It's NAB, there'll be some hidden charge, and it'll be bitter & cold.

Agree, no such thing as a free coffee.

There will be an exit fee when you leave.

        you left out

"do not have to be a customer to get free coffee, but we only transact fees via NAB accounts. You are free to drink the coffee directly from the machine on the spot…we charge a spillage fee of 10c/ml spilt."

If I recall correctly NAB was first of the big four to abolish account-keeping fees (with no conditions like minimum deposits), overdraw fees and overlimit fees. If the result is they're viewed as no better than their peers, they may as well bring them back.

      • People are rightly cynical. If the bank has volunteered to scrap a whole raft of fees, then one of three things has to happen: A) Profits fall leaving bitter shareholders, B) Profits are kept the same by raising interest rates or not passing on other savings, C) Profits are kept the same or even rise because people migrate to NAB.

        (A) will be avoided at all costs by management. (C) is what management is hoping for. (B) is the most likely outcome.

I recently got a mortgage with the Big Four where the institution offered no application fee before June 30. After June 30 the exit fee has been scrapped (by law), but the application fee ($600) is back. To paraphrase NAB's marketing line: A Little Give, a Little Take. In case anyone's wondering, there were numerous reasons for not going with a building society or regional bank.

        • Just one small fault in your argument… Reducing fees doesn't automatically reduce profits. It could very well increase the amount of customers they get and most probably increase profits which I assume was their aim.

  • almost worth the trip to the city

  • +1

what, so now they are charging a fee to cough in the bank, a cof fee and today they are allowing you to cough for free. well I never. a deal to be sneezed at, at least its fee free.

  • WHAT DO THEY EXPECT TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS???

    • +1

I don't know. Everybody knows that OzBargainers have no money. That's why they line up to save $2 and flock to any location where there are freebies.

    • +1

      More give, Less take.

    • +2

Actually if another business were doing this there wouldn't be any cynicism, it would be seen as just normal advertising spend. It's just that we all hate banks, for reasons we all know.

  • I work for NAB, it's the marketing guys up to something again. They seem to have the most fun at present moment.

Ie: grand piano in Docklands with a guy playing breakup songs, Etc.

    What the hey, Free Coffee!
