  • got this email too. Wife wants one, and the i7 looks that much tastier now with $250 odd discount

  • Nice machines but a pity they don't have option of better graphics cards.

  • +2

Thanks. Very nice machine for the price. Don't forget the 7% moneyback via MBC which would make it an even sweeter deal :)

    • but i dont know, why MBC is soooo slow. they take months…

  • Nice! But I have 3 laptops at home already :(

  • I picked up a refurb top spec i7 one a few weeks back and very happy with it.
Gets a bit hot and loud when you do something intensive like 3D gaming or virtualbox.
Feels solid but on close inspection you can see where some corners were cut (some plastic parts, glue visible under screen edge) but for the price very tidy package.

the 1080p screen is the deal-maker

  • Just curious, what good does a 1080p screen do on a laptop? Not going to watch movies on it. Is it better for games?

    • +1

Vertical resolution is often pretty important - especially for developers or designers. Developers often have alot of code on their screen at any given time and don't like scrolling relentlessly to see it. a 1920 screen allows you to see much more stuff than a lower resolution would.

Essentially a higher resolution means stuff on the screen is smaller, but you can see more of it.

      • Hey IDontWantToSignUpJustToComment would you recommend Full HD on a 15 incher ??

        • +2

full hd on a 15 inch looks great, i had a dell precision lappy about five years back and it was sharp and clear. I just cant believe it has taken so long to become more common.

        • I would suggest it on any screen size. More pixels per inch == high quality images. Screens are different to solid images (photos for example) but the concept still applies.

        • Normally I'd say no, however that was because screens used to be 16x10 aspect ratio - meaning you'd get a resolution of 1440x900. Now they're all 16x9. You not only lose some of that precious (and limited) vertical res, but somehow they even manage to take horizontal res off you too!

I use a 16x10 15" laptop (1440x900) for work and I don't think I could survive on anything less. Seeing as you can't get them anymore outside of the Mac world, the only option these days is to go full 1080p.

EDIT: I'd also like to clarify that I certainly don't have 20/20 vision so I found 1440x900 worked best for me. Of course, this is a personal preference and higher res pretty much always means a better picture :)

    • 1080p on a laptop is kind of a paradox in my opinion.

You get a clearer and more detailed screen, which is especially good for games. However laptops often come with less than impressive graphics cards, making it push out a 1080p picture just cripples your performance. Of course you can solve this by buying a laptop with a better card which then leads to the laptop being bigger and have less battery life.

But hey everyone has different priorities, I got myself a 1080 laptop :P

  • Can anyone confirm, if they are better then the existing XPS. i7 in this machine is not Quad core and the display card is 525 and not 540 like in XPS. is it worth the buy?

    • The i7 trumps this, but the i5 is no slouch. Depends what you're using it for and how far down the track you're looking. 3D gaming will pull the i7 ahead, ditto with the GPU.

But then again, the 15z is much purtier. And I'm a free bitch baby.
