  • Hi OzBargainers!

Thank you very much for all your comments.

Due to the disastrous bushfires, 3 days ago we came to understand that many retailers ran out of face masks of any type. Due to this, we decided to do the right thing and source disposable masks and send them out for free with every single order.

We have never sold any kind of disposable face mask and with this campaign we only have the intention to do the right thing, as quickly as possible.

With the bushfire crisis in Australia and from the bottom of our family business hearts, we decided to help whoever can be helped by providing a free mask with any purchase. We do not force anyone to shop with us to get the mask.

Given we are not specialists in the industry of face masks, we used a generic image and a very brief description of the product we were offering for free.

Obviously, some people got this message differently by blaming the image/description of the mask.

After all of the above comments, we have thoroughly investigated the product we are offering for free and thankfully we have discovered that indeed they do filter out PM 2.5 particles.

The image provided was a generic image only.

Despite all of the above, we as an Australian owned and operated business are donating 1,000 free PM 2.5 compatible masks to the Australian Red Cross.

Additionally, anyone in this thread that would like to receive a free mask (whilst stock lasts), please email us at [email protected] with your best delivery address (P.O Boxes are OK).

Thank you for all your comments which demonstrates the spirit and action, helping out our communities when they need it most.

Any other questions - please let us know.

  • Can you provide more information on the mask that will be provided?

If you have any other questions, please let us know!

      • Is the mask a half-face "P2" category or not?

Provide a product ID (if possible).

        • +1

          Most likely not. Unfortunately.

      • +2

So the 'deal' is that you throw in a useless mask for what is in the air right now? This doesn't filter our PM2.5 particles so won't do any good.

      • Thanks but these flimsy masks do absolutely nothing to filter out fine particles. Save yourselves the hassle from adding more to our landfill

  • +2

    A good gesture, but…

Does the mask effectively filter out PM 2.5 particles?

Does the mask come with proper sealing at skin contact?

I am not trying to be nasty, but general public awareness on a proper mask under this circumstance is important.

Give away mask to boost sales is smart, if you do it in right way and timing.

    Appcreiate your kindness.

      Hi icecream!
We don't believe this mask is specifically made to filter out PM 2.5 particles (we will double check in the meantime from the manufacturer).

However, in these circumstances, we believe any mask is better than no mask.

We want people to stay as safe as possible and if people have any mask at home that covers their face - we strongly recommend putting it on.

"However, in these circumstances, we believe any mask is better than no mask."

That is absolutely and completely false. Masks make you breathe more heavily, so you will be breathing in more of the nasties.

However, in these circumstances, we believe any mask is better than no mask.

So you're asking people to buy, for example, a $20 item and you'll give them a useless facemask worth less than $0.50?
This is not a bargain — it is a "con".

Congrats, you made it on 7 news

    • Sign my wall please, you've made it, congrats!

This is an opportunistic bundle masked as an attempt to help with bushfire smoke, that doesn't event provide a mask that is suitable for the conditions. And you're providing poor advice that 'any mask is better than no mask'. What were you thinking?

  • +5

poor form, trying to benefit in the current situation.

  • +3

    What is the bargain here?

Rep, are you selling anything that is the the cheapest around?

Show us examples of products that are actually of good value that would entice potential customers.

The masks you're offering provide no actual protection so there's no 'bargain' there.

Otherwise this post is of really poor taste and you're just trying to profit from the terrible conditions.

Well that business's reputation has gone up in flames🔥

    • +2

Lucky they got a lot of masks on hand.

      • +1

No wonder they were giving them away to every customer.
But those don't filter out the stench of this Deal!

      • +1

Lucky they got a lot of masks on hand.

I know what they can do with it.

  • +1

Trying to cash in on the disaster. Also, even if these were syitable for smoke, you should be giving them to people who actually need them, not at random.

  • Expired already?
I never thought this deal would have been ozbargained

I was so bored and I spent half an hour digging around this business. There are some fun facts I'd like to share.

    • The business was started from eBay Boutique Retailer since 25 Aug 2009.
    • Extracted from the domain whois: the ABN used to register this domain is 41842064432, which matches the date above.
    • Extracted from Wayback Machine: the website (https://www.boutiqueretailer.com.au/) was first captured since 22 Apr 2013, at that time it just listed all the items on their eBay store.
    • Extracted from Wayback Machine: the website became independent since 16 May 2014.
    • Extracted from Wayback Machine: the website became unavailable since 09 Jan 2016.
    • Extracted from Wayback Machine: the website was set to redirect to the eBay store since 13 Sept 2017.
    • Extracted from Wayback Machine: the current website was established since 29 Mar 2018.

    • On their current website, they claim they have 20+ years experience and have been around since middle ages (from the 5th to the 15th century?).

    • The recent orders pop up windows at the left bottom corner shows people just bought X product at a random time in March 2020 to July 2020. A list of recent sales from the not too far future can be found from this API. E.g. |url$60|%2Fbarmah-canvas-cooler-drover-hat-outback-foldable-b~109806$3|now$10|1578309988$2|ts$10|1590944940. 1578309988 is the EPOCH time now, and 1590944940 is the EPOCH time of the transaction, which is 1 June 2020 3:09:00 AM AEST.
    • Although they have been using the business name "Boutique Retailer" since 2009, it was not registered until 8 Mar 2019.

    Another dodge website?

    • have been around since middle ages (from the 5th to the 15th century?).

0_o I would like clarification on this
