  • How do these compare to the Edifers that are always on here?

    • +3

They are made for different purposes.
These are Pro-Audio equipment for Studio use & you will need to purchase additional components (Cables, Pre-amp / Audio interface, Bluetooth receiver etc) in order for them to have the same function as the Edifier's which have everything built-in & come with everything you need in-the-box.

And having had both all purchased & setup, ease of use is much better on the Edifier's.
The ability to switch on/off & switch inputs with remote etc.

      • Appreciate the response!

        Thanks

In my opinion the comparable Edifier model would be the S2000Pro (which was $352 Delivered @ Amazon AU during Black Friday / Currently $429 @ Edifier AU ).

And the S3000Pro (Previous best deal was $596 + Delivery @ be-start eBay / Currently $640 @ Edifier AU ) would likely perform even better with 120w RMS of power behind each of its 6.5-inch woofers.

Both Edifier Pro series speakers are also reported to have zero hiss.

I always recommend Edifier to others since they really are the best performance + features / price ratio at the moment.
The JBL LSR305P Pair plus all other components required of decent quality would likely be over $600, so at this point the S3000Pro is an easy recommendation & a better designed all-in-one product.
Sound can be subjective so some may still prefer going through other complicated setups, but for the majority I recommend Edifier.

      • Excellent response (lol)

  • This Forum needs more educated and informative responses like this….

Just for the sake of another perspective, I have both Edifier and LSR305 and no you don't need all the gear just to get them running. You can just get a cable that converts 6.3mm to 3.5mm and plug it straight to a source. That set me back about $10 bucks and I was ready to go. Yes you do miss the remote on the Edifier which is quite significant. Every time you want to turn on/off your JBLs, you gotta reach behind the back and flick the switch for EACH speaker. + JBL are missing Bluetooth unless your source is Bluetooth enabled.

margejsimpson is right in recommending the edifier for the majority as they are much easier to use.

However, if you know what type of sound you prefer or perhaps what sound you don't like or are sensitive to (e.g sibilance), then better to do research to find out how the Edifier sounds VS the JBLs.

    • Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Regarding sibilance a recent comment by a ozb user confirmed the S2000Pro are able to minimise sibilance very well.

I assume you mean a "3.5mm to 2x TRS (6.3mm) cable" like this one.

While yes it will technically work (I imagine you would plug it directly into a PC or Smart-phone / DAP).
I would recommend against this kind of "adapter" cable as they present the risk of sending a damaging signal (buzzing / popping) to the Studio Monitors (either through plugging it in/out while the Monitors are powered-on, or through interference caused by poor connection).

In the end though, the JBL LSR305P Pair + $10 adapter cable ($409 total) still simply has a lot less functionality than the Edifier S2000Pro (Currently $429).
While some may prefer the sound of other setups, I think the S2000Pro is at least 90% there in terms of sound quality, and has the options of 4 DSP Modes & Tone-controls (Treble / Bass) to customize the sound further to ones personal taste.
