shooter".

I’ve never heard anyone refer to MH as a “looter-shooter”. Hack-n-slash, yes (which it isn’t either) but looter-shooter how is it either of those things ?!??

This one is much far more accessible and tons less grindy. I remember the Wii U version there’s a million things to do when preparing for a quest. Weapons need sharpening much more often, inventory management was a big deal. Other minor annoyances such as bringing hot/cool drink to withstand cold/hot environments. I loved it anyway but honestly I don’t think I can go back after playing this one

I honestly do go back and play older MH games. As much as I love MHW, I still love the charm the older games had.

I've got MHGU on my Switch so that's a good way to revisit the more "classic" gameplay

I've been playing since PS2 days and so that's just MH to me, I love World but I'm looking forward moreso to the next Switch version.

    • To be fair, you technically don't need to grind at all.

You COULD finish the game with a bit of luck. Simply kill every monster in the main quests once, be lucky with the drops and upgrade/build new weapons. Don't invest anything at all into armour and don't get hit at all by the monsters and you can finish the game.

Sure, the skills from armour can be useful but at the end of the day if you can dodge every attack and constantly be hitting a monster you'll kill it.

But the fun part comes from learning to deal with the bastards.

MHW is a great game; even better if you have friends to play with and hunt together, I've already sunk 400+ hours playtime into it.

This game can get real grindy if you really want to make the most out of it.

    • If you play casually all the grinding you need to do is to farm materials to make equipment; which isn't too bad considering the carve/drop rates are pretty high for most items.
    • If you go for speed clearing/min-maxing then you'll need to grind decorations which you will most likely sink hundreds of hours farming tempered (difficulty increased) endgame monsters for specific decorations (e.g Attack Jewel 4 has an appraisal rate of 0.07%) to slot into your equipment.

There are also lots of different weapons to pick and master; so all in all, the price to content ratio makes it a very good deal.

P.S. You'll need to buy Iceborne on top of the base game for the latest content.

  • Just a heads up OP that none of these have extra discounts for VIP users.

    • OK. I will edit.
