in a recent sale of trip.com I tried like 15-20 date combinations that were showing price for a particular ticket of $350 on skyscanner but under trip.com However as soon as I was redirected to the actual trip.com website the price was bumped to $450, kind of hard to trust this behaviour. And yes I have plenty of screen shots to prove it, it was not one or 2 occurrences, it lasted at least for 2-3 days so not a "refresh cache isuue", IMHO it was some system glitch that they exploited to make them the cheapest on skyscanner :(

    • Skyscanner is owned by Trip now so I'm not surprised. Personally I wouldn't use either.

Although sometimes issues can be related to where the tickets can be issued. I was looking for some cathay tickets out of HKG, but all the local tickets were selling for like $70 more.

I then used ita matrix and was able to find tickets sold out of HKG sales office were always cheaper than any other office. What could be happening in you instance is that it's picking up a different sales office on skyscanner and when you go to trip.com, it defaults to a different sales office.

I recently used Trip.com for some flights and was able to get flights about $20 cheaper than the airline. I choose the within two hour issuing option and the flights appeared in my frequent flyer less than a minute after booking.

I'm just doing this write up as sometimes with these websites you only get people who had their bad experiences comment, whereas many people who've used these services haven't had any problems don't comment, so you get a bit of a false impression of the website.

  • Code doesn't seem to work on an VA flight from ADL-BNE-HND
Just realised the start date :|

  • IMHO not worth the risk dealing with TRIP.com for $20 or $50 discount.

    • I'd suggest if you are worried, use your credit to make the booking as you can do a charge back. I'm not sure why people are so hesitatant as the parent company made $4.5 billion US in revenue in 2018, its not some small business.

Maybe the only thing I'd steer clear of the option to have a booking confirmed 168 hours before flight. It probably a bit too close for comfort.

  • I have used BYO coupons before and they were good as. Come on BYO - how about a match…

  • Our flights (excluding tax) didn't meet the minimum spend for this deal, but the day after repeatedly browsing the desktop site, I saw this offer at the top of my search results: "Haven't found the ideal flight yet? Here's a AU$20 promo code!" You get $20 off $400 bookings or $10 off $200. New users and redeem via the app only. Valid till 13 Feb 2020. Might be worth a try if Aunt Betty/BYOjet aren't cheaper.
