[NSW] Pit Boss BBQ Pellets $10 (Was $29.95) @ Bunnings Rouse Hill

Bunnings item page: https://www.bunnings.com.au/pit-boss-competition-blend-bbq-f…

I have never used this brand of pellets, but surely it has to have more taste than the Traeger brand of pellets. For smoking pellets it is VERY cheap. This is usually used in pellet feeding BBQs/Smokers, however can be used with Pellet Smoker Tubes like this one: https://www.barbequesandmore.com.au/a-maze-n-smoker-tube-sta…

I personally like to add a handful of pellets to the charcoal on my kamado, which gives a nice burst of smoke for the first ~30mins.

They had the Apple blend and the "competition" blend. Pellet companies do not use single woods for their pellets, instead they will usually use a "base" wood like Oak and then add flavour woods like apple or mesquite or whatever. Traeger just has oak wood with flavour oils that don't add much flavour.

  • awesome. thanks for the heads up.

  • Anyone seen these on clearance anywhere else?

  • They say lumberjack make the best pellets.

I don't think you're going to get great flavour from pellets irrespective of which brand you get. Yes the flavour will be good and you could add more smoke using a pellet tube, but you don't get the same flavour as when burning hardwood chunks or splits.

This is an excellent deal, hopefully other stores have this price.

    • Oh totally. I find that when using the pellets as fuel, flavour is lacking. I haven't used my Traeger in over 5 years because of this. If I still used my Traeger, I would have just wheeled the whole trolley to the checkout.

I do find if you use the pellets purely for smoke, they do give off good flavour. I typically have a few chunks of mesquite in the kamado with a handful of pellets sprinkled everywhere. The pellets smoke quickly, while the chunks take a while to start smoking but last much longer. Most smoke is absorbed in the first ~30mins and thats where the pellets do well.

  • Thanks op.
    Grabbed 5. Still plenty left.

  • Price matched @ Bunnings Rothwell… thanks! These go well with the pit boss vertical smoker!

  • Will head there tomorrow. Thanks Mod: Removed Personal Information!
