  • How much was it last time?

    • +1

      I don't care. Last time I wasn't desperate for stocking-stuffer gift ideas. ;-) I am today.

      ORDERED! Thank, OP.

      • ordered, better to buy from bunnings. I need it for paint work now.

        • Bunnings does not support my desire to be lazy and have it land on my doorstep by Christmas Eve.

  • +9

Be wary as I received near expired P2 masks (0-3 months before expiry).

    • +7

keep in mind the expiry doesnt really affect the performance of the filter material itself (if stored properly and not in original packaging), however, any rubber components and elastics can be compromised. That being said the mask uses a rubber seal for the exhalation vent and will degrade over time.

      • +2

Rubber seal less of an issue if it isn't super expired, it's more that the rubber ear straps will snap when you put em on.

    • +2

Same, half of my order was expiring this month, the other half February expiry.

    • +2

Can confirm my lot has an "expiry" of 2020/03, which means they were manufactured in 2017/03.

      • +1

Same here, my ones are also marked as expiring in 2020/03.

    • Where's the expiry date on these?

      • emboss stamped on the box, really tiny so need to look closely

        • On the bottom? Am i blind?

          • @Ruptur3: no, on the side. There's expiry date text with a hourglass sign. Look nearby that text

    • +1

Same happened to me. Expiry March 2020. I highly recommend you contact them via chat. I got a full refund, took only about 3 minutes.

Free masks :-) And the odds are they were stored in a temperature controlled warehouse, so are as good as new. That expiry date certainly assumes worst case storage conditions, i.e. tin shed that heats up to 50 degrees frequently…

  • +26

Just a note for Sydney-dwellers, only P2 or N95-rated masks can filter out a meaningful level of air pollution and help reduce the respiratory impact from bushfire smoke, provided you maintain an airtight seal on your face at all times while outdoors (guys with beards are out of luck, as are people with oddly-shaped skulls/faces that can't actually seal the mask properly).

Those surgical masks worn by Asian tourists do absolutely nothing, on the other hand.

    • +21

I was under the impression those masks were to stop other people catching what they have!

      • +4

Or to stop them catching whatever you may have

      • -1

Yes, those masks are designed to capture what you breath out, not effective at all for airborne particles you breathe in.

        • +5

How can they be effective obit for the germs you breath out and not the germs other people breath out that you breath in? Why not just buy two masks and wear one of them inside out, to get protection in both directions.

        • They help heaps for dust when someone is vaccuming, for me. I don't get the runny nose, sneezing, itchy throat etc symptoms. Maybe like 10% when I use these. It's not just a one way fabric haha.

      • Gotta catch 'em all!

    • +23

I thought the surgical masks worn by Asian tourists are designed to stop you from catching a disease off them (like a cold or whatever). They're just being super polite.

      • -2

Pretty sure that's a Japanese reasoning. I believe the Chinese think it's some sort of device to help with maintaining qi.

    • -5

Those surgical masks worn by Asian tourists …

only Asians wore those surgical masks?

      • +9

They're stereotypically associated with East Asian and Southeast Asian countries, especially since the 2002 SARS outbreak and the 2006 bird flu panic.

      • +2
        1. It's "only Asians wear" - "worn" was used in the present perfect tense.

        2. He didn't imply that only Asians wear them. It is, however, Asians most often wearing them, which is why the association exists. And before someone asks, no that's not racist.

    • +6

The asian masks are for cctv

      • -3

Possibly some wear them for that reason, but plenty of non-Chinese in Southeast Asian countries where they don't have such an omnipresent surveillance state are still big fans of surgical masks, and that's more to do with the perceived protection against air pollution.

      • +3

pretty sure the masks arent Asian nor are they for CCTV.

        • +1

Yeah i loled at that cctv comment

          • -1

@Jared17: Some people want to avoid the persistent surveillance by the state and the world's largest corporations, such as Google and Amazon, which now uses facial recognition meaning you are tracked wherever you go.

            • -2

@Diji1: Google and Amazon are not communist and they don't do it to crush dissent and nor do they run internment camps. They do it to improve services and also for targeted ads etc and it 's all for monetary gains.

            • +1

@Diji1: Yeah I know that. Believe me with exception of hk rioters dressed like ISIS, most people dont wear this in Asian countries to avoid surveillance. Those that do are criminals or going yo do some shady stuff. People in Asia wear it for health and hygiene reasons. They hyperbole in the west is getting crazy.

      • Nah, that's a burka. No racism intended.

    • "an airtight seal on your face at all time" , once only use also. I use to wear mask like these around asbestos and they are once only use, make a tight seal and then leave it on until you are done

    • They definitely do nothing if on the other hand.

    • What about 2.5?

      • +1

        P2 is smaller than P2.5

Also better than those cheapo ebay "PM2.5" masks which probably aren't high enough quality to do anything.

  • Darn my prime expired two days ago

  • +2

I used it today and I can breathe much better when I walking down in the City. Air Quality Index today is 3 times the Hazardous level.

  • +13

Or just put your money towards a flight to Hawaii

    • +12

      Good idea Scott!

    • +2

Just make sure you fly out yesterday, and don't come back until Feb.

  • +3

send one PM of Aus so he remembers what people are going thru in QLD and NSW

    • +3

Why would a man who brought a piece of coal to parliament care about your mask gestures or protests? His party has way more ties to coal and other evil companies than you realise.

I'm sure he will retire to a healthy dome for the rich while we peasants suffer outside with our protests.

  • The city OfficeWorks are out of stock but some nearby suburbs have these: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/prochoice-…

    • hmmm would they price match a smaller pack to the big pack ?

      • Officeworks seem to have "similar" products that look the same but have different product names and ID that are unique. They could argue that its not the same product. Its at your own risk and time.

    • Similar price at Bunnings too

  • +2

Good timing,I am going back to Hong Kong and China in 2 weeks hope this mask can block the China polluted air and Tear Gas in Hong Kong

    • +2

      Your eyes, bru

      • Not sure why it had been down voted, but I used N95 last year when I was in China which helps a lot of my breathing (was keep coughing without wearing mask)

Just hope this mask has the same filter grade as N95

        • +3

I didn't downvote you. It's probably immature CCP nationalists. Let me counter their downvotes.

          • -1

            @orangetrain: Thanks mate 👍

    • protesters in Hong Kong use full-on face mask respirators 6100 and filters like 60926, this is probably not going to be much help

      • I certainly not going to be a protestor
But the excessive used of tear gas has spread the bad shell through wind

Hope the mask can block a bit
(Probably need an eye mask too if the tear gas density is too high)

  • +1

    Bought 5 packs, thanks

    • I hope you don't need 100 masks in 3 months.

      • 3 months is 90 days, so it's not unreasonable. P2 masks are single use.

        • I'm a commercial builder. I go through these like water and Bunnings is a ripoff

        • I dont seee how they can be only 1 single use, other than if they get wet i hear.

  • +1

I always found the folding ones a much better fit, important especially when drilling and sanding asbestos.

That last part is a joke, please don't ever drill or sand asbestos unless you are already over 70 and clean up after yourself really well.

  • These kind of masks don't work if you have a beard or feel air leaking out through edges. It needs to be a tight fit.

Sadly, can't find any good places to test mask fits.

    • I think usually they’re cheap enough though that you can probably burn through them but you’re right, it’s a bit of luck getting ones which fit well.

      • +1

What if you seal the mask with duct tape on your face? Asking for a friend

        • Only one way for your friend to find out :)

  • I got mine from the last deal a few days ago and have been impressed with the fit. I’ve bought N95 masks before when I lived in Singapore and they never felt snug on my face.

  • Thanks OP……hope these are not close to expiry like previous deal, as mentioned above.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhy9qkD5Adg
This Air quality monitor (which you can buy for $150 on Amazon) shows just how bad fires pollute the air. Guy in video is holding air monitor near bushfire (20,000+ particles), then as he goes inside into his air filtered bedroom it drops to 20 particles. (Normal outside air is usually 400-500.

    • That guy has got so many air filter devices going that he is essentially at technology 'clean room' levels, but in a domestic residential apartment. Sounds like a server room or data centre too.

I get the idea of how bad it is outside when there are heavy levels of smoke and haze pollution, but he seems to have gone overkill otherwise.

  • I have asthma, and these P2 masks do help.

  • +2

Now the Chinese can laugh at us.

    • -3

      whys that?

      • -2

They laugh at you regardless anyway. Because you humiliate them first

Please keep saying Aus got clean air. Totally bs

        • comon bruh, what did i ever do to the chinese? why all the hatred? ps the air down at bondi is beautiful. come and see for yourself

        • Please keep saying Aus got clean air. Totally bs

You CCP Nationalists are so full of it, I think your own personal pollution scores might actually be higher than China's.

https://aqicn.org/map/australia/ (National AQI Average, excluding the temporary situation in Sydney: 40)

https://aqicn.org/map/china/ (National AQI Average: 482; well above 300 which is considered hazardous)

Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world (even better than Antarctica), followed closely by Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia.

Air pollution kills over a million Chinese annually.

          Stop peddling your piss-weak propaganda.

          Because you humiliate them first

No, China manages to repeatedly humiliate and embarrass itself on the world's stage without anyone else's involvement, but it's quite easy to ridicule nonetheless when most China apologists are as hysterical as yourself in response to criticism, and because it's the only way to deal with the world's most tyrannical, hypocritical and down-right inhuman regime, that genuinely believes it has some divine mandate to enslave the rest of the world.

How else do you want us to treat Winnie Pooh-stan? Seriously?
Maybe when they stop raping the Third World of all of their natural resources via their neo-colonialist empire, harvesting organs from political prisoners to sell on the black market, putting people in "re-education camps" for being born into the wrong ethnic group, executing more people per year than every other country combined, conditioning its citizens to accept living like colonial-era American slaves and being the worst polluter in the world.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one more box.

  • These are likely to be 3 months from expiry, bear that in mind

  • Thanks OP! Missed out on the last deal so happy with two packets for $30.

Hopefully it doesn’t expire in 3 months?

  • Would these be suitable for handling pink batts?

  • i bought 2 pack last time, 1 is expired about 2-3 months, and another one is about 1 year left. so, they are mixed, and see how lucky are you

    • seems like good chance the old ones have run out then

    • Edit: Found it! Its actually next to the yyyy/mm on the side of the box( i had to get a magnifying glass to see it as its one of those indented print ones)

Where do you find the expiry date, are they the ones printed on the bottom of the box? i just received mine today and the numbers on the bottom are (box 1 170612 1540649) and on (box 2 170518 1540194). i bought 2 packs.. On the side of the box it says expiry is yyyy/mm+3yrs which doesnt match up with the printed numbers on the bottom.

  • +2

    just went back to 30.38

  • Damn missed out again

  • Just received my two boxes worth.

One has expiry 2020/07 and the other has 2019/12.

Will be requesting refund on one of the boxes.
