Ouffer [SYD CBD]: $35 for a Bike Service

110

Bike service at MC cyclery (Sydney CBD store only): "including Safety Check & Inspection, Chain & Cassette Degrease & Wash, Chain & Cables Lubrication, Gear, Brake & Hub Adjustment + More!"

Usual caveats apply with store trying to overcharge for parts etc, but I think MC cyclery is a reliable cycle store. You will not get a service cheaper… I think the cheapest ones start at about $60.

Maybe good for those of you that bought $250 bigw bikes but don't want to fork out 80-100 for a service :)

  • Pushbike Factory in Campbelltown charge $25..

    • That is very cheap.

  • Any cheap place around Melbourne?

    • Bike Now @ 100 Park Street, South Melbourne charged me > $100 before parts for a "tune up". Bleh.

  • I usually go to the Anaconda. Would love to know a cheaper alternative around Surry hills, Sydney CBD area.

    • Pretty sure Anaconda is still more expensive than this $35 deal - I thought they charged $45. Just buy a few of these vouchers and you'll be set for a while.

I've used MC Cyclery from time to time (and bought my bike there) and they're a solid shop - mainly for changing my tyre during the day when I get a flat in the morning commute. I'm guessing they're doing this deal because competition in the CBD is pretty tight (by that I mean the other two bike stores are really well established over a period of time).

mc cyclery in cbd only opened a few months ago.

        • +1

I know…? I mean Clarence St Cyclery and CBD Bike Depot have been around for ages.

      • Omigosh. I've never had someone change a tyre for me. I didn't realize that it could cost a pretty penny! wow.

      • Just buy a few of these vouchers and you'll be set for a while.

        NOTE

        Expires on 5 November 2011

        • you can only buy 2 as well… one for yourself and one as a gift…

      • Thanks for suggestion. I just went to anaconda yesterday. So, wont really be needing a service until November 2011 as this vouchers expires at that time.

  • Last time I had my bike serviced it was $160 + parts. Most of it was a flush of the hydraulic brake lines. I nearly fell over when I got the bill

    • Same thing with cars and anything else that needs fixing… :(

    • hydaulic brakes? top of the line mountain bike was it?

Im a bit puzzled that this kind of stuff isnt just done by people at home, basically just buy a can of grease, lob some on the gears. Spin the wheels a bit. Lube done. (you can degrase beforehand if it looks too dirty)

Check the brakes, make sure its straight and tighten if need be.
Same with the gears if its slipping.

Done - 15mins max, Should be good enough to get you to work - maybe not if you're in a competition.

    • im surprised they just went ahead with a brake bleed without even asking you behorehand, that doesnt sound right to me !

  • this deal is Amazing !

couple weeks back, they had a $39 deal on groupon, and i thought that was good !

this $35 service entitles you to their normal service with a RRP of $99

the guys there are GREAT !

my bike was well looked after and would highly recommend it to anyone

only downside is their location, although CBD might be convenient to walk into…..its a different story trying to transport a bike to the store
not parking is avaalibl outside (all loading zones, so if you have a van, then you could get away with it)

i had to resort to parking in world square and riding up
