• Saw this posted on Whirlpool earlier…pretty sure this is the same one as before…

Delivery is about $10 BTW.

The only way I can justify it (after buying one for $99) is by thinking about it as 1 x $99 tab plus 1 x $159 tab = 2 tabs for $130 each :P

The same happens when clicking on the link from the front page of DSE

But I can add it to my basket from the front page & it's 149

• works fine for me

• Works fine for me. Must be a problem on your side.

• anyone compare this one with other tablets? most of them seem to be around $400 - $500.

dont know anything about android also, can it be upgraded to 3.0?

• +1

No to 3.0

Google only allows big brand to use v3. Cheap brands stuck with v2.

Mytab isn't qualified for the min. hardware specs for Android 3.0 anyways.

• Another reason is v3 need dual core while MyTab only single core

• +1

Android is open source, anyone can use it.
It's up to the manufacturers to compile & adapt it to their hardware, which is why only some have it.
That & it runs like a dog on under spec'd hardware.

• May be not anymore later, Google thinking to restrict modification.

• The restriction was only for Gingerbread, because Google did a lot of hacking to get it to work on tablets, and they didn't want manufacturers taking the source for Gingerbread, porting it to a phone, and give the phone a really ****ty experience. 3.0 will be open-source, so someone will most likely port the code to the MyTab at some point.

• The other odd thing I noticed was that it says "This order qualifies for 99 Qantas Frequent Flyer points."…isn't it normally 1 for 1 for this?

At checkout it still says $159 though.

• +3

As far as I know, at Dick Smith you earn 1 point for every dollar over $50. So 149-50=99.

• Ah ok.

• not sure what v2 means though.
In germany they sell a zte V9 with capacitive screen I'm hoping it's that.

I called both optus and dick smith and neither know anything about the specs. completely useless.

• +2

dude it says resistive on the page…

• For $149, capacitive screen is almost impossible as an option on a branded tablet in Australia.

• I suspect that V2 means it is shipped with Froyo 2.2. (even though the specs on DSE say 2.1) No way will this have a capacitive screen.

• Looking on dicks ith site specs looks the same as the old me to me unless it's capacitive ts not worth it

• I think its the Same $99 model, with Froyo 2.2. I have bought one from Optus ($99) which has Froyo 2.2 Pre-installed.

• +1

this is NOT the highly anticipated ZTE V9+ (just making sure no one confuses the V2 whatever that is, with the V9+)

• If v2 means Capacitive screen then it is a very good bargain. I got the original one for $99, rooted and mod it, it's a pretty good tab for just casual web surfing and a game tablet for the kids. Capacitive screen would be nice though.

• What is the battery life like on these things?

• +2

It's the old Tablet
http://www.optusbusiness.com.au/page/optus_my_tab

Sorry Op, no bargain, it's $50 more then before!

• +2

Where can you get it for $99 now though?

• Not worth the extra $50 IMO…

• Yeah dearer than last time for the exact same model…nah

• Wasn't worth the $99 I paid either tried to make it half decent but it's just bad sold it on eBay and got $ 125 least I got my money back I'd suggest ppl try one in store before buying it's not much better than that with modded firmwares the screen let's it down

• lol same model and 150? No thanks. Neg!

• +3

If you can't get it for $99 now and $149 is cheaper than others (like cheap China brands)

Why is not a bargain? Don't look back they may not have it for $99 anymore.

Just like I bought Borderlands on Steam for $6 but if they have it now for $8, a lot of peoples may still think it is a bargain.

• +1

People still thought it was a bargain before when it was $139 (this was before it dropped right down to $99). Maybe this price is just a way to keep them being sold without them absolutely flying off the shelves…and if they're not selling, they could lower the price by $5 a week until they find the right price/sale point.

• +2

Yeah but with tech they can't establish a lowest price point, have it sell for months at that price at various retailers at that price and then crank it back up by 50% later.

No worries with a new model but it's against the norm to go "oh we stuffed up this device is more popular than we realised, lets raise the price back up again" - can't do that after so many retailers sold it at the $99 price point.

Anyway there's new model of this along soon with a capacitive screen.

• +3

Can anyone recommend something better for the same price or cheaper?

• +2

If they can't they should not neg it.

• Hey superforever thanks for posting anyway mate, I negged the actual deal but I appreciate that you took the time to list. Cheers.

• I feel like negging just for that comment

We are voting for this deal, not how it compares to some other item.

This item was available for $99 not too long ago - to sell it for $50 more just a little while later is not going to make anyone think it's a deal

• +1

Yeah my point is some peoples may still think it is a bargain if they want one now. They may not want to wait for Optus to drop it again.

• +2

Using that logic - EVERY SINGLE item is a bargain. 1 store for every item in the world has the lowest price for each particular item. Doesn't mean it is a bargain. Comparisions over time is EXACTLY how we determine a bargain or not.

For example;
Last week Tim Tams were $2 a packet at Woolworths.

This week Tim Tams are say, $2.89 at Woolworths. Coles and IGA have them for $3.29. Are those tim tams at $2.89 a bargain? NO. Last week they were only $2!

But I do appreciate you taking the time to post this bargain - I am really hoping they come down to $99 soon. An optus rep said that they are expecting them to be back in stock through the optus.com.au site, but are unsure of exactly when.

• Question for superforever: have you bought one at $149?

Also, how can you expect people who bought one @ $99 consider the new price: $149 as a bargain?

Why do you think Optus failed to clear them out @ $149 before? It was only after the price drop to $99, people rushed to buy them (and it actually took a few days before they were sold out). So… most people already indicated they will only be interested when it is @ $99.

People neg'ed the deal partly to prevent other people from buying one @ $149 and later regret the decision.

Doesn't have 3g though?

• It says it does, johnn -

"Connectivity: Wi-Fi + 3G"

Perhaps they mean that you have to have an external dongle for 3G.

I'm going to ask the seller… $170 for a 10-incher delivered is pretty awesome (as the actress said to the bishop) even if it means having to use a USB 3G dongle; I can't think of anything on the internet that is so urgent that I need to see it before I can get to a shopping centre with free wifi.

If The Lovely was here I would try to whine her into letting me buy it right now, but if I buy it when she's not here she will give me a good talking to… (how does that 'whipped' sound go? Whit-DSSSSSH!)

• Ahh didn't notice that.

Yep, from reports it requires a usb dongle for 3G, which isn't all too bad. Apparently it doesn't work with all dongles though, as noted in this ebay listing

After compatibility testing and certification, the 3G device list (model) include
EVDO list: HUAWEI EC122, ZTE AC2766, ZTE AC580 (recommended), SINCOM SE 189-U, Gemtek W3GUBV 100
WCDMA list: HUAWEI E180, HUAWEI E1750

Damnn, I'd much rather have bought this than my MyTab!

• I already got an e-mail back from the seller - the 3G is built-in, but bluetooth isn't (I have about 4 of those $1 bluetooth dongles in amongst the box full of cables and stuff that every home now has).

Here's the seller's note -

"Dear {my eBay userID},

Hi there, thank you for the interest. Yes it has built in 3G in the Flytouch and for the Bluetooth, you will need a external adapater for this. Thank you so much and looking to hearing from you. Please let me know if you need any other information.

I am actually interested in FlyTouch 3. Anyone knows whether 2.3 Gingerbread is avail for it? How does it compare with the latest gen ZT-180? Hate that ethernet port though — why would anyone want that on a tablet?!

• I want to use a tablet with an ethernet port. We use laptops inside our vending machines and I woull like to convert them to using these tablets instead, much cheaper.

• Whoa that looks too good to be true…

• I just created a post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50794 for the flytouch 3 for $155 shipped on Ebay. We shall have a debate to see if it's a good value or not.

• -1

Seems that people found $170 to be a fair price for a mytab, even when optus were selling at $149?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180683…

• +1

Upon my sam, you're being a bit harsh to neg it, even if it's unwound the recent discount (remember - the $A is 10% lower than 2 weeks ago lol)

For $149 (for the record, that's what we paid - we bought it before the drop to $99) this is a terrific little tab - bluetooth, 3G, GPS, wifi…

I've got French radio, Audible audiobooks, Aldiko e-book reader, a HIIT training timer (and Nike BOOM), and a ForEx platform on mine (and some other stuff too - I forget), and it operates without a hitch.

I connect my bluetooth heart rate monitor to it in the gym, and it stores my pulse data for each workout, second by second… while playing music for me at the same time through my bluetooth headphones.

It is OUTSTANDING for reading the web or an ebook on the dunny (or playing Raging Thunder II - I unlocked, and then won, all levels while on the thunderbox)… or hooking up bluetooth headphones and listening to an audiobook or music.

It accesses the free wifi at restaurants we know, effortlessly. (I rooted it, modded it, and upgraded to the 2.3-like hackROM, too; if you're interested in developing that sort of skill, this low-cost machine gives you a playground that won't break the bank if you brick it).

By next year it will be a dinosaur, and I will have a $200 10" tab for my dunny reading - but for now anyone who negs this is being a tad harsh, in my view.

No, this is not an ad, but credit where it's due, old horse… this is a very good bit of kit at this price.

• Just an old Tab with increase in price!

• To be fair these are pretty good tabs, there's a review on youtube when these where $249 and the guy thinks they're pretty good value, I manged to pick two up at $99 and sell one for $170.

• Why neg? Good tablets, good reviews even when they where $249 and I made a profit? You just jelly?

• +1

They are a very good product and even at this price a definite bargain…
The touch screen is excellent also, better than my other droid device costing 10 times more.

Bang for your buck for an android device this can not be beaten. As asked above, show us a better unit for the money. In other words, shut up or put up!

Battery life on these things in also the best.

• +1

I've got one of these and a similar sized Samsung Galaxy which creams it from every angle.
These are OK (just) as an Android learning device but the resistive screen, limited processor (ARM6 can't play flash) and dull screen are nothing to get too excited about.
They are well made with good battery life but to me are not worth more than $99.
In many ways these are are competent version of what so many of the Chinese generics promised but failed to deliver.
Overall they are running flat chat to be "OK" but have no room for expansion and you'll definitely get over it quite quickly if you have one.
Good for ebooks in the pooper or a wreckable holiday device though.

• I bought one for $99, and put Andriod 2.3.4 on it. Gave it to my 3 yr old son 6 weeks ago filled with kids games.
Very good device for $99, and although he throws it around, not a single scratch on it yet.
Would not have bought it for $1150 though. The Samsung Galaxy TAB wipes the floow with it though, but at the old price it was worth it.

There is no stock of it for $99 so this is a bargain.

• Back to it's old price then? Not a bargain.

• jacked

• Definitely a neg from me as well, because I bought this for $99.

$149 is not a bargain!

BUT, In case anyone wants to upgrade the MyTab to Android v2.3, There are tutorials available on the Whirlpool site.

• This seems to be completely sold out at every store. I rang around 20 different stores including JB Hi-Fi, Clive Peeters, Big W, you name it. Looks like online is the only way to go to grab one before the more expensive, updated version is replaced.

• +1

I got one at $99, and have been having a ball with it. A nice learning curve for android.
The guys I work with, have been keeping an eye out for them since. but none gto be found.
The SGT guys were envious that it came with the 3gb data and ran pretty much what they could run (albeit slower), the Ipad guys liked the 3gb data and the fact that I can throw it into my handbag (referring to its dimensions).
I like the fact that if I brick it, I havent blown much $$.

… and knowing the fun I've had, yep I'd pay the extra $$ for it.

• +1

It's not the best "historical" price but i got one today.i'm going overseas in 3 weeks and wanted a nice present for my brother ;)
For some reason i prefer giving 149$ to HN than buying it from ebay at the same price and knowing that the sellers got it for 99$. Those people are so greedy that none of them has put a "buy it now" price…

• i got it today and i have just found some free time to explore it and activate the included sim card. i was almost sure i will not get any free internet data but look at this beauty http://oi52.tinypic.com/2lb094.jpg
6GB of internet data for one month! That makes this deal even better!of course it's not as good as the 99AUD but the 6GB was a nice surprise!!! ;)

• Does anybody know how to return this device to Optus ?
I got a faulty one where the battery indicator keep increasing even I am not charging it, I tried to call them on several number(such as 1800-505-888 and 1300-300-562) been transfer between several people, I even went to Optus store and none of those help.

• If you have just bought it you can simply return it to the seller! have you tried a factory reset? as soon as i got it i upgraded to cyanogenmod. no problems so far!

• The problem is I bought this online and Optus shop refuse it because of that too.
