HP 15.6" Laptop i7 10th Gen/16GB RAM/512GB SSD/4GB MX250 Graphics $1004 + Delivery/C&C @ The Good Guys eBay

940
PICK100

Seems like a really good deal for these specs. Just purchased one from my local store who matched the eBay price with coupon, and I am really happy with it. Online reviews are positive 4.5/5. They had plenty of stock in 2 stores that I called, even though on ebay itself it says only 3 available (you can still C&C via ebay for lots and lots of stores).

I have been monitoring it on ebay and The Good Guys site after seeing this deal for ebay plus members only. The price fluctuated as high as $1499 before coming down to what appears to be an all time low, also without the need for ebay plus.

More info and specs on The Good Guys site

  • How is it compared to the e595 deal earlier?

    • better specs

      • i'm tossing up between ProBook 450 G6 and Ideapad

      • Significantly more expensive to be fair.

  • +3

It turns out to be just $1004 if you use code PUNNET

    • Just ordered with PUNNET, damn nice deal at that price!

    • Thanks will include this in the post

  • This or XPS15?

    • +1

Xps is in a different league.

    • +2

The XPS15 will obviously provide a much better experience… However, for the price, this laptop will do quite amazingly. The GPU is the main difference between the two when it comes to performance… This laptop is using a 4GB MX250 which will run perfectly fine for most games and tasks, however the XPS 15 can spec with a GTX 1650, which will provide a MUCH bigger increase in graphics performance.

TLDR: The XPS 15 has much better graphics performance and as said by Brendanm is "in a different league"

P.S. the XPS 15 due to it's much-increased price will definitely prove much better build quality as well

      • I will wait for XPS15 sale :)

Has anyone had success with cancelling an order with Lenovo as I'd rather this computer and the one I ordered last month hasn't even been shipped. What should I say?

    • +1

I'm also thinking about cancelling the order and purchasing this. My order hasn't seen any movement and it's been a week.

      • +1

Yeah I've read some horror stories with customer service so I'm not hopeful but will seek a cancellation tomorrow and PM you what happens

    • as long as its not shipped yet, you can call them up on the existing order hotline and cancel without charges. how many days they take to release the amount authorization on your card is another question….

    • And you get a cooling off with Lenovo so you can send it back, I think with free postage. Maybe ring and confirm that.

  • +1

Compared to the similar model that has a more metallic body the plastic body on this one feels a bit flimsy.

Not sure how that comes out in real terms - but I decided against this one because I was nervous about the body cracking over time from heat ect.

  • Oh wow this is tempting…

  • But no thunderbolt 3…?

    • I think it has one on the left side of the laptop… A laptop with all those specs and USB C is really quite impressive

P.S. Idk if that is just a normal USB C port or Thunderbolt… You will have to check more in-depth if it is crucial to your buying decision.

    • Doesn't all 10th gen processors have thunderbolt?

      • Up to manufacturers to implement it. Same applies to wifi 6. If they do decide to implement it, they don't have to rely on using a dedicated controller.

      • Only Ice Lake (10nm) has integrated thunderbolt. Comet Lake U series processors (14nm) like this one do not.

  • Battery is only 41Whr which is usually the story with high spec cheap laptops. Most likely 2 - 3hr without charger

    • +2

Battery life, screen quality and build quality will all be low with these sorts of computers. There's a reason an XPS 15 costs 2-3x as much as this!

  • +1

    Hp? Hell no!

    • +2

      Please explain

  • Does anyone know if this has a backlit keyboard?

  • +2

    Great specs and fantastic price!
Also this one with touch screen seems to be another great deal (10th Gen i5 / 8G / 256G / Fingerprint reader ..), same price.

    • Picked up this laptop today and found it doesn't have a fingerprint reader, but the good things are:
      1. It's not too hard to open the back panel for upgrading, just unscrew 4 screws on the back then use a thin plastic piece to help open the panel.
      2. It comes with 2 ram slots (1 occupied with 8g ram)
      3. Easy to upgrade the nvme ssd (The 2.5 inch HDD/SSD bay is reserved but you will need additional data/power wire to connect to the motherboard)

I just upgraded the ram to 24g (8+16) and replaced the toshiba nvme 256g to 512g, I'm re-installing the OS now.

      • Appreciate the feedback.
How do you know which nvme to use? I believe there are different versions. Is it just plug n play?
Also how do you re install windows again? via a usb? Do you need to buy another windows licence?

      • What's the battery life like ?

  • Could this laptop play Assestto Corsa Competizione and iracing ?

    • +1

      Graphics card seems quite average

  • +1

what do you think about this one? it is $1174 with code PUNNET.

    better battery.
    touch screen including pen
    2 in 1
    14 inch(i personally prefer 14)
    8Gb ram(but can be upgraded)

  • Picked up one of these - first one was dead and wouldn't charge. Luckily they swapped it and gave me a new one! Works like a charm. Great value from a chain store I reckon

  • It says 15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
    https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06447614

Does that mean it is NOT an IPS Display Panel?

    • Fancy way of saying 'this is a cheap TN panel'

    • I expected a cheap looking panel, but was surprised how sharp and good it looks. Obviously not the best laptop screen of all time, especially at this price. But pretty damn good

    • Why would they put a TN on such a high spec system

How much would it cost to replace the panel?

      • To bring the price down.

  • Anyone know if you can fit a second hdd in this?

  • Only 220 nit rated display. That's REALLY low brightness.

  • Will it handle video editing and processing? Is MX250 good enough to handle it?

  • What's more powerful and better suited to graphic design this deal?

    Or this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/516789

  • Your comparing a PC with a laptop. For Gaming the PC is definitely better given the superior GPU

If you need a reliable system for just graphics design then HP will be sufficient given configuration including the latest i7 CPU and MX 250 GPU

Remember CPU, GPU, memory and storage alone does not make a reliable high performance system

Need to pay attention to EVERY component of the system that you purchase including Mother Board, Power Supply, Thermal Management (cooling), Network (wifi card), storage system interface type (2.5 SSD vs m.2 NVME) just to mention a few.

  • PUNNET NOT WORKING FOR MY EBAY PLUS…

  • +1

Just bought one from a physical store! Thanks OP! They price matched the Pool3 price

    • What's the battery life like ?

      • So far I am getting 3-4 hours on medium performance. Not as high as I would expect but not too bad for a home office setup.

  • New code: PICK100 will bring the laptop down to $1004 (similar to now-expired PUNNET).
    Credit to dealbot: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/517734

    • Thanks, I have updated the post.

  • Any feedback or comments about the build quality or any other matter from those who already purchased the laptop

    • +1

The build quality isn't great as the keyboard feels tacky and thick bezels (hey low price for the specs). Not a problem if you use it with an external keyboard/mouse.

  • The price is back to $1500 now
