  • Wish there was a decent assistant with actual android and screen that dimms dark so it can be on the bedside.

You can buy a Lenovo Tab that actually docks into a speaker and turns it into a hybrid voice assistant device.

      It's the Lenovo Smart Tab

      https://www.engadget.com/amp/2019/03/29/lenovo-smart-tab-p10…

      • Thanks for suggestion, it's just a tablet after all, docked :/ I have something called Archos hello 5,theres 7 and 10 also. It's nice but too bright at night unfortunately. Will have to look for something else.

My Nest Hub Max switches to a clock and gets pretty dim when it detects low ambient light. Assuming the smaller Nest Hub has similar functionality.

Not full Android, but has Google Assistant, Chromecast, support for Youtube, Spotify etc.

    • Nest Home or Nest Home Max? Tehy sorts tick all the boxes except for the Full Android

    • I own one and this dims dark with the ambient light. Perfect for the bedside.

I had this model a few weeks ago but the ambient light sensor drove me crazy. It's super sensitive and kept turning the brightness up and down all the time. And when my room was dark it dimmed the screen so much I couldn't even read the time. So I returned it. You experience might be different from mine but I thought I'd share what I think of the unit.

    • My older Lenovo 8 works fine with the dimming and pretty fast etc, but yeah with a slower chipset and just inferior screen this new model looks like a kind of a ripoff

  • The best hub/hub max do dim a lot and can can tell google to turn the screen off too, I picked up and echo show five and also dims but even more

  • I got a few Good Guys gift cards
Hope they will price match with HN

  • Anyone comment on differences (specs and or experiences) between this and a nest hub? Would like it on my bedside table.

    • Reason choosing Lenovo Smart Display 7"
      - has camera ( can do video duo call )
[however, from my understanding this camera cannot use Nest security camera feature like Nest hub max)

      Reason choosing google nest hub
      - slightly better design (eg. speaker hiding at the back)
      - better ambient light sensor ( dimming nicely based on light condition )
      - has faster OS firmware updates as its from google

      • Yes that's correct.

The video calling is a big plus for me. So much handy when you are out and about and need to call home when the missus has her phone out of reach or on silent.

The ambient light sensor works fine on mine, not sure how is this better than the Nest Hub.

  • $99 at Officeworks. So can price match for 5% off
