It's not an action movie. It's a psychological thriller.
I agree. Not taking away Joaquin's performance (he was great) but this doesn't look like the Joker we know. even if it is an origin story, it's really hard to imagine Arthur Fleck to grow and become the Joker. Joker is calculative, strong-minded, no mercy and downright a psycho. Arthur Fleck came across weak, he showed compassion (he spared the midget and the 'gf' neighbour, as director later stated), and truth be said, when he gets in the Asylum, you can just start him back on his meds and that'll just put a stop to him.
Even during the leadup, I felt they had a story that was designed to win them an oscar, but they couldn't see what audience it fit into. So someone came up with the idea that they could turn him into the Joker and gain an already made audience.
To be honest I was bored with it and it just felt awkward to me. It was a good performance and will probably win an Oscar for him, but I didn't like it and there were many points when I turned away because I was embarrassed for the character. It's the first film I have ever stopped watching half way through (and I even watched Battlefield Earth all the way through.).
Yep. People get sucked into the hype. It was the same with Avatar
I went to the stairs in this movie in New York (Bronx) and its now packed with tourists trying to act like the joker on the steps….even some dude was trying to sell merchandise…

This movie is prime for UHD Blu-Ray. 4K master, shop on a large format cinema camera. Beautiful Cinematography. 1.85:1 aspect ratio, so it fills up the screen. Tempting me to upgrade from my 1080p TV haha

I saw this in the cinemas because of Joaquin and not because of DC.
It's ok movie, but it's not a winning movie. Have no idea what's all the craze and fame about anything disabled physically, mentally, loonie, awkward, terminal illness etc. Don't fool yourself that it has to do with any awareness towards that or understanding. It's more mockery and exploitation. It's a hard movie to watch if someone you know suffers from some sort of disability.

This movie really hits the mark. It is so true that a run of 'bad luck' can send someone into a dark spiral. This story is in essence really about the importance of treating others as you wish to be treated. Everyone of all ages should watch. 5 stars.
The outrage of some about this movie was like the look of this father and his two kids who watched batman begins at the cinema. They had the confused look of what did we just watched? Wheres batman?
I guess some here were hoping it be like action flick joker like heath ledger or jack nicholson.
Me personally. I liked joaquin phoenix's portrayal of joker. Its gritty and sad. Just how jokers life really was.
This is not to take away from heath ledgers portrayal of joker however.

Oscar winning actor performance
It was always risky playing Joker after Heath Ledgers awesome effort, but Phoenix definitely pulled it off.
Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad was horrible.Phoenix got the Golden Globe for this performance, and I reckon he's definitely front runner for the Oscar.
Not a great movie in the history of movies… but still very good. Phoenix was bloody unreal though.

I laughed at, and disliked all the comments under this, from all the defensive, desperate incel losers though (who will always be triggered to appear, if there is anything to do with this movie)!
As for the movie itself. Geezus. I spent a third of the movie, rolling my eyes. Some parts I liked (like the scenes paying tribute to the 1989 Batman!). But by the end of movie, I wasn't very satisfied!
If this movie and 1989's Batman were both playing in a cinema; I would rather go to see 1989's Batman again, than this one! It was a million times better and more fun, and always will be!!
