Thanks OP. 50+ more books to add to the 1,000+ I already have that I never seem to find time to read. One day I will get around to them.

Anyone know of a quick way of organising their kindle library by category? I find it almost impossible to look for books by genre or any other criteria other than title on my kindle.

    • +3

I find the Kindle home page to be very dopey. The Kindle can store many books but the organisation is lacking

    • +3

Maybe create Collection folders for your categories and assign books to them when added

Adding to collections is teh way to go but its a hard task to do on Kindle itself (at least for me).
Amazon has changed their "Manage Contents and Devices" section (in website) where you can bulk add your books to different collections with afew clicks. Not the best user experience but I think its functional enough to get the job done(much better than in Kindle).

  • Wow, some really good title's here, thank you for sharing!

  • no The Three-Body Problem?

  • At this rate, I'll have more books than the 5000+ Steam games I'll never play.

Thanks OzBargain, you've done it again!

Hopefully this'll put jv into a better mood .. with so many Jules Verne titles

Very, very nice selection. Just needs a dash of Frank Herbert.

    • No dune? This is blasphemy!!

  • thanks. worked fine with Aussie Amazon, non-prime.

These are almost certainly all public domain works that you can get for free elsewhere (e.g. Project Gutenberg), in a format that works on any device.

As an experiment, I picked "THE FORGOTTEN PLANET, by Murray Leinster" because I hadn't heard of that author - https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/41637

It's free, and it brings them all together in one collection for the convenience. What's wrong with that?

      • +14

The free promo is intended to boost them up the Kindle rankings, then they change the price and future people buy it, not realising it should be free. They give money to Amazon and some guy that collected a few files together. Essentially people downloading this are helping a scammer, that's my opinion.

Come on mate, these are classics!

Yes most are public domain due to the author being dead for so long, but who cares!!

As Morty said, they've been collated into a one convenient file. FREE. Stop whinging.

            @UFO:

they've been collated into a one convenient file. FREE. Stop whinging.

It's already free anyway. How about you stop being lazy and stop enabling scammers.

        • +2

I can understand that point of view.

    • +1

Let me get this straight. You're whinging that this freebie is available free elsewhere?

      • +5

In a year or so, it will be $24.99 $0.99 and lots of people will see that as a bargain & buy it, because $0.99 is seen as nothing/free.

Nothing wrong with being aware of that information.

        • +2

I'd hazard a guess that a lot of Kindle owners wouldn't even know how to get an ebook onto their device without the Amazon app. They'd have to work it out, then do it x50 times for each ebook in this package. They're essentially paying for convenience. Nothing more.

          • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: im one of those who how to get ebooks onto my kindle - i just prefer the amazon format so this is great for me.

  • +1

+1 from me as it's a good collection and because it includes works by Andre (Alice) Norton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Norton and http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/7021) - as a kid I loved her stories. Hopefully the formatting is good - it can be a bit hit and miss with 'free' books.

    • thanks very much

  • Which of these are actually worth reading?

  • Thanks worked on my Japanese Kindle account

  • +1

Great stuff! I recommend Edgar Rice Burrough's Princess of Mars, Warlord of Mars and God of Mars trilogy. The original space opera - one of the inspiration for star wars original trilogy

    • I'll take your word for it and start with that

  • Thanks OP that's alot of reading to get thru…

  • Cheers OP

  • Thanks.

  • Good get - tar

  • "Ultimate" is an overstatement; there's no Asimov nor The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy!
