  • Sorry OP but this is a duplicate of this unfortunately.

    • +1

I believe other one was missing Mastercard gift card

      • Just checked and it is…

        OP make the title:

1000 Flybuys (Worth $5) with $50 Coles Gift Mastercard (In-Store Only) @ Coles

        • Updated :)

          • @bibimbap: Also just noticed it says $50+ Gift Cards (not just the $50 one.)

Collect 1,000 BONUS Points When You Buy a $50 or Above Coles Gift Mastercard

            Thanks.

            • +1

@WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Yes but $50 will get you 1,000 points. No need to spend more :)

              • +1

                @bibimbap: Oh yeah true :)

              • +2

                @bibimbap: Yeah but you pay a 5% fee with a 100 gift card… or a 10% fee with a $50 gift card

                • +1

@toobzy: Yes it's better to buy the $100 card and get a 5% discount after paying the fee. I do not understand why they have this fee all the other physical GC do not. I would purchase a lot more of these other than for this and the limit of one per account.

                • @toobzy: If you're getting the $5 fee back in the equivalent amount in points, it's misleading to frame it as a 5% or 10% fee because you always get back the 5% or 10% reimbursed, so it's actually a 0% fee either way.

(Obviously assuming you're valuing the 1000 points as $5 cash to keep it simple.)

So just get the card value that you need. Personally I prefer to have the smaller value as I just use these cards to sign up for streaming subscriptions or prepaid sim cards.

                  • @aoiro: Oh yeah thanks I think you're right!

          • @bibimbap: Here are the Terms and Conditions as well :)

$5 fee. so it's $55 for a $50 disposable mastercard. does anyone use these for anything, like new accounts?

    • +11

for people who want to do illicit stuff or hide what they spend their money on other half or family? Maybe? I don't see a point of shelling out $55 to get $50 and $5 in flybuy points.

      • +2

good for making new accounts with some apps that take credit, or using them to sign up to subscription websites so they cant deduct all your money. i accidentally signed up to kogan first for a year. its $100!

        • These cards won't be accepted at 90% of the sites you need a subscription for. It detects as a prepaid card.

          • @toobzy: that's the only thing worrying me. do you know which ones definitely do/don't take it, or have you just heard of that happening?

            • @belongsinforums: I have a stack of these at the moment.. have previously had the only1 cards too. Both are hard to redeem

          • @toobzy: i've had many apple itunes free trials on my zero balance CGM, as well as kogan first and club catch trials.

          • @toobzy: Certainly not true. Worked fine with most site I linked mine. Amazon, Boost, Catch, eBay, NBA, etc. Some sites may do more restriction, but certainly not 90% u claimed

        • I only buy these when they are 2000 points for $100. And only use Coles gift cards to purchase. That results in a 9% discount, after the fee, I think. I use them for paying medical bills and allied health providers who often do not accept Amex. This way I in effect use Amex and get a discount. I also pay my gas bill at the Post Office for Tango who do not accept Amex not even through Post Billpay. Many people do not know how to use them but you just swipe, select credit and enter pin. If I could get enough I would use them to shop at Coles as usually I can only access 4% off GC at Suncorp.

          • +1

@Yola: Discount dentist. I like the way that sounds

          • @Yola: I thought you can't use gift cards to purchase other gift cards anymore?

            • +1

@Craze: the POS systems shouldn't let you

            • @Craze: It has been reported on here by several people that you cannot at Woolwoths. It has also reported by many that you can at Coles. In my experience the system allows it at Coles but some operators refuse. There is one store in my area that will not do it but in another they will. Sometimes they tell me it will not work but when they try it does. In the self check out it has been reported you must use a GC that covers the full amount and this I have done. The supervisor has to come to verify and she had no problem. I try to pick a young, usually a student, casual who do not know better or do not care.

      • Credit card churning

        • +3

Why negged? I have purchased this before to meet the minimum spend on my AMEX.

  • You could also add that there is a $5 purchase fee, so it costs $55 to buy.
    Edit: Beaten

  • How much do these cards cost to purchase? (In addition to the $50 that is)

    • $5

  • +3

    zero net profit

    • +7

      Yet you upvoted this post?

      • -2

I thought it was the usual deal……. at first

    • Wrong. In some checkouts, I can use discounted gift cards to pay for these and then get free trial month of netflix. I will buy 3-4 cards for sure using different flybuys accounts.

      • Do you know how to make a split payment using self-serve? Is the method, not to select split payment? I know the method for the old system was to insert coins without selecting any payment options first.

        • You cannot split payment when buying a gift card using gift card.

  • +1

I could use my Qantas Travel Card and make 12 points

  • +1

I am pretty sure I got Flybuy points buying the $100 Mastercard and I get double points because I have Coles insurance

    • Double bonus points? or double purchase points?

      • double purchase points

  • +3

just when I thought coles offers couldnt get any worse….

  • +9

I use these cards to get triple points on my Amex Platinum Edge, then can use the MasterCard to pay off a boring bill e.g. council rates

    • +1

      Smart. No cash advance fee?

Have you checked whether the 5% off Woolworths gift cards gets the 3 AMEX points? That would be something.

  • Could give as a basic gift that's one level more thoughtful than cash

    • +1

How is it more thoughtful than cash? It involves more effort than giving cash I guess, but it's certainly less useful than being given cash.

  • +1

I tried using a $20 Visa prepaid card for new Uber account, but the card type wasn't accepted as a form of payment. Any experience whether this would have the same result?

    • My personal experience, uber rejects all prepaid cards.

I cant even register a new uber or uber eat account on my new phone, with a new number. Maybe they cross check with my google account??

      • Buy an Uber GC with prepaid MC?

  • Anyone know what’s the highest value of this card you can buy?

    • +1

      Probably $100

  • +9

    Am I missing something?

This deal is at the top.

Yet You pay $5 to get $5 in points, where is the benefit?

    • +6

I was about to ask the same. Wtf where is the deal in this?

      • no 2k prawns here.

      • Money laundering with the equivalent of no fees

    • +2

You can use Amex to buy these and use them at places that do not accept Amex but take Mastercard. Can also be useful to get 3x points as with some Amex cards.

I’m looking forward to it tbh.

      • +2

Still a dud of a deal IMO. 3x points on what. $50? 150 points?! whoope…

        • plus you pay an annual fee on the credit card

        • +2

If you don’t like a deal, feel free to move along.

      • +1

Good for dodgy websites, stopping kids borrowing your phone/games console and maxing out your credit card , stopping recurring payments on streaming sites/mobile phones, also if you're with a bank that gives cash back on payWave it's $1-$2 free money you you can use online.

  • +3

Hard pass..Not seeing this as an actual deal. More a negative deal tbh 🤷‍♂️

  • One or two Coles still allow you to use discounted gift cards to purchase these. Only then is it worth it IMO.

  • +3

For those buying these with discounted egift cards (which should be everyone), it makes more sense to buy the $100 ones.

    • +2

      How so?

      Assuming 5% discount

$100 GC costs $105 = $99.75 cost = 99.75% cost for the money you get

      $50 GC costs $55 = $52.25 + $5 flybuys = $47.25 = 94.5% cost for the money you get

Unless there is a bonus for the $100 card not listed in this deal?

      • There is indeed the same 1000 fb points promo on the $100 cards too.

        • +1

          Sometimes they have 2000 points.

  • Will $50 be counted towards weekly spend promo. I need to finish final week of $50.

  • Not really a deal honestly

    • 45 ppl upvoted this which I'm trying to understand lol

      • Well I actually accidentally upvoted. My phone screen a bit small so.. but I kinda get the deal here too. This is not about getting some money or discount.. this is about getting a prepaid MasterCard I assume? To use different accounts on ubereats or apps like that.

        • ^pin this response!

This makes sense…not 150 velocity points,3x rewards points earn rates etc

          • +1

@chk: Some people have discounted gift cards that this will convert into a more useable form of currency.

This can also be compound with credit card spend requirement for bonus, Amex offer, rewards point and other incentives to make this worthwhile.

  • Can you choose a value for the card or it's only available in $50s & $100s?

    • +2

      50 and 100 only

      Written on outside of packaging.

  • Spend $50 to make $50. What a bargain.

  • +2

This post makes me question everything. So, 52 positive votes. Realistically, this post should have zero votes. Breaking even while wasting your time (and using up plastic) is not a deal.

    • -5

      Agreed, ozbargain is going downhill

      • -2

It's not OzBargain's fault. It's simply reflective of the lack of rational logic of some 52 members. Blame the dumbing down of society.

        • +1

I appreciate this deal being posted. I would be buying 4 of these $100 cards this month regardless, but I am $20 better off with this deal. Free money.

I'm not going to spell out the maths for you, but if you can't figure it out, who is it really that is dumbed down?

        • +2

Well Sparkie, it is a deal IMO….most of the “ozbargain bright sparks” will only pay $99.75 for the $100 card and get around 95 frequent flyer points as well as $5.50 in additional flybuys points…..bringing cost down to around $93.50.

    • +2

      Post a better deal

  • -4

    So whats the bargain here?

    Duplicate post.
    No bargain.
You don't save a single cent.
It's worrying that there is +50 votes here.

    Hello mods?

  • It is deal for people who want to use discounted giftcards.

  • whats the point of getting $5 in flybuys when there's a $5 purchase fee? can someone please explain im too dumb too see the profit.

    • You can also buy the "for them" gift cards $50 or higher and get the points.

      • no purchase fee for those right?

  • I can turn a profit on it, I could buy the 100 with my Velocity Global Walle and get 34 points plus 210 Flybuy points as I have a Coles product

    • Interesting. So you get 2x flybuys by having 2 products (flybuys and Coles MasterCard) and you can pay by an alternative method (velocity wallet), not the Coles Mastercard, and still get 2x points?. Nice!

      • I have Coles Contents Insurance, and the premium was the cheapest, this gives me 2 x Flybuys points. I dont have any credit cards, just Qantas Cash and Velocity Wallet which both give some points per spend, and no fees. I also have HSBC 2% cashback card

        • Cheers, wonder if you also had the Coles credit card, you get 3x points (3 products) paying with an alternative funding source.
