Nice find! Just cancelled the black one I ordered yesterday to buy this instead.

    • Link to yesterday's?

      • +1
        • Dam ordered the black one from the deal the other day. Just got notification that it shipped

  • Good price

  • This will do 1 room? How's it compare to other brands? Replace filter costs?

    • Filters on Amazon for $30

    • Effective for rooms up to 12m2.
      Filters:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07XTLKHK6/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_…

      • I'm terrible with numbers in regards to estimating. Can you give me a rough example of how big 12m2 is please? A large bedroom? An average living room?

        • +2

          A large bedroom

        • 4m by 3m

          or

          approx 3.5m by 3.5m

          • @ihbh: I wouldn't call that large.

3M is less than two body lengths.

            • +1

              @lostn: Definitely not large.

        • A large shoebox

  • Have one of these, works great. Not sure how the filter replacement icon works, found that I needed to change the filter before the warning light came on (~6 months of use). Filters for these are https://www.amazon.com.au/AROVEC-AV-P152-Purifier-Filter-AV-…

    • Can you not just clean the filter?

      • Mixed discussion online about cleaning them, but I didn't try! Might be worth testing

        • +1

A guy online tried cleaning them by washing. This messed up the hepa sheets completely. Didn't filter as well (tested by counting particulate number). Vaccuming was better than the washing, but decreased resistance, so the sheet wasn't as efficient.

I think this is the same guy who created his own air filter, though. So could be biased?

    • +6

Serious question: How do you know it works great? Is there some way you've measured the germs, dust etc. in the air before and after switching this thing on? Or have you just noticed an improvement in symptoms of asthma or something like that?

      • +2

Sorry clarification required! Works great for smells. I have kids who do gross things and make the house smell, I put this in the room once it's clean and it makes the room livable in a few minutes, much better than a fan or not doing anything.

        • Did you find it decrease any other symptoms, if you live in an area affected by bushfires?

          • +2

@Bargainbeth: It seemed to do well with the bedroom during some smoke from the bushfires a few weeks ago (not in the vicinity of the current ones) but I doubt it'll do much heavy lifting in a big open area. For me the plan was to try something cheaper before looking into the "proper" air filters like an AusClimate one

          • +3

@Bargainbeth: I have a super sensitive nose and this filter kept the air in my bedroom odorless during the bush fires in Sydney. I walk out of my room and could smell smoke in the rest of the apartment. YMMV of course but very happy with this purchase and I paid more than this lol.

            • @fishball: Thanks! Wonder how much of it is due to the activated carbon filter reducing smells, and how much due to the hepa filter. Probably will buy one of those pm counters to see how much difference it's really making.

              • @Bargainbeth: Correct. Carbon helps reduce odours but does nothing to protect you from pm2.5 particulates. A counter is the only way to confirm hepa effectiveness. Reducing smoke odours may simply provide a false sense of security. I would also question it's ability to reduce germs as it doesn't use an ion generator. They do sell a unit with with an anion generator fwiw.

Thanks OP, missed out on the white one during yesterday's lightning deal and am glad didn't buy the black one instead!

  • Jumped on this one - I still might get a Dyson to cover larger areas, but this is great for a room.

  • I was holding out for a Xiomi Air Purifier 3 i think it's called.. This has peaked my interest however.
I'm semi sea side and usually have all windows/doors open, i'm guessing this will need windows closed to be efficient etc.

    • Mi Air Purifier 3 is more suitable for larger rooms but is harder to buy. This will be okay for a small room.

      • Why harder? They're available from many different retailers.

      *piqued

    • I bought a xiaomi - biggest regret… its pretty useless compared to my samsung

      • which one for both?
xiomi has crazy good feedback from what i've read, be temped to know what your experience was.

  • Any recommendations on larger ones for open plan house?

  • +2

Thanks OP this fits the bill nicely for the bedroom. Be great for the Australian summer we're having.

This is just a taste of how bad it's going to get before human life can no longer be supported.

      • +8

Nah it's fine mate, calm down - Scomo

Sent from my iPhone in Hawaii

      • One season of poor air quality in Australia and human life is over? Lol

More a reflection on how ineffective our political leaders are in managing the security of our country.

  • +3

That didn't last long, was just about to pull the trigger.

  • hmm was able to get one just now charged 99

  • Dang, missed this! Ozbargain notifications come through an hour later than the posts come in :(. Anyone know if Amazon will price guarantee a deal with credit like ebay does?

Edit: Convoluted, rep beat around the bush and said no price match, but when asked again, she said she could. I think it depends on the rep and how badly they need good feedback 🤔.

  • I procrastinate and missed out, just thinking if I really need this. I'm gonna regret it when smog returns to Sydney

  • Great deal, unfortunately I missed out but whoever managed to get one at this price nabbed a bonza deal.

  • Are these good for pollen in a bedroom?

    • +1

yes. But not if they're already stuck on you, your hair or inside your eyelids.

In the room I spend most of my time in, I have a Xiaomi 2S. It has definitely helped, but it's not going to make your hay fever go away.

If you never go outside for the day, you won't experience any hay fever effects. If you went outside and then you showered and changed your clothes, that should be as good as not going outside at all.

If you have bad hay fever, wear glasses when you go outside. Use eye drops if you start getting the sniffles or itchy eyes.

You've got to manage your condition. An air purifier is not going to be a substitute for managing your hay fever.

Grabbed one for the little tacker who has a little bit of asthma.

    • Just then, at the reduced price? And please let us know how effective it is for asthma purposes, when you receive it :).

    Missed it :(

What's the use of all these specials by Amazon if no one knows about them?
I never get emails from them about specials.
Is there some list to sign up to?
They just seem to come and go randomly, and it could be on anything.
I can't think of a dumber way to sell goods.

    • Yes it's hard to keep track of specials.. Just need to browse their page and hope for the best..

  • +1

Has anyone received any shipping notifications yet?

    • Just got an email saying it's been shipped.

      • Me too!

        • Mine was in the same state depot this morning.

Should go on board Thursday I imagine.

  • Anyone know how good these are at getting dust/small dirt?

So far my philips is really good
Xiaomi completely useless (i want a replacement)

  • Got mine yesterday.

This is useless on first setting, air flow is so weak it's like someone blowing air through their mouth. I think setting 2 should be the minimum, to filter a reasonable amount of air. Setting 3 still seems kinda weak too, but I really have nothing to compare it to.

Noise is pretty bearable but don't think I could have it on setting 3 while asleep (light sleeper).

Does anyone else's only blow out air on one side of the vent (ie not the full circle, but a semi circle)?

    • I use 1 while sleeping, 3 initially when entering the room. Yes it feels like one side of the fan is stronger (left of the power button side).

    • Imagine the CADR (amount of air it pushes through) is quite low given the 12m2 spec. Have you removed the plastic wrapper from the internal hepa filter? Seems like some people forget to check this.

      • Yeah I've removed the plastic wrapper. Dont take my initial thoughts too seriously. I have nothing to compare it to. And thought it would be fairly strong, like a large room fan or exhaust fan. It seems to lessen of smoky odour in decent time.

Though having it in an enclosed room irritates my nose and throat after 30m. I'm assuming the reason for this is innocent- that it dries out the air.

        • Interesting - it shouldn't dry the air out or create any more irritation as it just pushes air through filters. Unless there's a built in ioniser or plasma wave, which does affect some people - but as far as I can tell, this doesn't have that functionality? It should make the air feel cleaner, not more irritating. Is there a smell to any of the filters?
