True, Something to look forward too. Comes Easter
I want hot cross buns before Easter. I'd eat them all year if I could.
Then whats the point of the cross if no one waits to easter.
Well the point for me is the cross part is something a little extra that tastes good. That's all it is to me, a great tasting bun that I'd like all year round. The ones without a cross don't taste as good.
@LikeMike: For some the cross means something. So lets don't start an argument
@domo653q: Yes. But depends on a person's traditions & beliefs.
It is a Pagan representation of the sun wheel used during the spring equinox or "Ostara" sabbat, which falls on or about March 20th. That is a Northern Hemisphere tradition, celebrating the end of Winter!
There are many strange beliefs with these buns… tradition states that a hot cross bun was always kept from the batch baked on Good Friday, in case anyone in the family became ill during the next year. A small piece of the bun would be broken off to feed to the patient. These buns had extremely holy connotations and were believed to be able to cure all ills, including the most dreadful diseases.
Now, it mainly means extra sales & profits to stores. Otherwise they would not be selling them now.
@domo653q: I have no intention of starting an argument. I don't have any religious interest or argument to contribute. I just like the taste.
@LikeMike: There literally made exactly the same except for the tasteless cross they put on the top, every thing else is identical next time you have one pull the cross off and eat it separately I can pretty much guarantee that tasteless cross adds nothing to the overall flavour of it - source: know a baker at coles
@CheapoJohnno: I can pretty much guarantee that it does add to the flavour. Source: My taste buds, which are different to yours. It's *they're by the way.
I guess its a good thing for your sake that coles does make them all year, at least my local (penrith NSW) does
Too late! Coles started selling these from Boxing Day due to "strong customer demand"!
In 2017, Woolies sold almost 10M just in January! Plus 72M during the Easter period.
Woolworths Bakery Manager, Ben Thompson, said Woolworths shoppers do not want to wait until close to Easter to eat hot cross buns.Same as creme eggs, I'd eat those if they were available year-round.
Yay! Just in time for…wait…
So this is just a stand giving out hot buttered sample. Would grab if was in store. (my local Coles)
But are all demonstrations in supermarkets giving out samples now to get their own Deal?
what are they crossed with?
These buns are just cross😡
Stars.
Don't support this. They need to learn no one wants guy cross buns before Easter.
Supply and demand.
