[QLD] Cell Ultimo Urban Electric Bikes $799 (Was $999) @ ALDI (Gold Coast Stores)

620

Cell electric bikes at Aldo have been discounted from $999 to $799 at Aldi stores. Found in all Gold Coast stores but presumed also discounted at other areas too. Credit to Rolts for the original post.

Stores I checked had lots of stock of both step-through and standard frames. After checking out reviews, this seems like a good bike compared to cheap import units. It comes with a 60 day refund policy (anyone who purchased at $999 could probably claim the difference) and 2 year warranty.

I'm just unboxing but it seems fairly good quality. 40nm of torque is decent for hills, but not in $3000 bike territory with midgdrive. Reviewed well here:

Aldi managers can't negotiate any more, and prices are controlled by head office, but may be a good deal if you were on the fence

Why is the thumbnail a woolworths logo?

    "Cell electric bikes at Aldo"
    Where's Aldo?

    • +1

I’d assume Aldo is where Waldo is?

      • +2

        whadda 'bout Wally ?

        • +3

Saw him in the Aldo the other day. He was punching up the staff because they don't have alcohol in Queensland

    • I think Aldo is the generic name for the non-grocery section of a store, in this case ALDI. So Coles has an Aldo in aisle 9 where they sell fertiliser and light bulbs, for example. Correct me if I'm wrongo if I'm wrong.

  • Can these be ridden like a normal bike without the electrics? E.g. can it be turned off if required?

    • +1

Yes but you probably wouldn't want to because it would be very heavy.

    • +1

Ped Elec… they assist the pedalling, not like an electric motorbike with a throttle and only work when you pedal. Not sure about this model but for most of them the electric assist cuts off @25km/h because of legislation and are similarly Watt limited for that reason (ones outside that spec. are only supposed to be used on private property).

You can normally adjust the amount of assistance with the flick of a switch, a little, some and a lot or none, each adjustment using more battery power. They are superb for commuting where you have hills, for the elderly or infirm (my mates 85 yr old Dad uses one all the time), or where your commute is say >10km each way.

for the average, moderatly fit person for a commute out to 10km on the flat I wouldn't bother.

Albeit, they are game changer for commuting.

      • +6

Even for an average flat/short commute they are ideal for not having to shower on arrival.

      • +2

I've seen a couple where the bloke used a manual/normal bike and the woman used an electric. She said she got stuck of seeing his bum in the distance, now she can keep up.

        • +2

so she can see his bum up close? i usually hold onto my farts for this reason.

  • +4

I've never been so confused by such a simple post lol

    • +9

Just needs to link to the Coles website

  • +22

It's an electric bike from Aldo - the fresh food person.

    What's not to understand

  • +2

My local has literally 10+ in stock. I honestly can see this being discounted deeper. The box is gigantic

    • Reckon it would fit into a sedan car with backseat down?

      • I strongly doubt a sedan would fit this. Best to go instore and measure.

      • +1

Obligatory "will this fit in my 2005 Ford Focus with the seats down" comment.

        • Nay, it’s 2006.

      • +2

        Walk to store.. ride back

        • +1

Some assembly is usually required for bikes sold in boxes.

      • May be ride it home is it not too far

      • +2

        Box is 1550x900x230mm

    • it might get further discounted, this is how i picked up a gas smoker for $99.

think it was $199 originally, then drop to $149 then $99 with a 'reduced' sticker on it (red/white).

they did the same with the 1up arcade machines.

The YouTube video is of "Stacey Hills, PROFESSIONAL Commuter"
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/goto/509906
I guess that means that she never actually gets to work?

    • What if she works from home?

      • Then she wouldn't be commuting and getting paid to do so then would she?

    • Wow, that video is bad.

  • I wonder how this compares to the 1000watt ebay kit for $700 put on a $150 second hand mongoose tyax

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161807846788

Or even the 350watt ebay kit for $500
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113861855060?ul_noapp=true

The ebay kits can also be had for 10% off when ebay sales are on.

    Mod: Fixed links

    • +1

I'd say if you are skilled enough to build an ebike, get the kit and put it on your bike, it would be easier to swap parts and do repairs later. Perhaps the biggest potential problem with these kits is that they may use some cheapest battery cells, and these batteries might lose capacity pretty fast. If you're concerned about this, find a kit without a battery and buy a battery separately paying attention to brand and chemistry of cells. It would be more costly though.

    Scanning $999 Newcastle

  • Was 999 still in Leichardt nsw this morning. Only 3 in stock there however

  • Scanning $999 Bundaberg, asked the manager as well, no dice

    • It's usually up to the region managers discretion for discounts. All regions have different discounts usually. Seen those 1up arcades for fraction of the price of other stores in different regions.

  • Gold coast, no wonder.

  • I know why they got so much stock. It's because of that ridiculously large box. I've bought aldi bikes before and they've never been that large. No way it would fit in my car and aldi don't do deliveries

    • +4

      Just ride it home

  • Is ALDI open today? I'm surprised

  • Any ideas how much is bike/ensemble/box would weigh?

  • +1

    24kg

    • But video ad said it's "light."

  • -2

Seems this bike does not come with throttle - though this sounds legit by the dumb rules, it makes huge difference when you need to start from uphill intersections.

No deal for me due to this.

  • Rouse Hill, NSW scans at $999. No discount.

  • Aldo & Tecdo. Do they make Patios and Carports?

  • Springfield central $799

    • Hi Ziggy1312, any ideas re: stock count when you visited? Cheers!

X4@$799at 3pm Wednesday, runaway bay GC, QLD

  • I got it home in a Dualis… but yes even getting the box to the register was a pain. Also putting it together was not straightforward, I wouldn’t want to be doing that outside a store.

  • Has anyone seen this in VIC?

  • From speaking to Aldi customer service today and checking 3-4 postcodes around Brisbane they are telling me this bike is completely sold out all around Queensland. Does anyone have conflicting information? Is there any way stores actually have stock not visible to CS department?

    • I went to 6 Aldi stores while trying to get confirmation on info (and seeking further discount) before posting. Mermaid Waters manager said they had loads out the back. I bought at Carrara. Over the stores I saw many in most places, so I'd be surprised if they all sold out in a day. Springwood is closer to you perhaps? I'll call past Mermaid and PM if I find one. Which frame do you prefer?

      • Thanks TheLurker, maybe the stock counts are offline given it was a previous special buy that hasn't sold out.

I'm looking for the classic frame (non-step-through).

Would be awesome if stores had a phone number we could contact. Springwood is my closest, but even then a 90 min round trip, so hard to justify if I come back empty handed!

Let us know if you find any stock nearby. Might end up doing a roadtrip on Saturday!

        • +1

Sorry to report but I checked a couple of stores and both were sold out. Will have to mark this out of stock. Sorry you missed out mate

        • Southport has 4 standard frame and 2 step through frame available out back if you are still looking?

  • I'll just chime in saying I've been a customer of Cell Bikes (in Strathfield NSW) for over 10 years. They offer the best bang for buck on quality of components—so much so that they're highly sought after by thieves who want to disassemble band sell parts—I've had 3 stolen from under my unit, with various locks, from thick steel cable to U-locks—and the worst in-store service—they're pretty much the bike Nazis in Sydney (a reference to Steinfeld, not the holocaust!).

    • I'm finding that out too. Bicycles Online provided the units to Aldi. On 3rd Jan, I took my wife's new ebike for a test ride and noticed the chain slipping under power, and then came off entirely. Lots of metal shavings.

As Aldi had no exchange stock (though I was offered to return it) I logged a warranty case with Aldi customer service. Their agent couldn't contact Bicycles Direct so gave me their details. After ten days, two emails, many calls (number engaged constantly), and escalation email by Aldi agent, still no response by Bicycles Online.

I suspect the rear Tourney derailleur is faulty, and now damaged the crankset/chain/frame. 47 days remaining in return period if they can't get this resolved.

For future ebike deals, buyer beware if you want product support

  • Not sure if anyone will see this but they've been reduced to $549.45 at St Marys, NSW. There were 2 of the walk through versions there as of midday today. Apparently Aldis discount according to their regional manager so it's possible that others nearby e.g. Mt Druitt might be similar. Penrith is NOT, i.e. still $999.

I bought the last conventional triangle frame yesterday, liked it so bought a walk through for my wife today. She's not happy with the tyre colour but will get over it…

At $1100 for two we can't complain at all…..

    • Price match time! Chance you could post a pic of receipt?

    • I just got one of the last two, but was super lucky to get it for $549.45, as they had made a mistake by discounting it too much. The price tag said $899, but they forgot to remove the bargain price, so they honoured it. I doubt the last bike will sell for that price, as they went down to fix the problem. But I was offered a price of $799 before noticing their sticker mistake, so the lucky last should be able to get it for the QLD price.

  • 6 bikes in stock at Southport for $799 as at today

  • Does anyone know of any stores around Brisbane/GC that still have any of these left - step through type preferred. cheers

  • +1

So happy! Got the last step through for $499.50!!!! NSW

    • great deal - can you say where in NSW?
      thanks

      • +1

Sure, Engadine but it was the last one.

  • Picked up a step through model at Aldi Southland (Cheltenham) for $599 today. They had one more and I believe other Vic stores have some (such as Mentone) but not many.

  • Scanning at $599 Rouse Hill NSW.
FYI one left, step through model.
I haven't checked recently, but McGraths Hill NSW also had stock (3 - 4)last week.

    • Any stock left?

      • If you know your aldi's you know they all act diffeently. Some will always 50% stock by 2month on shelf, while others are happy to have 10% off for months, then maybe go for a 20%. If you talk to staff/manager, they don't budge on price and say 'sorry mate it's up to head office' .So i'm saying if there's stuff out there still, it's probably because it's still near $1000 and they're happy for it to sit there at that price

  • I’m so happy with mine! Mind you I only use for leisure (hoping in the future I can commute).
My husband built it and it’s an easy ride. Only thing I wished for was a mobile holder and front basket, however at this cheap price I cannot complain
