And they're like, it's better than yours

Hahaha. Looks like an early generation smart phone strapped to your wrist…

  • This looks cool and the specs is actually not bad..

I would much rather have my phone wrapped around my arm than in my pocket. Only weird thing would be making calls lol. You will have to put your arm next to your head and your hand will look like an antenna hahaha

      maybe try a BT earphones/buds ?

  • As heavy as a Rolex Submariner!

Not sure about an Android 7.1 phone with only 480 x 640 resolution.

  • firmware update is probably going to be an issue?

  • Here's a good description of features from the Gearbest Community.

Interesting that it does support external memory like a micro SD card but only has onboard RAM: 3GB and ROM: 32GB
I wonder if it could be used to sync to a wireless SSD for extra storage?

Also no micro or mini USB port so I guess it can only be charged using the charging dock. Good battery size though on the MAX version.

Does 8M HD video calls (face time) and utilises facial recognition only on the MAX version. But only has Bluetooth V4.0 which is a pity and is only 4G (no 3G support?). But I do like the GPS feature for navigation with the large screen size.

Only IP67 water rated which is the highest for dust but not for water. IP67 means the unit can be dropped into a body of water up to a meter deep for half an hour, while IP68 guarantees protection in water up to 1.5m deep for the same period of time.

      (no 3G support?)

      It does support 3G.

      WCDMA: B1 (2100), B5 (850), B2 (1900)

  • OP: How did you get it for US$161?

The item is selling for 30% off during the flash sale at US$149.99 and with no shipping and adding 10% GST works out at US $164.99.
Then with the cheapest shipping charge available of US$0.37 and deselecting the US$5.27 "Shipping Guarantee" I end up with US$165.40 or AU$246.25

  • scotty beam me up!

    • I described it to my neighbour as a Dick Tracy watch as it can do video calls. His kids had no idea what I was talking about.

The nerdy part of me that would have once worn a calculator watch would love one of these.

Another part of me - the part of me that would welcome the touch of a woman, is afraid that wearing one of these would preclude such an event from occurring.

I had to reply as I too had a Casio calculator watch. It was a big thing at school especially using it in 'beghilos' mode. 😜

I then bought the huge Casio Protrek PRT-40 which is almost as big as the one the OP has posted on sale and almost AU$1,000. The watch has an altimeter with tracking memory so you get a 2D view on the topography travelled, a barometer that takes a reading every two hours and shows the pressure trend on a 2D graph to better predict what weather's ahead, a digital compass with both magnetic & true north selectable and with bearing memory to graphically show you what direction you're heading, and a thermometer with a 2D historical graph. The other cool feature was the auto light function that when enabled automatically turned the light on when you rotated the watch towards your face (saves having to take off bulky gloves).

Then I bought the huge Casio Protrek PRT-1 for the GPS function. So I would have to carry both watches if I wanted a GPS function, instead of carrying a large dedicated GPS device. The only problem with that watch is the battery usage. With the GPS always enabled, the battery would last no more than 12 hours at most and it is a big battery. See the cylindrical lump at the top off the watch - that's where the battery goes. The watch uses the CR2 Lithium battery and on long trips you had to make sure you had a few spare batteries with you.
Before the first Gulf War, the GPS grid available for civilians was 100m x 100m, so not very accurate and not really popular. The military had access to 10m x 10m grid references utilising specific military grade GPS devices. Then during the first Gulf War the American military enabled the 10m x 10m grid data for everyone - the funny thing though was that it wasn't widely advertised ATT. So once it was known, GPS devices became a lot more popular and practical. Everyone went out with their GPS to get more accurate grid refences or check current readings of specific way points, check points, food drop areas, …
Thankfully after the first Gulf War the Americans eventually left the 10m x 10m grid references available for everyone. Imagine what would happen if they decided to go back to a 100m x 100m grid reference for civilian use.

I also used to have the Nokia 9000 (on my belt even - eeek) and then the Treo 180 Palm Pilot with some of the plug in modules (eyemodule (camera), MP3 player, GPS, and games). Anyone for a real Smart phone? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Another part of me - the part of me that would welcome the touch of a woman, is afraid that wearing one of these would preclude such an event from occurring.

Ha, so yeah, I too am expecting the preclusion of any affections (unless I wear it in my pants) but I couldn't fight the Nerd Force (neither Palpatine or Skywalker are strong enough), so I still had to get this watch.

    • MP3 player, …

When you get yours, please post some details/impressions.

      I'm still kinda tempted.

Will do. A couple of things would have made this an easy buy for me, an external mini SD card slot, and NFC. I don't know why the company didn't include NFC, as this being a watch, it's perfect for tap and go payments, public transport, etc.

Now for most tech buys I always check out the youtuber JerryRigEverything. I can't praise this guys videos enough. He'll not only show you how a device works but he'll then try to break the device to test it's durability and then pull the device apart to see how it's put together. Unfortunately there's nothing around that I could find that really shows the features and durability of this Ticwris Max smart watch.

A great example of JerryRigEverything videos are the two he has recently done on the new bendable flip phones from Motorola and Samsung. He demonstrates that the Samsung device IS Not foldable glass but is in fact plastic (same as the Motorola device). This is despite what Samsung stated throughout their presentation of the device.

Samsung: "We're bending glass and the laws of physics"
        JerryRigEverything video
Samsung: "We’re bending the laws of the English language."

Jerry: "Glass is glass, and glass breaks."
Samsung: "Glass is plastic, and plastic folds."

2020 Moto RAZR Durability Test! - Will the Folding Icon Survive!?
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Durability Test – Fake Folding Glass?!

Still, I am seriously thinking of getting the Razr regardless of the outlandish price just because.
