  • Still no AppleTV app right?

    • Correct…

      • +19

It’s like Foxtel wants to fail. Which is fine by me.

        • +6

Yup - who knew that a streaming service would need to be on, you know, streaming platforms. Clearly not the strategic geniuses at Foxtel!

        • +9

Since when is Apple TV a must? I have it and it really is nothing special

            • +18

@PainToad: Yes, all of them are on my nvidia shield afaik

              • +4

@Superstar15: And Foxtel now. Can apple TV even say that?… Oh that's right…

              • +1

@Superstar15: I think the state of streaming is still a bit of a mess. I've got all of the bloody things. NVIDIA doesn't have Optus sport (can do a shit hacky solution) apple TV doesn't have Foxtel and Telstra TV is missing loads (even though the Roku hardware has some of the apps available in US)

It's getting better. But will be nice when we get to maturity like IOS vs Android where the apps are just available on both and any arguments now are just semantics by fanboys.

            • -1

@PainToad: Sorry I thought you meant the subscription service.

I don’t care about media boxes, I have an htpc connected to my tv, I won’t rely on ANY company for my media needs.

          • -6

@nikoris: Here we go.. an android person bashing the millions of apple users.

            Yawn.

            • -1

              @tightm8: You are ‘smart’

              I’m an iPhone user

    • +2

      Still no AppleTV app right?

It works fine on the TelstraTV.

  • +12

They're dreaming if they think it's worth $25 a month with ads.

    • +8

The people stupid enough to pay for something with ads, are the same exact people advertisers want to talk to

      • -8

You do realise that 100% ad free streaming platforms is something that won't last, right? When all the dust is settled from the 'streaming wars'and the revenue generated from subscription plateaus, the share holders/owners of these billion dollar companies will need new sources of revenue. When the big streaming companies with all the 'must watch properties' start serving ads, people will first complain, then they will get used to it and it'll become the norm.

        • Isn't it more so every Tom dick and Harry are buying up big titles in the hopes the masses flock to their service, Somethings going to break soon enough when people refuse to have more than a couple services at a time.

        • Some people will, some wont. Piracy is already on the rise again, with the advent of Plex people can have their own streaming service for free.

      • Dumb comment. Just because Foxtel doesn't suit your situation doesn't make all users stupid. I personally enjoy channel flicking and being fed content rather than endlessly scrolling and not liking what I end up on. Considering I only originally got it for sport and split the cost between another I think it's good value.

    • +4

Completely agree. Remember when they launched? They advertised that it was ad free since you were paying.

Foxtel can't survive as a business if it doesn't change.

They are the Gerry Harvey of pay TV.

    • -4

      $25 a month with ads.

The don't show ads during the shows.

      • +1

That do for most channels show them during shows. Only a few channels are ad free during shows

        • Their normal "live" channels (Fox8, etc) have ads in between episodes, but their on-demand content doesn't have ads during shows ever from my ~year of using Foxtel Now.

  • +7

    Yeah, nah

  • +3

In the last few weeks the Foxtel Now app has been made available in the Play Store on the Vodafone TV and 2019 Nvidia Shield (and can still be sideloaded on all other Android TV boxes).

    • +1

I saw it's on LG WebOS too now.

      • Yeah, and Samsung Tizen as well.

  • Is this Foxtel ie. Watch what they say to watch or like iView?

    • Both. You get access to live tv channels and on demand content.

  • Is anyone else receiving an error message when clicking the affiliated link?

    • Oops… Sorry, that promo code is not applicable for existing customers.

      • Weird….I'd be a new one.

  • Well it's comforting to know that the "cancel subscription" option is grayed out in my account settings. I guess I'll have to wait until the second month to cancel the sub and not pay anything?

Thanks OP. Will setup a reminder.

    • +1

I thought that too, but the option appeared available for me about half hour/hour after you sign up.
Only thing is when you finally click to cancel, it comes up saying you lose the 2 months free instantly, so you'll need to remember to cancel before the 2 months are up anyway to avoid being charged.

      • +2

So on the 14th of February then hey?

Guess I should set a few reminders. Foxtel will never get my money!

  • +2

Perfect, looking forward to watching Mr inbetween!

  • +6

    Confirmed working, thanks!

I signed up with an empty prepaid visa!!!

  • What is determined new sign up? New email address and new credit card? Just cancel from ww offer.

  • +1

Still no xbox one compatibility :(

Watch on your TV using one of the following: Telstra TV, PS4, Sony Android TV, LG or Samsung Smart TV, Foxtel Now Box or casting / airplay.

    • +3

Yeah my Samsung tv has foxtel Play which is a different subscription service to Foxtel now so dumb 🤦‍♂️

      • Pretty sure Foxtel Play was just the old name for Foxtel Now. Might just be that you need to update the app on your TV? Foxtel Go is the other one that allows you to watch on the go if you have an existing cable Foxtel subscription.

        • Foxtel Play is the same as Foxtel Now - basically (and it's Foxtel so of course it's really stupid) they decided to re-brand Foxtel Play as Foxtel Now, and they set about making new apps so that the service could stream in semi-HD (720p) instead of the SD it used to be limited to. But for the platforms they weren't prepared to bother making apps for, the "legacy" Foxtel Play app still works - just limited to SD.

In a world where new streaming services launch on every major platform it's pretty amazing how rubbish Foxtel is at getting apps done for its streaming service. But then, rumour has it the whole thing's being replaced by a new streaming service run by the Kayo team sometime in the first half of 2020…

    • Depends on what app is the one for this solution:
      https://community.foxtel.com.au/t5/Foxtel-GO-Knowledge-Base/…

Sign up page says to use Foxtel Go, but the page above says to use Foxtel Now.

  • They will probs try to charge on the 2nd free month like the last foxtel 2 month promotion

  • +1

    not working for me…

"Service Unavailable - Zero Sized Object"

  • -1

Has anyone been able to successfully cancel the free subscription and keep the two months after signing up?

    • That's what I would want to do as well.

  • Anyway to get foxtel go to work on a tv?

  • Any offline capability on the iPad?

And is this Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go, Foxtel Play or something else?

And this makes it all no clearer:
    https://community.foxtel.com.au/t5/Foxtel-GO-Knowledge-Base/…

And if this is Foxtel Now (sorry missed the title), it says in the device support to use Foxtel Go on the iOS device but the link above says to use the Foxtel Go app on iOS.

    What a confused strategy!

  • Do they still make you get all the other packages before you can get Doco’s?

  • Signed up, mostly junk unfortunately. Gonna set a 3 day warning on my calender to cancel.

  • Does anyone have experience cancelling Foxtel subscription in the past? Can you just cancel online or do you have to call in? I have been told they make it painfully impossible to cancel.

  • Be careful. I was on the WW 2 month free deal and Foxtel charged me $25.

  • +1

I'm sure some d#@#head senior executive at Foxtel who's rusted on there has a point of view that Apple is a competitor and they're going to make a streaming app for Apple over his dead body. Meanwhile, all the other streaming networks eat Foxtel for dinner…

  • Does this pack (essentials pack) include the shows Succession or Silicon Valley? Tried searching online for a list of TV shows in each Foxtel pack but found very little info.

    • +1

Yes you can watch both of these shows with the essentials pack

  • +1

Signed up and redeemed this offer, even though in the registration page it says 2 months free and will only be charged after that, once all submitted, my credit card is charged immediately. Queried through live chat and was told no offer or code can be seen in my account.

Now have to wait for their online support team to investigate and get back to me.

  • +2

Says code is invalid for me

  • 'Sorry, promo code is invalid. Please try another code'
