Nintendo are dropping the price to $250. This is a bargain.

    • -3

      drop to $170 oversea

      • +5

you are gonna have problems with warranty and the wall charger pin shape :) good luck with $29 savings

      • +12

        $170 US + standard Australian rourting = $250 AUD

        • +5

plus you won't be able to play 3DS games sold in Australia,

        • +4

What's the story with the 3DS games and regions?

        • +7

That's a good thing, games cost too much in Australia. Much cheaper to import.

    • -1

This is no bargain when everywhere is similar in price. It is a general price drop only.

  • +1

I think it's a good deal don't think I will get one though. Does it include the free games like the eb and game deals or bare console?

    • +3

      Nah mate.. Just says Console..

  • -1

is there a flash card out for 3D games yet ? Reason I sold mine a couple of weeks after launch was because no games.

    • -6

yea the M3i Zero can do that

      • +4

No it can't, none can do 3DS games yet.

    • +18

      buy some games

  • +2

Nice. Where did you see this? Anyone know if EB Games or GAME will be matching the deal

    • +2

Only if a local Dick Smith has it in stock. And good luck finding a Dick Smith that'll have any in stock after the first hour of being open.

Bringing in a catalogue helps, but they'll have to call up anyway to see stock levels, so it's not essential.

      • JBHIFI is selling for $198 isn't it?

  • +1

    EB will

    • You're able to confirm that? Will probably need to show them a catalogue - do we know if this deal is in DSEs catalogue?

  • +6

Pretty annoyed I paid $325 for my console + zelda….

    Hardly touched it since

    • +3

      Same here. =_=

    • +20

Make sure you connect your 3DS to the eShop by 2pm today (could even be later today, not sure).
Those who connect their 3DS by this deadline will be part of the Ambassador Program which entitles you to 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games.
These are not physical, but rather virtual copies, which will be made available soon.

Nintendo's way of saying, 'yeah, thanks for paying a premium, we are sorry, have some games we already made money on 25 years ago' =)

      • +1

        Thanks for the information mate.
here is the official message from Nintendo.

        http://www.nintendo.com/corp/nintendo3ds/news/

Actually, we've already paid for those 20 old games regarding to the price dropping. But better than nothing.

      • +1

Worth noting, the NES games will all get upgraded 3D Widescreen versions which will also be free.

    • +4

Why do people get annoyed when prices drop? Prices for stuff always drops. Only thing that matters is whether it was worth it to you for the price you paid at the time you bought it, and clearly it was given you bought it.

      • +3

Because Nintendo are like Apple and don't usually drop prices. 3DS has only been released for 4 months.

        • +2

Yeah, the message I got on my 3DS said: ' There have been times in the past when we, Nintendo, have marked down the prices for our Video Game consoles a certain amount to further accelerate adoption of the hardware, but never in Nintendo's history have we dropped a systems trade price so significantly less than six months after launch'.

        • +1

So? Doesn't matter whether they drop the price or not. Either it was worth $300 (or whatever you paid at launch) or it wasn't. What happens now shouldn't affect that decision.

        • Nintendo are like Apple and don't usually drop prices? wow, someone has been feeding off the shit that ebgames feed them. It's people like yourself that keep the price of gaming so high in Australia because you think that the prices are actually set by nintendo.

    • -1

posi vote for you :-( you are eligible to download 20 games from nintendo, this is positive side !

    • Good things come to those that wait…and I'm still gonna keep on waiting.

      • -3

If it hits $100 soon I might bat an eyelid.

  • Hmm I paid $278 on a DSE pre-order before launch and thought that was a good deal.

Will be getting a second one for $199 as the $278 was for my daughter and my son loves it too…

  • +9

At this price it is very tempting, but I personally won't be buying it until there is a decent software library. It's not like the price on these things will go up!

    • My thoughts exactly. May go back up to ~$250 when DSE finish their sale, but by the time there are games (plural) worth playing the standard price should be down around the $200 mark.

That, or there will be a new version, probably a 3DS lite or 3DS XL or similar which will drive the original down further or just make the newer version more attractive to me.

    • +1

Now's as good a time as any to pick one up. Zelda's out and coming out very soon are Lylat Wars, Mario Kart, Mario 3DS, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario and Kid Icarus.

When it comes to the 3DS, when it rains, it pours.

      • +1

        Don't forget pilotwings resort

        • Short game. If game rental was available, you'd rent that game and not buy it.

      • +1

Uhm…. you just named a list of all the games I already beat 10 years ago. Nostalgia aside, that doesn't sound very exciting.

  • +3

BUGGER! I just bought DSiXL for $180 at Myers 2 weeks ago!

    • +4

      Yours bigger! lol

  • +2

Paid $299 for mine under 3 weeks ago, then heard about this.
    Oh well, shed happens.

Still enjoying Zelda, and SUPER keen for the new Mario games.

  • +1

Is the DSE price a sale only or a permanent price drop?

Pity the 3DS doesnt have any games. Except Zelda (but i dont like Zelda lol)

    • Price drop is to $250, so this is a sale that DSE is having.

    • You gotta have a look a the E3 trailers on the 3DS's eShop, there are many great games coming up.
(but yeah I see what you mean.)

  • Just called local DSE $349 but they told me there was a sale starting 2moro.

I also asked about getting it for that price today they said couldn't do it lol.

Anyone successful getting it for $199 today???

    • +1

Nintendo announced that the price drop will start on 12-Aug. So I think they may not start the promotion until tomorrow.

  • +3

glad i sold my dse preorder I paid 278 for for 275 on ebay
too many faults with design ie low battery life poor res camera
    screen scratching from top bezel
    will wait for revision 2
    good deal though

    • +1

yes screen scratching a was a major pain. If you don't use screen protectors with this current design, the 3D screen gets scratched from the bottom screen. Very bad design flaw.

      • -1

It's not actually scratching, they're just due to the upper 'lip' of the bottom screen leaving a mark on the top, you can just rub it off, or keep a cloth in between.

        • Kinda like how laptops can leave keyboard marks on the screen.

        • Yeah, I've not had any scratching…

        • It's scratching. I carry mine around a lot, and you can't rub it off anymore. It's very tiny minuscule scratches that form a big massive line. T__T

        • it does scratch!

  • Can this play older DS Lite games?

    • +2

      Yes

    • +1

Yes, sure can. It can play ANY Nintendo DS games out on the market.

  • +1

I've never owned a hand-held and have been putting it off for a long time. Though, for about a month now, Ocarina of Time 3D has had me seriously considering paying $400 just to play that one game…

    • +6

      why $400??

on second thoughts gimme $400 and I can make it happen for you

    • +1

Now that its $250, do it!
Theres some awesome games coming out, if you're a fan of Mario etc.

      • and if you're not a fan of mario then any nintendo system is the wrong system for you as the 'mario stable' makes up over 50% of non-shovelware (plus another 25% of the shovelware)!

  • Great find!!! Looking forward to buying it for my son's birthday.

I can't seem to find the 3DS (at today's price) at their online store, all I see is games, accessory packs etc.

Would a kind soul post a direct link?

  • The website is playing up terribly, sorry.

  • Sorry mate can't scan the paper for you as im at work..
Goto http://dailytel.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx where you can view the epaper and its on page 26…
I think you can sign up for a trial version just for a day free of charge..

  • Just called a bunch of JBHifi's. They wont price match until tomorrow as they have orders from Nintendo to not discount before the 12th……STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +1

It's all stores - EB, JB, DSE. Price drop doesn't occur until 12/08.

  • +5

3DS never worth $325 to begin with. Concept is nice, but not enough games to go with.

I will stick with my trusty NDS thanks. Its been good for last 5 years, and still strong.

Nintendo is dying due to iPhone/iPad games, much cheaper then their cartridges, no wonder why people want to pirate.

Sure the games are not as comprehensive, but people don't care when they pay $1-$3 for a game compare to $30 on 3DS

    • +9

Why do people think this is still a valid reason? Yes, phone games are good for certain people, but there's a huge difference between a 3DS game like Zelda or Mario Kart and a $1 mobile game with no physical controls. This sort of input is only really good for physics/puzzle/tower defence genres.

Comparing a $199 Nintendo to a $600+ iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch is like apples and oranges. How many 12 year olds have an iPhone on contract? Or a tablet computer?

If Nintendo has any fault, it's that their downloadable prices are insane. $9 for old VC titles and $7 for the same mobile game that's available on IOS for $3. Fortunately for them, this is an easy fix.

    • I cant begin to say how far off you are off with the ridiculous comment that nintendo is dying due to iphone/ipad games.

They are two completely different markets in their own right and both are more profitable than ever.

  • +1

Snipe that deal. Also look out for PS3 pricefall soon.

  • -4

can we play homebrew games on this one ?

  • -5

Is home brew coming soon? If it is, can we just install some software rathe than buying a flash card? 3DS seems like old NDS but with 3D…

    • 3DS has not been hacked yet so no.

Only select Flash cards work with it so you can play your homebrew/DS backups.

  • +2

    lol, that was quick.

Give me some more games, make it $150, and then we'll talk.

    • +7

      Lies

    • +4

      Too much weed… you pressed a 1 instead of a 2.

  • +2

Might as well grab one of the GF.

  • +2

I work at DSE in Brisbane, was told to change pricing today. 10 Minutes later was told to take them down until tomorrow.

    Prices are at $199 on these two products;
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG4271/nds-3ds-aqua-blue
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG4272/nds-3ds-cosmos-black

    Enjoy :)

    • Im coming into DSE Brisbane tomorrow. Do you have many.

Also do you know if you are doing any bundles like below??? I really want Zelda

  • +3

GAME have the 3DS + zelda bundle for $254. Pricematch at one of those AMEX participating outlets for the $50 bucks redemption……
    :)

  • +1

JBHiFi are now $1 cheaper, let the price wars begin!

  • -8

It's true I pre-ordered it, heard of pre order? It was $199+FREE game+Free shipping, and woolworths discount staff DSE, that is no lie my friend :)

    • not quite, discount is 5% so if the pre-order was $199 that'd be around $189.

    • +1

preorder was 299 with free game stop bsing

  • got it $199 pricematched at harvey norman about 30 min ago. 20 useless games i will never play for me! (minus zelda of course)

    • Which HN did you go to?

PS: Did you know you had till 2pm yesterday to sign in to eshop to register your 20 free games?

  • JB have marked down 3DS to $198 until COB Sunday 14/8. I work there and most stores should be pretty well stocked, though I imagine demand will be high. Will also have a bundle that includes Sims 3 and accessory pack for $249. I would get in quick if you're at all interested as word is sure to spread and once Monday rolls around, you won't get one at the $198 price, assuming anyone still has any left by then.

  • +2

For those who can't wait until morning this will be up online at midnight. Interesting on the HN price match. Nintendo embargoed the price drop until the 12th so that's why we couldnt start today! :)

    • Clock ticking, time counting lol 55mins to go… bought $250 wish gift card from Big W today via AMX, it is time to spending it !

    • The rep's here but WHERE'S OUR WHEEL!!!

  • Did OBers crash DSE website?

    Its down for maintenance!

For those who arent sure about stock, you check stock online and then reserve it… You can then collect it from the store..
    No advance payment required.

I've used the service twice so far….. They notify you via email/sms when its ready for pickup… usually within a few minutes.

    • It works for me but 3DS consoles arn't listed.

    • +1

No there was an issue a while ago where a maintenance page had a 3 month expiry, so basically if you'd happened upon that page at one point, your web browser will deliver you the cached page. The IT guy responsible is now packed safely in a shipping container.

      Press 'CTRL+R' to refresh, or 'CTRL+F5', or 'Command-R' :)

      • I could not find the 3DS console either despite refresh. Look like another IT guy to be package up soon.
