Just be aware surfshark will not get you Amazon prime UK, which is what I wanted it for before I subscribed. Works well with Netflix.

    …do-do-do-do-do-do

But tell us the price son

    • +4

Seems to be the same as the last offer, $9.99 AUD (or different depending on exchange rate circumstances) After Cashback for the 3-Year Plan.

  • This vs Express VPN?

    • +1

not sure about express VPN but I use this one which I bought on the same deal a while back and while it works it is a little slow. I was fully aware of this before I purchased and for the price I am very happy with it. If you're only paying $10 for 3 years of VPN that unblocks netflix its very hard to complain.

      • Was it advertised as being slower or did you do some research beforehand and find out it was slow?

        • No i did my research first, i read a few reviews before i made my decision. I still think i made a very good decision it is fast enough (even though i have slow internet) and i have not had very many issues with it.

      • +1

It's not that slow. Works like a charm for Netflix. Sure it isn't blistering, but what VPN is?

        • may be my vpn (purevpn) but after watching a few things on netflix, it will detect I am using a vpn/proxy.
I'd have to disconnect and reconnect vpn to a different location and try again but it would repeat itself after a few episodes.
Do you get this with your vpn?

    • I read somewhere that surfshark doesn't keep logs, where (from memory) expressVPN does
I bought the previous deal, and haven't really had any issues with it.

  • +1

Can anyone share their experiences with this? I'm after a VPN but not sure which one to go with.

    • For the deal this it's a decent VPN. It's solid for Netflix and the BBC iPlayer if you're into that.

For the money this is a hard one to beat.

    • +3

it works most of the time, including netflix etc. However speeds are slow, you'd struggle getting 1080p USA netflix and for me that defeats the purpose.

I had a lot of trouble getting this going the last time . I signed up for the 39 months and even got the cashrewards track email. On using it, i found it extremely slow.
I tried many US locations for Netflix but 4k content took for ever to load. SmartDNS would buffer up to 20-24% and then stall. The only way i could get Netflix US going on my smart TV was by using OpenVPN but it would crawl again. I was getting between 1 and 5 mbps on a telstra cable (100-115 mbps) connection. I tried various connection strategies (L2TP, switching primary and secondary DNS etc. )with live chat but he too gave up in the end and refunded my subscription. Hotstar streaming on high quality does not work too. I would not recommend this for streaming.

Netflix however did work on the computer but Smartdns, casting and using the smarttv app did not work

Sounds like you did everything you could.
      What are you using instead?

      • +3

I am not :( Netflix won

  • How does the cashback work? I signed up for CashRewards for this deal, purchased the sub. It says $0 rewards. Do I just wait a while for it to update, or did I do something wrong? First time using a cashback service.
    Cheers.

    • +3

Yeah it should pop up within a day or so usually.

      • I bought this around 11:00 am today and received a tracking mail confirmation by 03:00 pm, the best tracking time.

  • Does this work with the referral?

  • Wah did it with 80% cashback on the weekend :(

  • I'm still waiting to get my cashback from the last deal. It shows it tracked but still no actual $$ available yet. It took a bit of fiddling to get it working and you can't use it for Prime Video on apps (it only works on the computer). I mainly use it for US Netflix on my Sony TV and it's fine. Not super fast or best quality but most of the time fine. I have to restart my TV more often and make sure I turn the vpn off before turning my TV off to try and avoid issues the next time I turn it on to use though

  • Price is title

    • Is price
      Is good

  • Signed up because I've been thinking about using it to unblock foreign Netflix.

Pretty straight forward, unfortunately the server I'm using pretty much doesn't work, even loading websites is extremely slow. Once I finally got through to Netflix, it was still restricted to Australia 😕
    Would not recommend.

  • Bought this last time the deal was on, works great for netflix. Speeds within the Asia pacific region are ok, going furhter away from that gets a bit slow but still usable if you wait 5min for it to buffer

  • Is there a way to control Surfshark via command line on Win10?

I'd like to be able to use VPN for 5 minutes at a time and then for it to automatically go back to normal. Creating a batch file seems to be the simplest way to do it, but not if you can't control Surfshark via command line.

  • I'm not seeing any 3 year plan?

    • +1

You need to click "Get 83% Off" at the bottom of page from CR, then it would redirect you to the 36 months offer.

      • Thank you!

Are these guys a suitable VPN for online privacy? Or are they really just good for accessing different Netflix regions?

  • Is this good for torrenting movies?

  • Working

  • Surfshark is slow.

  • I got this to use on a fire stick 4k from USA.

Works well as has dedicated app for amazon firestick, can get Hulu and Apple tv to work on Smart TV.

However as for Netflix, it works when not plugged into Smart TV (sony) but when plugged into a computer monitor or tv without own internet connection.

Also tried to plug firestick into Smart tv and turn off tv wifi but still Netflix doesnt work.

  • This or Nordvpn or PIA?

    • PIA has been terrible lately, not for a few days but weeks, possibly a month. Sydney server often has 500ms ping, and speeds you'd expect with such a slow ping, so I use Melbourne instead until that breaks, then try sydney again, reminded of how slow it is, go back to melbourne. This ping pong crap between servers is something you experience with really low quality VPN's.

Currently at 11pm both sydney and melbourne server are fine. There is a perth server also, but it's always been slow for me, although i'm on east coast, so mayabe why. PIA is no good for streaming services (as a rule) because it's so popular, easy to detect and ban the local servers. PIA doesn't reguarly rotate the server IP's so normally stay banned.

  • So how does it compared to NordVPN?

  • +3

So I was playing with it trying to get Netflix US working. Everything was sweet until I tried to use Chromecast. This lead me down a rabbit hole of research. In the end I realised all I needed to do is configure SurfShark's 'Smart DNS' on the router to get it working, didn't even need to setup the VPN. So now I still keep my internet speed AND have Netflix US.

    • Can you tell me more about their smartdns. is it only for US, or is there an ability to change what country you appear to be in by only using the smartdns (not the vpn) thanks
      EDIT:

I've done some investigation, their smartdns is only for USA, you can not change to other countries like other smartdns providers. and their vpn is too slow to be used as a vpn mostly, and even too slow for streaming services at high resolutions. If your purpose is for streaming services in USA, smartdns should be ideal (if it works fine), but otherwise this is a slow vpn

      • I've only trialled it for one day so can't really comment on performance.

monstermash above did comment on the smartdns being slow as well, though I can't see how a DNS service can impact the streaming speed. Then again, that's based on my limited understand of what a DNS does…

        • I guess the dns server could be slow/congested?
So navigating to where you hit the play button and it starts playing could all be delayed, but once video plays it should only be as slow as your ISP's intenet speed. Someone else with smart dns experience may know more.

          • +1

@bobvegas: Yeah, to my knowledge, all a DNS does is look up the IP based on the hostname provided, so it really shouldn't impact the speed much.

Update though, I've been having issues with the SmartDNS. After a while NetFlix stops working if I am directing DNS traffic to it. I'm suspecting the Netflix has detected it and is blocking it somehow. When I deactivate and reactive the SmartDNS with SurfShark last night, it started working again, but stopped again this morning. Will try it over the weekend and see if I can figure it out more.

            • @aaronaldo: My use case is similar to yours. Would appreciate if you could continue to report your findings! Thanks in advance

  • The above terms mention "additional 3 months free" - has anyone signed up and gotten 3 extra months for free? I signed up yesterday but it was only for 36 months.
